I'm staying at the DLH in April for 3 nights in a standard view room.

Do you know what tower they will put me in? Can I request a certain tower at check-in? What are my chances for getting an upgrade? Do they automatically do that if there's availability?

thanks.

Most likely the Bonita Tower or the Marina Tower. Of the two I prefer Marina for being closer and the same tower that the lobby/check-in desk is in. And it leads out right by the pool!!

We have been upgraded to pool view from standard, once in Marina tower and once in Sierra. They did it without me asking, and the one time I did ask I was told it would be $30 a night more.

Good luck, hoping for an upgrade for you, either way you'll have a great time though!

You can request to be in the Sierra Tower. I would call and add that request to your ressie about a month before your dates of stay, and then call again a few nights before your check-in date to make sure it is still requested on your ressie.

There are some lower level rooms in teh Sierra Tower that are considered standard view, and you will run a better chance of getting upgraded to a higher floor if you put in your request early and smile and be very nice to the CM doing your check-in. (at least this whole scenario worked for me) :thumbsup2

We requested a fold out couch... and ended up with a great room because of that!

thanks for the tips. I won't ask for an upgrade but hopefully they will give us one. If not, no big deal...I'm just happy to be able to stay there.

Where will you be? Right where we all WANT to be!! :rotfl2: Sorry I couldn't resist!

Enjoy your trip! I'm a Jersey girl, too---Essex County.

I just made our our reservations for the Disneyland Hotel March 12-16. I am so excited about this trip we are taking in March. It will be the first time my niece has ever stayed on property and she is so excited. Anybody think it will be warm enough to swim? She is 19 and she is as excited as our children which are younger. 13, 12 and 10. So if anyone else is gonna be there then maybe we'll see you!

I have swam at the DLH pool in the months of December, January and February so I am thinking March will be fine! The pool is heated and they also have a nice, large hottub. Even when the air is cold we swim, we are on vacation and my kids couldn't not swim, espeically at the DLH. Just take a warm robe or something since its getting out of the pool that is sometimes nippy. Have fun, its a great hotel.

Also, regarding the OP and original question. You can be in any one of the three towers with a standard view. I think the only bad view is the backside of the Bonita Tower since it looks at a parking lot. The Marina can also have a parking lot view but its a nicer view with a glimpse of the big Mickey statue and the parks/fireworks. However, in some ways the Bonita is my favorite since you walk thorugh the fountains and Koi ponds which are so lovely. I second that the Sierra, DTD side can have some standard rooms. We have been in that tower twice on the lower floors. You can't see much of DTD but there are nice trees there and also even on the second floor of that side/tower we could see quite a bit of the fireworks. Each tower has its advantages and disadvantages, they are all nice. And the walk to the Bonita vs the other two is minimal in my view and not an issue.

Last July we got a free upgrade to a pool view room in the Marina Tower without asking. It's not something to depend on though, we've gotten the Bonita tower with a view of the parking lot before too!

If your going to make a request for a tower, request either the Sierra or the Marina tower. We prefer those. The Bonita tower is nice, but it's a further walk, and seemed to have the "least" Disney theming to us. The Marina has the lobby, shops, close to DTD and the pool. We would see Goofy in the lobby on our way down to the park. We really enjoyed being in the Marina tower. Sierra is either a view of the Pool or DTD. It's also the closest tower to DTD.

The last time we stayed we were upgraded to a pool view. I had called a week before our trip and requested the Marina Tower, and then I requested a large room with two queens and a day bed. When we checked in we were upgraded.

Also, if you have small kids ask for "special delivery" and you can get autographed pic's of the characters. I asked at check in (I forgot when I called) and later that night we had a message that my dd had a "special delivery" at the desk. We went down and it was an autographed pic of the princesses, she was thrilled.

Also, if you are a coffee drinker ask for a coffee pot when you check in and it will be delivered to your room, coffee cups and all....

Thank you everybody for your response. We are so excited. We have stayed at the Disneyland Hotel and we stayed at the Sierra Tower. It is my favirote view wise. In my opinion there is a win win situation as far as the view goes. The kids and my DH will bring their swimsuits, we didn't last time because it was December 2004. My niece is especially excited because she has never been on the hotel grounds. I can hardly wait. Only 44 more days until we're there. 43 until we leave. Yipee!:yay: pixiedust:
To top it off we are gonna celebrate my Mom's 70 birthday. I think at the Storyteller because she loves Chip and Dale.

Another thing I noticed on Trip Advisor about the DLH reviews is that the people who got put in rooms with a bad view of the parkling lot (I guess that would be a good view of the parking lot!) that asked to be moved, were moved.

I didn't read all fifty billion reviews, but a lot of them, and there were a few people that complained about the view (in their review), but didn't ask to be moved. So of course they weren't, LOL. I never saw anyone say that they asked to be moved and were denied.

Having stayed there before I know they really try to make your stay a good one. The only complaint I had when I stayed there before washow expensive feeding everyone was. I figure this time I am going to bring breakfast items, snacks and water and that should save a little money. My DH and I consider it worth the money for the close proximity if nothing else.

My DH makes plastic bottles real close to your husband.

This is all great info.

Because everybody seems to have a different preference when it comes to which tower is the best to stay in and all for varying reasons, I think that I'm not going to request any tower....I'll let them assign me a room/tower and be surprised! BUT, if I get there and decide that I'd like to be in a specfic tower, I can always ask at check-in OR if I don't care for our location/room I can always see if they will change it for us.

My only request really is that I get a non-smoking room.

I think all rooms are non smoking , I could be wrong. We stayed in the bonita tower , but had the pool view. I really liked walking by the waterfall there but it is the longest walk. Who knows where we will be next trip .
