Sorry but I just need to vent to you all. I often go to the Disney World Discussions on this and other sites and it just drives me crazy when people put DL down especially when they say they have never even been there. I know that WDW is great but different and DL is the original. Those this bother anyone else or am I all alone here.

No biggie. I just go on to the next thread (though I haven't been on those boards for a while). WDW and DLR are both great, but serve different guests, with different purposes, in different ways.

If it gets you down, just remember how much better DL's isaw, Pirates of the Carribbean, and Fantasmic are. Who stills has Mr. Toad's?:p :p

They don't know what they are missing.

I love both places.

I always tell people, regardless of which coast you are closest to, you must, at least once, visit the parks of the opposite coast. I think if more people did this, they would see that they can be quite different experiences and that there's plenty of room for both.

I think most people think "oh, I've been to the MK, and that's all DL is anyway, so why bother?". They don't bother to research and find out about the fact that it is a resort now, not just one park. Even at that, DL blows away MK.

I know what you mean about the attitude of some people though, I've seen it too on the other boards. It's like some think DL is a step down for them. Like I've said before.....it's thier loss.

Uncle Buck.....Mr. Toad rocks!!!!! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

JenniBarra..... I agree. I've been to both, but my SO hasn't. Even though we both love DLR, our next trip will be WDW so she can experience it and compare the two.

Grog....funny you mentioned "attitude." It seems much more often than not that posters on WDW boards can't do without and must brag about staying in a concierge room.

Somebody posted a poll on one of the other boards here, and it showed what seems to be the most common opinion: Of those who have been to both WDW and DLR, DL ranks as the best park. However, if the choice is between the WDW Resort or DL Resort, most prefer WDW. Doesn't mean DLR isn't a great place, but WDW does have a "few" more options... (4 theme parks, 2 water parks, 6 golf courses, a larger DD, water activities, dinner shows, more restaurants, etc...)

Personally, I agree with hookedup:

I love 'em BOTH!

LOL.... I know what you mean. " We just got back from our third 21 day stay at WDW this year and stayed in the new super ultra deluxe gigantic stupendous resort (concierge level of course) that hasn't even opened yet. We were upgraded from ASMu because there was dust on one of the lamp shades".

I don't begrudge people the right to spend thier money and stay where they want, but sometimes the bragging gets a bit much. It seems to me that the "DLR people" don't brag as much. Maybe because there are so few of us on the DIS :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

I like both for different reasons. It does strike me, however, how superior info available on WDW (both on boards and in books) compared to Disneyland. For example, none of the sites have an up-to-date menu guide for DL and even the Unofficial Guide to DL can't be bothered with restaurant reviews. It just basically tells you there are a lot of dining choices - argh!!!

Being on the east coast now, WDW is easier for us. But, we did go to DL this summer. They did a nice job with the expansion and I think a lot of people are being too harsh about Cal Adventure.

I've been to both, and I have to say that it seems ridiculous to me to say that DL is vastly superior to the Magic Kingdom and that DLR is superior to WDW. WDW has SO much more to offer--four theme parks, water parks, etc. (and don't even get me started on the difference between the two castles!!). And yet, (before all you native Californians blitz me with rotten eggs and tomatoes), DLR has a charm all its own. There's something very special about the original park that Walt built and the smaller size and close proximity of the two parks and DTD. Not to mention that Indiana Jones is probably THE most creative and amazing attraction I've ever experienced! So in a nutshell, I guess what I'm trying to say is that the two resorts are apples and oranges. . . both very magical in their own way, and why waste so much time and cyber space trying to prove which one is best? (particularly if you've only experienced one!!) They're both spectacular, for very different reasons. And they both are magical for one of the same basic reasons. . . Disney. 'Nuff said.

We just enjoyed our first trip to DL after several to WDW and IMO Disneyland Rocks! I fully intend to visit both resorts (somehow...someway  ) this year because I love Disneyland and MGM and Epcot and so on... ;)

Oh by the way, I have never used concierge. :)

I don't really think that's what is being said here. I think the OP, and some others among us, get the impression from other boards that DLR is not worth the time, that it is the lesser of the two, etc. when in reality, as you point out, DLR has a charm all it's own. Both have thier pros and cons when planning a Disney vacation. Some DISers who have never even been seem to treat DLR as "the step-child" of the Disney family (not intended to be a step-child bashing post, as I am one myself ;) )

:) :) :)

Grog,

Here's what you said: "DL blows away MK." That's one of the statements that prompted my sentiments. All I'm trying to say is that DLR and WDW both have wonderful parks and are both a terrific all-around resort for various reasons. Naturally some people prefer one park or one resort over another. But the thing that I find irritating on all of the Disney discussion boards is the people who spend so much time ranting about how one park (i.e., DL or MK) or one resort is superior to the other. Just seems kind of silly to me.

Basically, I think we're probably expressing the same feelings, just in slightly different ways. My bottom line is this: we're all Disney lovers on these boards. . . can't we just quit the sniping at the "other coast's" parks and all just get along? :P

(This from the girl who lives in Texas and has to travel WAY too far to get to either resort, dadgum it!)

Yes, you are right. I misread your last post, where you quoted me. Give me a break, it was 4:00 Am and I was about to head out the door to work ;) I wasn't fully awake yet.

What I meant was if you had to put those two parks side by side, in a sort of comparison test, I think DL would win based on number of rides, types of E-ticket rides, etc. BTW....I do like MK and the rest of WDW even if it doesn't sound that way:)

And yes, I also think we are saying the same things, but in different ways :D :D :D

And speaking as someone who also lives in Texas, I feel your pain when it comes to the distance thing :(

I have to be honest in that I am making my second trip to DL soon. I was not as impressed by DL as by WDW before because of the lack of "buffer" between the park and the city. It sounds to me like Disney has made an effort to address that problem. I am actually apprehensive simply because I have read on the internet so MANY more negative reviews of DL. The internet is particually hard on on DCA and on upkeep overall of the park. It will be interesting to see what I actually think.

Carol,

Here's a piece of unsolicited advice that I REALLY hope you take: forget about all the negativity and bashing you've read on the boards, and go with an open mind. I strongly feel that at Disney (land or World) as in practically every other aspect of life, if you go into it receptive to the magic and expecting to have a good time, you will.

(Climbs back down off her soapbox and walks away muttering, "#$(%! DCA bashers!) :P
