This courtesey of Screamscape:
We’ve heard a bit more info on a possible update to Space Mountain being considered. We’re returning once again to the rumors of gutting the existing ride and replacing it with a whole new thrill ride... possibly one with inversions that be themed more like the one in Paris. The funny part is that the timing would be just right to gut DL’s Space Mountain and send the pieces to Hong Kong to reuse for their “new” version. Not that anyone has said such a thing to me... it’s a thought though. Anyway... the interesting part of this rumor is it would move the queue to the CircleVision/Rocket Rods building, and use the underground queue to the old Rocket Rods Tower to load the train. From there it would use the old Rocket Rod bridgework once again to send the train down Tomorrowland and into Star Tours before it would hit the launch track area (inside the long empty top floor of the Starcade) and launch the coasters right into the Space Mountain dome at full speed. You would return on a new bit of track that came out of the mountain and went straight back to the CircleVision building. Sounds wild...but almost too wild to be true for Disney to attempt. Plus there would be quite a few logistical nightmares to deal with as well. On the negative side... we’ve heard they are working on all new entertainment options such as an all new version of the Believe fireworks show as well an updated Fantasmic! Then there is always talk about new Parades... but I hope they learned their lesson from Florida’s 100 Years Parades. New parades are nice but are just not enough to get people into the parks.
Sounds interesting, it would also co-incide with the 50th year celebration at DL (assuming they do anything for that...)

"Disneyland is a thing that i can keep molding and shaping. It's a three-dimensional thing to play with. But when i say, 'play with it,' I don't mean that. Everything I do I keep a practical eye toward it's appeal to the public."-Walt Disney Quotable Walt Disney

Sounds cool. at least their thinking of ways of improving. a step in the right direction...........:D

Conceptually speaking it sounds pretty cool. I guess we'll have to wait & see what happens after the budget guys get ahold of the project.

*BobO hopes for B&M*

Me? Well, I think that if RnR at DCA is dead, I think well see the last Vecoma contract coaster to be built there (they were asked to do 3, so far they've done 2, RnR at WDW and DSP, and Space Mountain)

Yes testtrack, go B & M !!!!!!
Sounds good, but can it be done by Dec 1,2002???
I wonder though if they add inversions and other elements to the ride if they will still be able to have dual tracks or just one track??? If just one track im sure the lines would be awful without a fastpass during busy times.

Now maybe they could add some of these elements to the new ride???

Bob O:

Disneyland's Space Mountain is not like Florida's. In DL, there is only one track and not two dual ones. There has always been only one track in California.

wdhatter, thanks for the info, i wasnt aware that Space Mountain wasnt dual tracked in DL!!

DL also has different seating with two people side by side as opposed to WDW which is single file. The best thing IMHO about DL Space Mountain is the soundtrack, which is missing in WDW.

Sounds interesting, but very complex and EXPENSIVE!!!
And it's that last word that leads me to believe that they'lll either not do it...or not do it right.

Sarangel, having new parades and an updated version of Fantasmic is GREAT NEWS!!!! The two main reasons why I go to Disney is for the parades and Fantasmic. :bounce: :bounce: In my opinion, this is what keeps people coming back to the parks. This is what sets Disney apart from the rest of the amusement parks.

Yeah baby!!! Bring on New parades and more Fantasmic!!!!!
