Hello Peeps,

So we get to hit both coasts this year. November we get to go to DL for a convention and December we are going to WDW to celebrate our 20th anniversary:banana:

So the question to you all is related to DL. I searched on here for info and still have a few questions.

1. What is the best way to get from the airport to the hotel with a wheelchair? What is the easiest way to get to places like US and SW?

2. What is the best hotel to stay at? I will be able to get discounts at the Hilton or Marriott because of the convention and can also get a family and friends discount to the DL hotels but which would be better?

3. Does anyone have a recommendation for a DME that will rent a shower chair?

4. Any tips you can give us would also be helpful. I have not been to DL since 1977 and I was only 11 at the time so I don't remember a ton.

TIA:hippie:

Hotels in the DL area are myriad, so you will have to decide what you are looking for to pick a hotel - most are quite close, so there is everything from very basic to presidential suites.

To get anywhere in the area, you will need a car. There is no bus transportation to Universal Studios, and Sea World is more than an hour and a half away. Even the Disneyland Express, which gets you to the resort area from the airport costs something like $99. For that much, you can rent a car and do just as well.

Check out the Disneyland forum here for good hotel and travel info.

We're travelling to LA and Palm Springs in March and I am working on my DH to agree to another DL visit (we took our boys there in 2009, and have been to WDW several times, lucky us!).

We have similar questions as you, because one of our sons uses a wheelchair. I agree that rental car rates are quite good, even for the minivan that we will need (transport w/c, walker, luggage and 5 of us). Last time, we took the Dsineyland resort express which isn't that cheap, but made travelling with the w/c easy. We weren't planning on moving around that much in LA. When you are comparing costs, make sure you consider parking/valet costs at DL and your hotel. For example, we are checking out the Anaheim Hilton and self-parking is $16, valet $22. Cost of parking at DL is $15, I think. You may choose to park at your hotel and take their shuttle, if one is available.

We're struggling with where to stay, because we want to visit Santa Monica, Hollywood etc. We thought about a hotel at the beach, but they seem to be way more expensive than near DL. Perhaps I'll be successful in talking him into it yet..."but honey, the $ we'll save on hotel, we can spend on DL tickets!"
