Wondering if anyone out there has a success story for getting a room upgrade at the DLH?

Is it just "luck of the draw" or is there anything I can do?

Thanks for sharing :goodvibes

i think you can always ask when you check in to see what they can do. id also call and ask just so they have it on your resvation you are hoping for an upgrade and they will see what they can do usely is what they say

We were upgraded to a pool view for free. It was just a nice surprise. I tend to think checking in early helps, but that's just my theory. Also depends on how booked out they are too.

I don't think I'd ever ask for it though, since it is something you normally have to pay for. It's just a nice surprise when it happens. Part of the magic!

I agree, it is nice when it just happens. If they over book they might bump you up. Never happened to us at DL but twice at the wilderness lodge in WDW we were upgraded to courtyard view for free. It's nice. However I also wouldn't ask because it is an extra expense. I do like to stay concierge at GCH though :thumbsup2

I started booking standard romms a couple of years ago because I was always upgraded to a view room - about 6-8 times now. Oddly enough, in 15-16 stays at PPh I have yet to get an upgrade.

We have 2 success stories to share:

1st one was in January at the GCH we were scheduled to be in a Downtown Disney District view and when we arrived not only were we upgraded to a theme park view but when we pulled up as the bellhop was helping us unload our bags we were approached by one of the hotels upper management team members and greeted as he told us that he had already checked us in and that he was here to take us straight to our room....not checking in at the front, and as we walked that is when he shared with us that our room had been upgraded as well!!!:goodvibes I should also mention that we had arrived at the hotel at 11:00am so this all happend well before the 3pm check in time!!! The next surprise we received on that trip was on that very same day we came back to our room about 9pm to a rose petal path leading from the entry to the bed with slippers and robes set our for us as well as a plate of chocolates and tuxedo strawberries and milk on ice and yummy cookies on a plate for the kids that had Grand Californian Hotel written in chocolate on the plate!!!!! I have some pictures of the room but I do not know how to uplaod them here otherwise I would share what the room looked like because it was beautiful!!! We felt like royalty that day!!!!!

Our 2nd story:
This past June I decided to take the girls along with 1 friend each down for a night for a quick girls getaway (seeing as how we won a special ap preview of TSM) which we like to do often but mostly day trips because we live in Cali so we just drive home at the end of our night...but like many other day trips we have scheduled to do this one turned into a well lets just stay over night and enjoy it that much more. I called to book a AP rate room at the Disneyland hotel and got a great rate on a standard view room which for the DLH is a city view or a parking lot view.
The day of our trip came and we left early and arrived at the DLH at about
8am which is way before the 3pm check in time but we wanted to get a full day in the parks so we went to check in and have them hold our bags and figured we would come back when the room was ready. Upon checking in the CM says: It looks like you booked a standard view room at a great AP rate
I say: Yes sure did and it was a great rate!
The CM says: Well it also looks like we have upgraded you to a 1 bedroom suite!!!!
I say: Are you serious!!!!!!
The CM says: Yes I am
I say: Oh my gosh this is awesome, while the girls jump up an down:yay: :yay:
The CM says: Glad you are so happy and smiles, then tells me our room is not ready yet but should be ready in the next couple hours.... early!!!!
I say: Thank you so much, it feels like we got dreamed before even entering the parks to start our day!!!!

We leave and head towards the monorail in DTD and the good times continue when we are given the opportunity to sit in the very front of the monorail with the driver!!!! In all the years as AP holders and as many times as we have been to Disneyland we have never been able to ride in the very front of the monorail so it was a great surprise and was perfect seeing as how we were a group of 5 and that is all that will fit in the front!!! The driver to the monorail was great and very friendly and funny as well, he joked with us the entire drive until our drop off in Tomorrowland!!!!

Did I mention that not only did all these good things happen on our girls trip but it was also my B-day!!!!!! I could not have been more happy!:goodvibes
All in all the trip was GREAT!!!! We had a wonderful time and enjoyed our preview of TSM riding it about 7 times in a row!!!! We were so happy we decided to stay down for the night!!!!

Our next over night is scheduled in approx 3 weeks at the GCH. We booked a standard view room so I will come back and post after and let you know if it happens again! I do not expect it, because it is nice enough that we get to stay at the GCH on a great AP rate, so we are happy for that!!!!

A year ago we booked to stay at PPH. We arrived at around 11:00 and when we checked in they informed us that we were upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite with a view of California Adventure. It was a great treat.

A couple of years ago we had a standard room booked at DLH, it was in January, so not busy. I called a couple of days before (they usually pre-assign rooms a few days before) and requested a room in what was then the Marina tower with two beds and a day bed (the rooms are bigger that way) even tho it was just me and dd. Well, when we checked in we were upgraded to a pool view on a higher floor. It was great.

I call at least once a week just trying to get a concierge upgrade....nuffin.:sad2:

They just keep telling me to either call back or ask at check-in. They also said its best to call in the morning as thats usually when they have the cancellations.

Glad to hear that others are having some success with room upgrades...thats hopeful. :goodvibes
