DLH vs. GCH in March for young kids with midday break

Thank you! Our kids will likely jump in bed with adults at some point, even if they start on the pull out / day bed. They are just co-sleepers still at this age once the clock strikes midnight…

We were just talking about the kitchenettes. How the microwave, toaster, dishes, etc. would be “nice to haves” but we wonder how much we would actually utilize it for a three day trip. Could be a requirement for a group of 6 at Disney world for 7-8 days, but maybe not here. Do the GCH rooms at least have a mini fridge for a few yogurts, smoothies, maybe some fruits and vegetables?
As JoJo and Pirates said, there is a mw, Keurig, and a bar area in GCH rooms. You can request extra coffee pods, cream etc from housekeeping if needed.

Also, GCH (I don't know about DLH) has wonderful room service with really good options. It's not cheap, but it's handy and cool to order it the night before and have fresh coffee and food arrive at your room in the morning. You also don't have to buy and prepare food yourself :) They also have mimosas and other adult beverages you can order.

If you reserve adjoining rooms, is it possible to get CL with just one of them? Probably not? But that might be something to consider if you could do it. Your family of 4 could get CL but you probably want to be together as a family of 6, though it would be handy for most of you LOL. Oh, another possibility would be to book the rooms as having 5 in one and 1 in the other and get CL for the room with 5. I'm not sure how much your youngest eats and I imagine it would be considered unethical if you were bringing things back for a 6th person.

My room last month did not have a microwave, just a fridge and Keurig machine.

I was surprised they didn't offer hot chocolate pods. I didn't bother asking about them since I have better cocoa at home (SillyCow). :-)

Keurig machine? Is GCH not using Joffrey’s Coffer?
I don't drink coffee, so I may be wrong, but I don't think Keurig makes coffee, just brewing machines. As I recall, there were a couple of different brands of coffee pods in my room at the GCH.

They had their own brand but were so successful they licensed their technology out, which is why you can buy Starbucks k cups. But it’s my understanding Joffrey’s does not do k cups.

I thought Joffrey’s was served everywhere at DLR and WDW, sans Starbucks. Joffrey’s, local to Central Florida, came to WDW after a Disney exec enjoyed their brew. It landed at DLR after Disney pushed for single supplier procurement, and legend has it that it was hated so badly by CA-based employees, they fought to bring Starbucks into the resort. There’s suppose to be an employees olnly Starbucks at DLR…

We have stayed at both many times. The GCH has proximity and that is all. And depending on where your room is it can still take as much as DLH. We had always stayed at DLH and one time we decided to stay at the Grand because well it was so nice during Christmas time. And yes it was nice but we preferred the DLH.

DLH
Way better pools. My kid has preferred the DLH pool from age 3-16. Not once have they said they like GCH pool better.
Less people walking around and just overall less noisy.
Rooms are way bigger.
coffee shop, restaurants on property. two stores.
It is about 12-15 min walk. It is 5-7 min longer walk than GCH

GCH
Proximity to DCA. It can take longer to get to DL depending where your room is.
the Lobby is amazing, but always packed with people. Many who are not even staying there.
While walking to the pool or to eat you will have to walk through so many people who are in the looby or eating.
downtown is just right outside.
The rooms are smaller.

We will only choose GCH if we know it will be very hot or we are going 2 days so need as much time saving as possible. All other times every single person in my family prefers the DLH.
These GCH vs. DLH discussions are always informative. For our family, it simply comes down to theming preference. We do not care for the "woodsy" theming of GCH and we love the "Disneyland" theming of the DLH. The proximity of GCH is not enough to overcome this subjective preference. Many people like the GCH theming so it makes the proximity plus the theme perfect for them, but it's just not for us.

Oh, you're right! No mw. Sorry! They just have mw's for guest use on each floor.

There is a dedicated SB's backstage for employees (not free).

I agree that Joffrey's is crappy.

Totally agree. It can also be age related. My 3 girls adored DLH and we always stayed there until they got older. We all preferred GCH when they were past the little kid stage, so we started to go there instead. Mom and dad really appreciated the closer location and liked the amenities.

I agree when i stay at DLH i feel at Disney but at GCH it just feels like im closer lol. The tea cups in th lobby, the monorail pool, the hat by adventure tower, the topiary and just the not many other guest around besides the ons staying there. I always prefer DLH but sometimes we stay at GCH because well its so close, but the rooms are just smaller and to many people in the lobby
