DL hotels

I have a freind going to DL for the first time in august with his family and they were wondering if there is any reasonable decent hotels close to DL. Please let me know.

Yes they should look for a hotel on Harbor Blvd, directly across from the parks. All are basic and clean. They are primarily motels mostly built decades ago. Many offer continental breakfast. All are within a 10 minutes walk of the gates.

I prefer.

The Park Vue Inn
Best Western Park Place
Candy Cane Inn
Ramada Maingate

Do they have a car? Do they have small kids needing to take breaks back to the hotel room during the day?

If needing hotel breaks then a walking distance hotel is certainly desired. The ones listed by skiingfast are the preferred along with Hojo's. The three Disney resorts are pricey but all great if you can afford them especially Grand Californian.

We tend to go against what many others on these forums pick for hotel choices and generally avoid the walkable Harbor hotels. We have no small kids, don't take hotel breaks and have our own car. As such we tend to stay at resorts a few miles away. I find them nicer, much lower cost, free parking and some with very good free hot breakfast. We don't mind the short drive.

You can also find bargains using Priceline or Hotwire for Harbor hotels 1-3 miles away. Hotels we've gotten for well under $100 are Hilton, Red Lion and Crowne Plaza. ART shuttles work great or some are in walking distance to the Toy Story parking lot Disney buses which are free.

As previous poster said, the Harbor blvd hotels are very close. There is also the Tropicana. It is reasonably priced and nice and close. Last year we had our 3 children and it was nice to be able to come back to the hotel mid-day to get a break from the park. We are doing the same this summer, with just the 2 of us. There are also several restaurants right close, McDonald's, IHop, Mimi's, Denny's and Captain Kidds (a buffet).
