They are both the same price and I was wondering what you would prefer and why? Thanks!

Personally while I would probably prefer DLH as a hotel the extras of conceit gas well as the better potential view of PPH might have me sold. An upgraded view at DLH is the pool, at PPH you can probably catch a view of the theme parks! When we were at GCH last year we had a great view of DCA (not from a theme park view room), so it is possible! The only downfall is the long walk across the street (out of the Disney bubble) and I feel like the theming there is the weakest of the 3 on-site hotels. Either way you will love your hotel I'm sure- they really are both great!

DLH would be my preference as well. PPH concierge standard is just a regular (non-view) room with concierge privileges. That's nice, as you can grab breakfast, snacks, appetizers and drinks. But the hotel is not in the same category as DLH and lacks the grounds and fun amenities. I don't really care much for the location, which is on a traffic street and bordered by a parking lot so you don't feel as immersed there. You can always walk over to DLH from PPH, though, but it feels much more "resortish" to stay at DLH, IMO. There is also lots of cool historical art and memorabilia.

One of my issues is it isn't close to DTD should I decide I want something. Last trip I got in at 8pm. Then decided I wanted food, and headed to Tortilla Jo's taquiria, and it was a pain to get there. I really remembered it the next time when I was at DLH and it was so easy!

I know I'm in the minority on these boards, but I would actually pay more for the PPH than the DLH, for a list of reasons. Whenever faced with a choice like yours, where I can get PPH concierge for the same price as a regular room at the DLH, it's PPH without hesitation. My favorite standard view concierge rooms are on the 3rd level, with a little private balcony and direct access to the pool itself.

DLH here too...tho I have only stayed there and have no experience with PPH. Love the DLH with all the vintage photos and Mickey touches!

DLH all the way! The rooms are nicer, the staff is much better, and the grounds are beautiful!

I agree that the grounds are nice at the DLH, but you don't have to stay there to enjoy those. As to your other points, I respectfully disagree. I found the DLH rooms to be boring (run-of-the-mill Hilton or Marriott with a light-up headboard) and the staff by FAR the worst of the three on-site hotels. As those are subjective matters, though, everyone's opinions will vary!

Every time we walk to Goofy's Kitchen for dinner, I am so glad we did not stay at the DLH. We stay at the GCH because it is so much closer, but if I couldn't stay there, I would choose PPH. It is just across the street from the GCH. After all that walking in the park, the last trek to the hotel can feel interminable.

I'm with you on this.

We've stayed at all three onsite hotels and would pick PPH over the other two. Add in concierge to PPH and it is a no-brainer for me.

I do love the rooms at PPH. Concierge lounge is great and love the food. I don't like that it closes at 8pm (compared to 10 at the other hotels.) But what makes me avoid the PPH it is how horrible the elevators are. It is so frustrating. I've once waited over 5 elevators to be able to get on. Just not something I will do again (done it 3 times, I'm done.)

As for the walk, it is a 5 min walk from Goofy's to the DTD turn into the Grand by the 365 store. For us, it really isn't a big deal. It is shorter to walk thru DTD to get to the DLH than going the long way via PPH (unless you are in the GCH lobby to begin with.)

Yeah, the walk from PPH and DLH is virtually the same amount of time for us, plus you don't have to cross the traffic street at a signal and go through the GCH on the walk from DLH.

I found the rooms at PPH to be very nice. I found the service and the elevators far below par, and there are NO grounds whatsoever, though there is a nice pool/slide on one floor with rooms that adjoin. Those would be pretty nice.

Well, the PPH elevators certainly get a lot of bad press but I guess I'm lucky in that I've never really had a problem with them. Between the "standard" elevators and the super-cool glass one, my family has never had to wait an inordinate amount of time to ride up or down.

If we're going to nit-pick, some of the rooms at the GCH are a serious hike away from the elevators. And given that the DLH is spread amongst three towers, getting from place to place there can be a hassle as well. My last stay there I had a suite in the Frontier tower, which made getting to the E-Ticket Lounge a pretty horrible inconvenience.

If we're going to nit-pick,
I don't consider waiting 5-15 mins for an elevator "nit picking." I've stayed in all 3, and I really do enjoy the PPH, but until something happens with the elevators, I won't be back. The fact that I am not the only one who complains about the elevators (look at all the comments on Trip Advisor also!) says it really is an issue.

I've used all 3 concierge lounges, and can honestly say PPH and DLH really are very close as to which one I like best. I don't care for the GCH one anywhere near what I like of the other 2. And yes, if I were in the Frontier tower, going to the E-Ticket would be about the same pain as being in the higher 400 rooms in the GCH and trying to go to the Craftsman Club. BTDT... Everyone has their personal preferences.

Good point about the hike from some of the rooms in GCH. I always always make sure to request a certain area of the hotel because I got stuck in one of those rooms-down-a-hall-down-a-hall-down-a-hall from the elevators once and it WAS NOT fun, regardless of the 'secret exit', which only helps you in one direction (going out). Malcon10t and I disagree on the concierge lounges :) I prefer GCH because they have some food items I haven't found at DLH's lounge, and I thought the offerings at DLH's around lunch and snack time were pretty feeble. Oh! Except for the homemade potato chips and green salsa! But I was surprised they had no deli things, like turkey, ham, cheese etc. for sandwiches. They have those at breakfast, so we make our sandwiches then. They don't have any of the finger sandwiches, either. HOWEVER, the service at DLH lounge is superior by far.

At DLH, I don't care for the Frontier tower. We had trouble with the elevators there, too; it's farther away from everything, and half the tower has an uninspiring parking lot directly adjacent. If you get the end closest to DTD it isn't bad, and the other half of the hotel can have some nice views, plus the only remaining balconies are on the top floor of that tower (I think). However, I always request Adventure and haven't had a problem getting it. Step out the door and you're almost in DTD. I also like the main lobby tower (Fantasy?); if you have the non-view side, you still can see nice things. The only part of the hotel that is kind of out of the loop IMO is part of the Frontier tower. Otherwise, you're close to some action in any other part of the hotel.

I'm another one who has been lucky with the PPH elevators, we didn't find the wait long when we were there in August.

I'm also with you on the rooms in GCH, I'm pretty sure that the walk from our room in GCH was equal to the on from our room in PPH! Those hallways just go on and on and on!

We've stayed VGC/GCH and DLH and been to PPH. I suppose it depends on when you are going, as we disliked the hot walk from DLH when we stayed there ( I was 5 months pregnant and it was HOT and long). At least the PPH walk would be partially through the airconditioned GCH.

When we stay at the GCH, we always request 1st floor in the DVC wing - no waiting for elevators and super close to everything. I'm definitely following this thread though because I have PPH concierge booked for December (I would switch to DLH if I thought we might be able to swim then, but I'm guessing it might be too cool). If you check the Christmas thread, Sherry has stayed PPH a lot and prefers it. I found DLH to be just kind of blah in the magic department... I know, I know. It just felt impersonal, though we LOVE Tangaroa Terrace. No matter where you stay, definitely try it out, the food is good and cheap.

Can you do this if you're not a DVC member? That is awesome information! Thanks!
