DLH vs. GCH

We stayed at GCH last March for DS's first trip to DLR. I picked the hotel because it was the "nicest" of the ones on property. I admit to being a hotel snob, and view it as much more than just a place to sleep.

I'm looking to book something for September, and am now wondering if DLH is now the "nicest" because it's all shiny and new. Any thoughts about the refurbished DLH vs. GCH? I'm talking about things like how comfortable the beds are, how nice the linens are, how clean/new things are, etc. I'm *not* concerned about which one seems more "magical" or better themed...just pure hotel niceness, not Disney-ness.

Also, if you were to pick a tower at DLH, which one would it be and why?

I think if you want a newer room, definitely go with Disneyland Hotel. If the major selling points of GCH (location, lobby) are not important to you, try a newly refurbished room.

DLH, depending on you room in GCH and DLH may feel far, because it can about twice as far as the GCH furthest rooms. Also it will still have construction going on, mainly the large pool being worked on. I'd suggest the Adventureland tower with a park view. The new parts of the pool area that are open are great. The rooms are nice and generallly bigger than in the GCH.

If you enjoyed being close might stick with the GCH.

We did enjoy being close, that's for sure! There's not much of a price difference...$195 for DLH and $231 for GCH. Since we are only going to stay one night (two at the most), cost is not really a factor. I don't think we will use any pools. I want the nicest hotel, closest hotel, and a Magic Morning. I think maybe I should stick with GCH.

Thanks.

Since we have started staying at the GCH, we have found no reason to migrate.

Ditto..I will say that since Destination D last year was at the DLH I stayed there, in an older room...looking over the parking lot...and really enjoyed it. Very magical furninshings(I'd love that TV cabinet..wonder where all the old ones went?)

We are checking out of DLH this am after our very first stay here in DLR.

In my opinion, FWIW, is I am having major regrets that I didn't stick with my original booking of the GCH. To me, others may disagree, DLH just doesn't offer the "resort" feel that I'm used to when staying on Disney property. We walked through GCH yesterday on our way to CA, it is absolutely beautiful.

The lobby area of DLH is welcoming and themed nice but I felt very isolated staying in the tower. I had no reason to go back to the lobby since checking in and the "towers" decor is minimalist at best. Although the rooms were nice, I do not think I got my $$'s worth. Mousekeeping arrived so late in the day yesterday (@ 3:00) that our room didn't get cleaned (we were already back into the room for our afternoon rest, kids fell asleep). They never returned in the evening for the turndown servive either. DH spoke last night and if I ever get to come back, I will try PP or GCH.

Good luck with your decision. I think so much depends on personal preferences and I think GCH offers more of what we are used to in terms of Disney theming....JMHO :wizard:

Agreed. The lobby at GCH is so much nicer. And since we go off-season when it's chilly, there's nothing like lounging in front of the fire and listening to the Disney music on the grand piano.
