Ok guys, I'm a HUGE fan of WDW but thanks to Sky me and DH are heading to DLP (for our first time) this October -- (looking forward to seeing the park dressed for Halloween), staying at the Dream Castle.
Now I'm a big wuss for rides and the not knowing what to expect so chicken out on LOADS and wondered if you guys could please tell me about a few at DLP.
My concerns are for the following rides as I don't like going backwards (Expedition Everest in WDW made me feel very queasy), spinning rides such as Men in Black at Universal Studios made me feel queasy and I'm not a big fan of loops and inversion roller coasters SO with that what can people tell me about the following rides:
- Star Tours
- Indiana Jones
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Crushes Coaster
- RC Racer
- Buzz Lightyear
- Aerosmith Rock n Roller Coaster
I'm definately doing Tower of Terror, Big Thunder Mountain, Phantom Manor and TSY Parachute Drop.
If there's any other rides I've missed that you guys can recommend that would be great!
Hiya
I understand where you are coming from. Half the time it is the fear that stops you riding, the actual experience is often not as bad...but that is blown out of the water when you have a bad experience on something you had expected to be a walk in the park. So lets see if between us all, we can help... These are my personal opinions, everyone might disagree.
Star Tours - have you been on the one at MGM? It is very similar. It is a simulator and I personally do feel a bit queasy on it. Its very well done, so sometimes I make the effort.
Indiana Jones - it does have a loop in it and it goes very fast. Sometimes my ears hurt on it because the height I happen to be at is right where the head rest hard bits are, so when you go round the corners your head can hit the side. I'm not fond of it for that reason.
Pirates - its a boat ride like Its a small world, no lap bars and no restraints of any kind. You go up a steep lift hill, which makes you think you're going to go dropping off the end but you don't - you only slide down a few feet, to a different level of the ride. Then you float through more scenes and then approach a dark hole/entrance to a tunnel, and thats when you drop a little more. I wouldn't call it a drop - my very chicken 5 year old goddaughter didn't mind it at all and she gets scared on the train, lol! Because its in the dark and you land with a big splash (doesn't really get the boat wet at all, just makes a loud splash lol) it possibly feels faster than it is. That's it for Pirates, there is no spinning whatsoever.
Crush - I've not been on this but DH said it is really really spinny, he did come off feeling a bit dizzy lol. It is completely in the dark, so your sense of balance is out a little too which will add to the effect. If there are 4 people in your 'turtle vehicle' then it only spins a certain amount, but once DH went on with DS and there was no-one else in their vehicle so it was really unbalanced and they span constantly, and very fast. I would approach this with caution to be honest.
RC Racer - I've not been on this either, sorry.
Buzz Lightyear - the car's direction is controlled by you, and its one family/couple per car, so you don't need to spin at all if you don't want to. The ride track is literally like Snow White or Winnie the Pooh etc - with the option of turning your vehicle round with the joystick. If you've been on the one in WDW its very similar. (except I don't know where the hotspots are in this one, which is annoying!)
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster - Exactly the same as the one at WDW, just the scenery/story is slightly different. Definitely has 2 inversions. This should give you more info on this:
http://www.designingdisney.com/content/rock-n-roller-coaster-trivia-time I doubt you'd feel sick on it, it doesn't have the same motion as the Men in Black/Countdown to Extinction type rides. It goes forward so your body should process that fairly quickly and avoid any motion sickness which can happen when you go backwards.
If you don't have any problems taking medication, the normal car sickness tablets 'Kwells' can be really useful at Disney, take them every few hours and it does help. Also, eating and drinking plenty, and regularly, and getting enough sleep all help your body's sensory-processing speed so that it can cope with various effects.
Hope that helps, sure someone will be able to add something a bit better.
