DLH Fridges

My honey and I were planning on hitting a grocery store on our drive in and picking up some milk and cereal (and bagels and cream cheese)for breakfast for our 4 day stay at DLH.

Can anyone tell me how large the fridges are at DLH? Will a half gallon fit in the fridge? Will we have room for water, or our ready to drink shakes? Would we be better off bringing our styrafoam cooler and ice? Is it going to be a problem if we check-in at 9-10am and leave the cooler with our baggage?

What's the closest grocery (or convenience store)?

OH! And a bonus question! Has anyone walked from DLH to McDonalds or Mimi's for a nice relaxing dinner after a long day in the park? Is it far?

Thanks all so much for assisting with this trip! 4 more days!!! WOO!

The fridge is different in different rooms. I wouldn't count on a half-gallon fitting unless you had a screw cap and set it on it's side. We had things going every which way to get them to fit. You can get pints of milk at the newstand right across from the monorail in Downtown Disney (at Disney prices). The fridge is perfect for ready made drinks and water. We took those clear 1/2 gallon jugs that look like mini water coolers and made sugar free koolaid every morning. Made the kids shove in ice cubes 90% of the way and added water. Kept them occupied during the morning routine.

When you check your bags early, there are several bellmen in an area in front of the hotel and they take your bags into this holding building. I would feel ok giving them a cooler with a bungee around it, but I don't know if they would go for a styrofoam cooler.

It is one long walk to McDonalds and Mimi's. I love walking in Disney, but I'd hate to have to walk back to the DLH with a full stomach after a long day at DL. There are convenience stores across from DL as well, but again - long walk.

We went to House of Blues for Happy Hour and got cheap snacks while Gma babysat. The ESPN zone is reasonable priced as well. If you join the mvp club at ESPNzone.com, you can get some perks for your vacation.

I know there is a Target around, but not familiar with the location. There is also a site for exactly how far it is from here to there but I can't remember what it is. Maybe someone can post this for you. I found Downtown Disney a complete mystery until I had stayed on-site at 2 different hotels. Now it feels like home (I wish!).

Have a great time! I'm right behind you!

Hi! There are convenience stores near McD on Harbor - several of the motels have small stores where you can buy milk, etc.

I guess it all depends on how much energy you have after a day at DL as to whether or not you're up for a walk to McD or Mimis. It's really not that much farther to walk across Harbor (to McD or Mimis) once you're at the front gates of DL. And the walk back to the DLH takes you through Downtown Disney, which is an easy, entertaining walk.

Here is the web site for gmaps pedometer. http://www.gmap-pedometer.com It will tell you exactly how far it is from Point A to Point B. Best I can tell from the front door of DLH to the front door of McDonald's it is .83 miles one way. Whether that is 'far' or not is completely subjective.
