I finally made the decision to stay at DLH - my first choice was Grand California but the kids thought it looked like WL and we have stayed there many times. They wanted something new and different. Please share your experiences. I have requested an Upper Level View...cost was much less than the standard view at GC.

My family feels the same way about the GC, (but I'm the planner and sometimes the planner has to win, right?) but the thought of actually staying in the park is kinda winning.

I'm anxious to hear what replies you get. :goodvibes

I love the Disneyland Hotel!! I grew up going there as a child every summer with my family. Now I have carried the tradition on for my own kiddos ages 4.5 and 1.5. They absolutely love it!!! My husband grew up only going to Disney a couple of times as a child and I had to talk him into staying there his first time. I kept telling him it is so fun and so worth it!! He agreed to try it out and now it is the only place he wants to stay. No we have not stayed at the GCH but I really can't justify the price. To me the DLH is the best!!
Every visit we eat at Goofy's kitchen, I always contact vacation planning and ask to have a character picture and button for the kiddos. This last time we had mickey cookies and rice krispies delivered too! The grounds are beautiful. My kids love the waterfalls and koi fish, the character cut outs which are great picture moments too.The pool is a big hit too!

We stayed at the DL hotel last week-end. We usually stay at the GC, which we love. We love WL, too, but it's not for everyone. :goodvibes

We enjoyed the pixie dust wallpaper border and the rooms were nicely decorated and in good shape. We were in the Magic tower in a premium view room that overlooked the pool. The waterfalls are pretty and the koi were fun to watch.

My family will not stay there again unless they have to as it seemed like it was very far to walk from the maingate -- it's only 1/2 mile according to Google but like the expanding hallways at the various Disney hotels it seemed a lot longer at the end of the day. It seems dated and it just doesn't have the charm of GC to us.

Your family may find that they love it -- that is why Disney gives us so many choices -- there is something for everyone.

Enjoy your stay!

Our family loves the magic of the DLH. Yes, it is a farther walk than from the GCH but it is such a magical stay for us. It is not fancy but the little things like the Tinkerbell and Pixie Dust wall trim that if you let the sun in your room during the day glowas in the dark as you go to sleep.

The Disney touches in decorating are all part and parce for our stay. THe upper level views are great. I love wotchong the pool and DTD, which ever view you get.

We too have stayed at both the GCH and DLH. They are hard to compare, because they are such different experiences. :thumbsup2 We truly have enjoyed both hotels.

We enjoyed our stay at DLH because the rooms seemed so much larger. We also stayed at the Dreams Tower, with an upper level room that overlooked DTD. We loved it and were able to see some of the fireworks. It is much more disney themed than the GCH.

As for the walk, we have older children and it really did not bother us as much as I thought it would. :confused3 We went during a cooler time and did not go back to the room during the day to go swimming. I guess we did not go back and forth as much as we normally do. We just stayed at the CGH a few weeks ago and would go back to the room everyday to go swimming and then before the fireworks to eat a snack and "cool" off.

So, that is our perspective and I hope it helps. I think that you will enjoy either hotel, they are both nice. Have fun planning your trip.:wizard:

When are you planning on going? I have not stayed at the DLH. If you go prior to November, it would be great to hear your perspective on it. And if you can please take a few pics and post!:worship:

We LOVE the DLH!! The grounds are beautiful and very Disney. You see characters walking around and in the lobby. The rooms are nice, the pool is great, and there are many dining and shopping choices nearby. We have used the Monorail (very nice when it's working properly!) and we've walked in/out of the park. The walk doesn't bother us, and we go with kids as young as 4 (no strollers). I have to say that we have experienced a lot of "downtime" with the Monorail so I wouldn't count on being able to use it. I like being near Compass Bookstore for coffee and breakfast eats. I love Steakhouse 55 for breakfast (haven't eaten any other meals there) --very family oriented, even though elegant! If you like character meals, Goofy's is right there. We usually get an upper level pool view room and it's beautiful. My kids love seeing Tinkerbell reflecting in the pool at night.

I made reservations for the DLH for our annual trip in Oct. However, the AP7 special came up and after calling and calling, I finally managed to get rooms for our dates, but at GCH. I could never get DLH. Since we've never stayed at GCH and it was cheaper than our DLH reservation, we took it. So...after Oct I will be able to compare the 2 with personal experience! I've always loved the look of the GCH but felt that DLH was more magical for the kids. My kids were disappointed to learn that we weren't staying at the "Mickey's hat hotel" this year!

i dont understand the distance issue...unless you want to walk all the way to the front gate, the monorail station is just past the big Hat at then end of the property:confused3

Take the monarail! Save the walk. California adventure is less convienent, but you can detour through GCH part way through to take their entrance. That is what we did when we stayed there. Just walk up to the main area later so you can see it. You will be thankful for that monarail at the end of the day!
