We are staying at the DLH for 2 nights for $701 with tax. What other costs am I going to incur? Whats the bed tax? Resort fee per night, is this optional? What about parking? Thanks!

701 :rolleyes1 ..... couldnt u have stayed at the grand for the same price :upsidedow :flower3:

Other than tax, you will pay the resort fee ($13 or $16 per day I cannot remember) The fee includes your parking, high speed internet in your room and use of thefitness center. The resort fee is not optional. I have never heard of a bed tax at DLH :confused3

I wish we could! There were no openings at the californian when we are going. On my reservation letter, it says "RATES: Bed Tax, resort free, valet parking, and Disneyland resort tickets are NOT included in your room rates"

I was like BED TAX!? What the heck is that! lol

The resort fee has been $12 per night this year (I am sure they will raise it next year!). BUT they also add that dreadful 15% tax on the resort fee, so it will be an extra $13.80 per night on top of your per night room rate and 15% tax!

You know what that COULD mean? It could mean that if they have to bring in a rollaway bed (like in GCH, I think they can if it is requested) to one of the rooms, they charge whatever the fee is for that PLUS the mysterious BED TAX!:rotfl: Many of the rooms sleep up to 5 people now, because there is usually a daybed along with two individual beds in the PPH and, I think, in DLH too.

Just in case, if you don't have APs I would be happy to check the AP site for any special rates during your stay. That way if it worked out better (including room and an AP), you could get an AP (instead of whatever ticket you might get) and then get the better rate.... If you want me (or any passholder) to check, just give us your dates! :goodvibes

Sherry, thanks for the info on the exact cost of the resort fee! All the AP reservations number guy said was "$12 per night plus tax on that, payable at the end of your stay". Knowing 13.80 is better!

I always like to know exactly what I am up against so I can figure everything out down to the penny, but I seem to have luck with CM's who want to volunteer this info. They always quote the $13.80 per night amount - and they will even tell me the total Resort Fee and tax for all of my nights combined - without me even requesting it! I guess they can sense that I want to know! I don't like hidden or surprise fees jumping up to bite me on the rear!

For what ever it's worth here is my experience with what I just went through 2 days ago. We spur-of-the moment decided to head to DL this weekend, yes not much planning here. I have the AP7 pin rate of $179 plus 15% tax a night. So for three nights it was going to be $618 with tax. Then we want 3 day park hoppers for 2 adults and 1 child with a cost of $507. Total is $1185. I would have to show my AP card when we checked it to confirm that rate and my AP expired and we didn't renew for this year. SOO I went to Costco and did a package and it outbeat that price. We are staying for 3 nights and the 3 day park hoppers for the 2 A and 1 C, plus a $100 GC, free character b-fast for all, all the other little added perks, including tax AND resort fee (which is clearly stated on my reciept) with the grand total for being $1271. Take into account we got the free character b-fast which is close to $80 for us and a free $100 GC without those our total with resort fee and tax would be $1091. My point is, look at Costco. I don't know if you need tickets or not, but if you do and are going soon there are some wonderful deals.

But to answer your question, there is a resort fee per night and it is $12 plus tax. They don't really tell you about it until you check in however I am one of those that ask, "what other fees should I expect" person. The resort fee includes the parking and i-net, however I have no clue what the bed tax is. My guess is there isn't any.

When are you going??

We've been lucky that they've always told us about the resort fees on the phone when making our reservation. I don't mind it, because it does cover the parking and internet usage. Which we like very much. But I do like to have my GRAND total before even leaving our house! LOL The only time I was surprised by a fee like this was when staying at the Red Roof Inn. Didn't expect some sort of resort fee for a motel really. So since then I prepare! LOL

Bed tax is the hotel tax, which is 15%. It is not based upon your total stay, but rather is added to each night, that you will be staying. Which comes out to be the same price, in the end. 15% hotel tax, is the tax for the entirety of Anaheim, and most likely for that of all of Southern Ca. as well. That being for hotels, not sales tax. If it was sales tax too, then.........:faint:

Good to know, I'm hoping to stay at the DLH in January and I'll be paying for half. Do they charge your card the full amount when you book the room?

They only charge for the first night when you book.

Also, if you call the hotel, they will tell you the exact cost of your stay including everthing. I do not like surprises when it comes to the bill:scared1:

Thank you for your response! I really don't like surprises like that either! :rotfl:

There really aren't any hidden costs, except that you get the nightly rate in your head and then when they give you the final total, it can be a bit of a shock! They have been very good about giving me all of the costs when I've called, making sure I understand about the tax and the resort fee. I do wish the resort fee was optional since I don't use any of the things that supposedly come with the fee (parking, internet, exercise room, newspaper). Even if I did, I'd gladly give it up for the extra savings ;) My feeling is that resort fees are a rip-off extra tax that shouldn't be charged. I mean, you're already paying a premium for the privilege of staying in a resort hotel. However, if that's what it takes to keep the hotels running well, then I will accept that. I'd still rather see it rolled into the room rate, since you have to pay it anyway, but I'm sure there is some reason why they do it the way they do, like maybe they get to keep the tax instead of handing it over to the state/county? I read that the airlines like to charge the extra baggage fees rather than including them in the ticket price because they don't have to pay any tax on baggage fees but would if it was part of the ticket price.

While there are extra fees that go along with staying at a resort hotel, there are also some extra perks, like MM every day it's offered and package delivery to your hotel, as well as character meal restaurants and so on.

I have to wholeheartedly agree with DizMe - I wish the resort fee were optional. Not everyone uses those services that it includes. I am another one who does not. In fact, last year, my friend wanted to do valet parking at the GCH and so essentially parking was paid for twice because of the resort fee. I didn't get a newspaper, I didn't use the hotel room phone, etc. It just was an extra chunk of money that I was charged for nothing. Over $41 spent for services we did not use!

In the old days of staying at the DLH (when that was the only place to stay), and even when the PPH first became a DLR hotel years ago, they would make you put down a phone deposit, and you got that back at the end of the stay if you made no calls, and you paid a parking fee. If you didn't need to park (like if someone dropped you off), you didn't pay. Now we all have to pay for something that only some of us use. I don't think that is fair. But if that is the only way to stay onsite and enjoy the experience and the perks involved, then I guess we have no choice!

And careful of the phone charges as well. We stayed at the GCH in October and I made one 2 second call home - hubby had called while we were in the park and said to call back. I literally said - Hi Frank, it's me. Call me." - and then hung up the phone. On the bill we were charged $12.70 for the call :scared1:

OK, I live in Canada and it's long distance, but even in Canada I have a phone plan that is unlimited North America, so really how much could it have been. That was THE MOST expensive 2 second call of my life
