which DL hotel would you recommend for a family with a teen and a 3 year old? We are looking to make our 1st trip to CA and would like to use points to minimize the cash upfront expense. Thank you for your feedback.

That depends on how many points you are willing to use!! The Grand Californian is my FAVORITE Disney hotel (I even like it better than Wilderness Lodge)...it is simply STUNNING!!!

Plus the "Storyteller's Cafe" is also my favorite Disney restaurant...I wish they had one just like it in WDW!!! When you go...go for lunch, and get the "Cheddar Melt" (or, something like that). It is a chicken breast on garlic toast with slices of beefsteak tomato and a blend of cheddar and other cheeses melted on top. It is the BEST sandwich I have ever had!!!

If you don't mind spending the points...you HAVE to stay at the Grand Californian...there is no better place at DL.

We liked the Disneyland Hotel when we went last spring (the room was HUGE, and had a sleepable daybed in addition to two double beds), but I think that I would do the GC next time.

I have to agree that the Grand Californian is Beautiful. We just stayed there at the end of August on points and had a great time. I understand, however, points have gone up quite a bit in 2005. Even though, I think if you have the points, stay at the GC. It will be worth it. With a three year old, the closeness to everything and private entrance to CA is a real nice convenience.

Good Luck and have fun planning!:D

Definitely the Grand Californian. The point costs weren't too horrible last time I checked.

Oh, and make sure to plan at least one night out at the Napa Rose. It's often hard to get a table and you might need to take out a second mortgage but a memorable dinner in the beautiful dinning room of one of the finest restaurants in the country is truly priceless.

You really can't go wrong with any of them as they are all maintained to Disney standards. The Paradise Pier just had the whole pool area re-done and it's supposed to be really nice. Just decide which one has the "point" requirements you can live with...and go for it!

DH and I had dinner at Napa Rose (kids liked the kids club). I would highly recommend it as well!

We love the Grand Californian also. Last time we went it was decorated for Christmas and just beautiful.

Our kids are 15 and 6, similar to your kids' age difference, and they don't like to share a bed. When I made a reservation at the GC a few weeks ago, I was able to request a room with a queen bed and a bunk bed. Maybe the other DL resorts have this, I don't know. In any case, it'll be great for us if we actually get one of those rooms.

That said, the points are higher next year. But they're posted on the website now so you can check.

Good luck,
Julie

I figured they would probably increase the points for DL with all the hoopla around the 50th Anniversary. Darn -- We're going next year, too!
