I am planning a trip to DL Paris for when I am in Germany. I don't know French. Is it still possible to get around, or will I be completely lost and confused?...especially since I am traveling by myself.

In DLP the cast members name tags have flags of the languages they speak.
A lot of the shows are in English.
We never had a problem in DLP.
If you do have a cast member that doesn't speak english.
Very easy to find 1 that does.
Be aware what they say about the French
being rude to the Americans is true.

I was at DLP for two days - this past May 27 and May 28, by myself, and I'm from the US. I too was very worried about the whole language issue and the "rudeness" issue.

I know very very little French, but noticed if I greeted any castmember with Bonjour, they would launch into French. If I greeted them with Hello, they would launch into English. Even if I tried to finish a conversation with Merci, they always responded in English (You're Welcome, Have a nice Day, etc.). And they were all very pleasant. Sometimes when I started with Bonjour and then in French asked a basic question like "how much" or some such, the castmember would say (in English) do you prefer French or English (guess my accent was atrocious! :rotfl:

I did not run into one castmember either day at either park that could not speak passable English - I'm sure there may be some, but I did not have any trouble at all.

Most of the shows either have English presenations (check the time guides), or have headphones for English (like Honey I Shrunk the Audience). It was weird using the headphones though because you could still hear the French in the back ground and at times it was hard to separate the two and understand (at least for me!!!). But I watched the Lion King presenation in French and was delighted when the songs were all sung in English even though the rest of the production was in French. I knew the story line though so could follow along anyway - and part of what I wanted to experience was the differences between DLP and WDW in Florida where I visit twice yearly.

Now, I did run into a few "rude" guests and definitely a large number who spoke no English.

I must have been very fortunate ;) but language was NOT my problem!

We had no problem at all not knowing French, not only at DLP, but in the city of Paris as well.

And the French people were lovely...not rude to us (we are American) at all!

I can support what the others have said. I resurrected my schoolgirl French for my first visit, determined to be polite and try to address folk in their own language but the minute I opened my mouth they dropped nicely into English. I suspect my accent is terrible! :rotfl: :rotfl: No castmember was rude to me I hasten to add, it was all done so politely.

We only just got back from DLP and honestly everyone speaks English. My husband speaks French (he grew up in Geneva so had to learn French) and I have absolutely no knowledge whatsoever. Was happy I could speak English and get a great response from everyone in the shops.

You won't have any trouble while you're there, the shop assistants and waiters are very very friendly.

I agree. English is very well spoken and we found the French people to be lovely in both Paris and DLP.

Now we did also take the effort to learn some basic French (a couple weeks of a course on a computer). Everytime we made an attempt at speaking the language, we would usually get responded to in English. So I guess our French wasn't very good, but I think the effort was appreciated.

I agree, we have always found a simple Bonjour, Merci or Au Revoir seems to go a long way. :goodvibes

All of the above!

All the cm's I have ever dealt with all spoke english and they all also spoke another, their own native language. All of the maps are available in most european languages, noticable by the Micky head on the front been in the flag of the country the map is geared towards.

Trying a little french does go along way though!
