Ok guys, I'm a HUGE fan of WDW but thanks to Sky me and DH are heading to DLP (for our first time) this October -- (looking forward to seeing the park dressed for Halloween), staying at the Dream Castle.

Now I'm a big wuss for rides and the not knowing what to expect so chicken out on LOADS and wondered if you guys could please tell me about a few at DLP.

My concerns are for the following rides as I don't like going backwards (Expedition Everest in WDW made me feel very queasy), spinning rides such as Men in Black at Universal Studios made me feel queasy and I'm not a big fan of loops and inversion roller coasters SO with that what can people tell me about the following rides:

  1. Star Tours
  2. Indiana Jones
  3. Pirates of the Caribbean
  4. Crushes Coaster
  5. RC Racer
  6. Buzz Lightyear
  7. Aerosmith Rock n Roller Coaster
I'm definately doing Tower of Terror, Big Thunder Mountain, Phantom Manor and TSY Parachute Drop.

If there's any other rides I've missed that you guys can recommend that would be great! :thumbsup2

The only one on that list we did was pirates of the caribbean. I'm a wuss on rides too but was assured this one was fine. My heart did stop a bit as we went up the track as I didn't realise that happens - after all, what goes up must come down, eek! The drop was split into two parts though and both were fine, I had a 5 year old, 7 year old and 11 year old with me and they all requested to go on it again so can't be that bad!

Hiya

I understand where you are coming from. Half the time it is the fear that stops you riding, the actual experience is often not as bad...but that is blown out of the water when you have a bad experience on something you had expected to be a walk in the park. So lets see if between us all, we can help... These are my personal opinions, everyone might disagree.

Star Tours - have you been on the one at MGM? It is very similar. It is a simulator and I personally do feel a bit queasy on it. Its very well done, so sometimes I make the effort.

Indiana Jones - it does have a loop in it and it goes very fast. Sometimes my ears hurt on it because the height I happen to be at is right where the head rest hard bits are, so when you go round the corners your head can hit the side. I'm not fond of it for that reason.

Pirates - its a boat ride like Its a small world, no lap bars and no restraints of any kind. You go up a steep lift hill, which makes you think you're going to go dropping off the end but you don't - you only slide down a few feet, to a different level of the ride. Then you float through more scenes and then approach a dark hole/entrance to a tunnel, and thats when you drop a little more. I wouldn't call it a drop - my very chicken 5 year old goddaughter didn't mind it at all and she gets scared on the train, lol! Because its in the dark and you land with a big splash (doesn't really get the boat wet at all, just makes a loud splash lol) it possibly feels faster than it is. That's it for Pirates, there is no spinning whatsoever.

Crush - I've not been on this but DH said it is really really spinny, he did come off feeling a bit dizzy lol. It is completely in the dark, so your sense of balance is out a little too which will add to the effect. If there are 4 people in your 'turtle vehicle' then it only spins a certain amount, but once DH went on with DS and there was no-one else in their vehicle so it was really unbalanced and they span constantly, and very fast. I would approach this with caution to be honest.

RC Racer - I've not been on this either, sorry.

Buzz Lightyear - the car's direction is controlled by you, and its one family/couple per car, so you don't need to spin at all if you don't want to. The ride track is literally like Snow White or Winnie the Pooh etc - with the option of turning your vehicle round with the joystick. If you've been on the one in WDW its very similar. (except I don't know where the hotspots are in this one, which is annoying!)

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster - Exactly the same as the one at WDW, just the scenery/story is slightly different. Definitely has 2 inversions. This should give you more info on this: http://www.designingdisney.com/content/rock-n-roller-coaster-trivia-time I doubt you'd feel sick on it, it doesn't have the same motion as the Men in Black/Countdown to Extinction type rides. It goes forward so your body should process that fairly quickly and avoid any motion sickness which can happen when you go backwards.

If you don't have any problems taking medication, the normal car sickness tablets 'Kwells' can be really useful at Disney, take them every few hours and it does help. Also, eating and drinking plenty, and regularly, and getting enough sleep all help your body's sensory-processing speed so that it can cope with various effects.

Hope that helps, sure someone will be able to add something a bit better.

ST is a simulator so shakes you abou a bit.

IJ has a loop and you go upside down. It's also not a dark ride (as it's outside) so you see everything around you

Crush is a dark ride and you spin a lot up and done but it's not a looping

RC Racer is like a pirates ship (I think that's what they are called) at fun fairs

Buzz is very tame - you sit in a little "car" and fire your lazer gun at the targets as you go round

RnRC is a dark ride( with what he thinks is a loop) and you go upside down 3 times now according to OH

SM2 is another dark ride where you go upside down at various times and you have to watch your head as it gets shaken about a bit :goodvibes

having been on all the rides you have mentioned on your list and reading your issues with spinning and backwards motions i think you will be 100% safe on only Pirates of the carribean and buzz lightyear rides. They are very gentle rides and very enjoyable.

after riding star tours i have found out that i suffer with motion sickness! after coming off it 2 years ago i felt awful for the rest of the day and it ruined my day to be honest.

the indiana jones ride only has 1 loop which isnt too bad to be honest, its not a massive loop and the rest of the ride is more jerky than anything so you might want to have a try at that if your feeling brave. (i found RC racer worse that it!)

i wouldnt panic about missing out the rides because its just a pleasure just to walk around and enjoy the ambience of disney and take in the shows than ride all the thrill rides.

Wow guys some really helpful awesome answers!!

Right...

Star Tours was a YES til I read the post about and it's not a NO!
Pirates of the Caribbean is a YES
Buzz Lightyear is a YES (LOVE the WDW version)

Does Indiana Jones go backwards??

Crush's Coaster is a NO

Hmm RC Racer - not sure, never been on those fun fair type pirate boats

RnRc another - not sure, WANT to (never did it at WDW) but might be a little yellow bellied - those inversions and stuff look a little terrifying!!! Did Cheetah Hunt at Busch Gardens (well got dragged on Cheetah Hunt) - did it but definately didn't feel like I wanted to go on it again!

I was petrified to to Tower of Terror at WDW and it took our second visit to WDW and my last day to do it and the minute I got off it I got right back on it!!

no Indiana jones ride doesnt go backwards anymore, and if you have done ToT then RC racer will be a breeze for you!

If your brave enough for ToT then you should be brave enough to ride almost everything! :thumbsup2

Ah but ToT doesn't do loops, inversions or backwards it just DROPS and makes your hair go :scared1: on the way down :rotfl2:

IJ doesn't go backwards 'anymore' - did it used to then?

Space Mountain is quite rought at DLP and it has loops, it is a more extreme ride than RnR. It is very different from the WDW ride.

As well as the rides you suggested I recommend you see some of the shows that you don't get at WDW.

Cinemaqique and Moteurs, Action, Stunts, Spectaculeur are particularly good! Animagique too if you like the characters/ Disney songs.

my 5 year old described crush as 'the depths of hell'!!

It starts off all lovely with beautiful jellyfish and little fishes then bam..out comes a mahoosive shark and youre dropped into pitch black spinning terror!! :scared1:..and its a long ride!

I seriously think it is misadvertised :lmao: particularly on the hotels disney channel..it was my sons first ride too bless him, talk about a baptism by fire!

I remember IJ going backwards too.

I'm not a fan of TOT but thought RC Racer was ok - it doesn't last long at all, I think you only go back and forth about 6 times. It's more a fuzzy tummy feeling than head hurting iykwim. You should be able to view this on youtube.

I don't enjoy SM anymore - my head really, really rattles on this now. It never used to, so I avoid it if I can.

Crush is brilliant - but a lot faster than it looks from the 2 seconds you see from the outside! lots of spinning too.

I found Indiana Jones quite bumpy, compared to RnRC and BTM, and Space Mountain is a favourite but it does shake you about (and I have a dodgy neck).

Love ToT but think RC Racer is terrifying, but have always hated those pirate ship rides!

For me its...
  • Star Tours Feels very shaky and made me feel gick
  • Indiana Jones Not so bad, a little jerky
  • Pirates of the Caribbean No probs, doesnt scare me at all
  • Crushes Coaster Very disorientating but I love dit
  • RC Racer Made me question my survival chances
  • Buzz Lightyear Great fun and by no means scary/shaky
  • Aerosmith Rock n Roller Coaster OK, not as bad as SM but also makes me ask "Who will care for the kids when I'm gone"?

SM gets me every time. I am so brave until strapped in and have yet (7 rides) to keep my eyes open. And I know its similar to RnRC but I just get freaked!

my 5 year old described crush as 'the depths of hell'!!

:scared1: well i think that about sums that ride up for me!!!

Must admit some of the descriptions of people's ride experiences have made me chuckle but they have also helped and made me think STEP AWAY from THAT ride :rotfl:
