Hello, all!!!

We are doing our 1st on property stay at VGC and we are going to be in the pools a LOT! :) one day will be in the cabanas at DLH and one day in cabanas at GCH! The other days we will be the pools at GCH. We are going to just RELAX! I usually don't drink alcohol but I think I will indulge this time around! :)

My DH likes beer and I like the fruity sweet drinks. Any suggestions? When we go to DLH, I like the idea of ordering the ones that come in the souvenir tiki glass. Were those worth the price? TIA!

Most of the full service bars, and some dining locations in DCA have the same cocktail menu.

At the GCH poolside I have always ordered the fruity drinks they have on the pool bar menu, I know I have had a few and none stick out as bad.
But watch out, they can sneak up on you :rotfl2:

At DLH I am not sure how the drinks work now as I haven't been to that pool in a while. Not sure if you can order from Trader Sam's to get the souvenir glasses or not. But everything at Trader Sam's is good ! Pricey if you get the take home glass, so be a bit mindful of that but still very tastey :)

One of our favorites (on the standard cocktail menu) is the Smoked Turkey (this is 3 different kinds of bourbon I think and some really delish marinated cherries and some sort of mixer.)

The Gin and Vodka Martinis available at the Carthay Circle are an event, the way they make them table side for you is a show of its own. Highly recommend.

The Hearthstone lounge makes a great Irish Coffee to enjoy next to one of the fire places for an evening of relaxation after the parks.

Sorry I wasn't much help with poolside, but we are locals and go for drinks at the different bars and dining location on property regularly, in fact we are headed there after work tonight for some food fun and play time in the parks.

Enjoy your stay :beach:

I really enjoyed the Shipwreck, although it is probably not the sweetest of the drinks (bourbon-based). You don't need more than one, however. :scared1:

You can say that again... the Shipwreck on the Rocks is pretty strong.

I've had the Shrunken Zombie Head, the shipwreck on the rocks and the Krakatoa Punch (and got the glasses). The punch is what you want.

One thing to be aware of, the drinks themselves are only a couple ounces (6 maybe). Its all ice.

There is a pear martini at Carthay that I really loved and a blue drink at WCT that is still one of my favourites. I can't tell you anything else about it other than it tasted like blue. :rotfl:

Thank you to everyone for their suggestions! We are only ordering the drinks while we are at the pools so I was curious about the options nearby. Knowing me, I'll stick to sweet n fruity and DH will stick to beers, maybe mixed liquor drinks. I guess I could always ask the server or bartender for a suggestion! :)

Thank you! I looked up the description of the drinks on the Allears.net menu and I'm leaning towards the Krakatoa punch, Ka-blue-ei, or piranha pool. I love the descriptions of the food menu items and don't know yet which items we would order yet. They all sound so yummy!

The Poke is probably the best thing on the limited menu. I think the poke at Cheesecake factory is better as far as chain-type restaurant type food goes. I had the shrimp tacos and they were decent. The chicken wings were OK. Other than that, I can't comment.

Here is a pic of the wings and poke ...

At trader SAMs I enjoy the hippopatomaitai (sp?) and we like the hamburger with pineapple and the pork flat bread. Have a fantastic time!!

For a fruity drink I like the Piranha Pool at Trader Sam's because it's vodka based. It is not very strong, so may be a good choice for someone who does not drink often.

The prices of all drinks are comparable to drinks at any chain restaurant like Chili's or TGI Friday's - $9+ Beers are between $6-$7 as I recall. The high prices of the specialty drinks reflect the souvenir glass add-on.

For the pool they will have to box your glass up anyway, so you could always just order what you like poolside then order the [empty] glass you want later. We bought ours this way because my kids wanted the glasses that came with drinks I didn't want to drink! :lmao:

I don't usually get the souvenir glasses because we never have room in our suitcases, but I do have a tradition of getting whatever drink it is they serve at Trader Sam's (don't know if they serve it elsewhere or not, but you can definitely get it at the DLH pool) that has the glowing ice cube in it. The ice cube is plastic and has a little battery in it that makes it glow. It just looks so dang festive! It's yours to keep and I always bring my home (it even has an on/off switch, so you can use it later).

The punch has it.

The Louisiana Lemonade at DL get them too.

I would second AliceInDisneyland's suggestion of the Piranha Pool at Trader Sam's. I'm not much of an alcohol drinker, and usually only like the fruity, sweet, slushy drinks, too. The vodka is easy to drink and not off-putting. I took a few sips of my husband's hippopotomaitai and Krakatoa Punch, and I thought the rum-based drinks weren't as easy to enjoy. :confused3

The Piranha Pool didn't come in a special glass, but ask the server and you might be able to buy some of the glasses even if you didn't order that particular drink.

Oh yeah, and even though I'm not much of a drinker, I can't wait to get back to Trader Sam's!!! :thumbsup2

I had a really nice gin and tonic ( ok, a couple of really nice gin and tonics ) at the Carthay Lounge and DH had a flight of whiskeys. The drinks at Trader Sams were strong and I have a good tolerance :thumbsup2

Hi, all!!! OP here!! Currently in DLH cabana & was in GCH cabana Monday.

Here's our take on what DH and I have had so far:
Island moonshine: moonshine, blue curaçao, coconut, pineapple juice, coconut water. DH liked it a lot. I'm having it now & wowza it's too strong for me.

Banana cabana: mango rum, coconut rum, Cyrene de banana, orange & pineapple juice, gloat of grenadine. I had this & it was sweet and yummy!

Ultimate Long Island iced tea.: Bacardi superior rum, titos handmade vodka, Hendricks, Cointreau, sweet n sour, splash coke. DH had this & says it was good.

Grand margarita: Cuervo gold tequila , grand magnet, fresh lime juice, sweet n sour. He's drinking this now.

His fave is moonshine cuz it's strong. Mine is banana cabana. :)
