WDW is our home park (we actually live in FL!!!)

We have never been to DL, we are planning on going for the first time in April to go to Camp Pin-Nee-Haa-Naa!!! So we want to be close by, I believe we will rent a car for a portion of our trip as we've never even been to the west coast.

I have no clue about booking for DL. WDW I can go on for pages, DL I have no clue.

Where to eat, what to see, best deal for room and tickets, to do a package or not?

HELP PLEASE!!! I am so overwhelmed.

Read HydroGuy's write up on DL for the experienced WDW vet, you'll probably find it very helpful.

I've never been to WDW, and been to DL only once, but here's what I remember from my own trip planning:

1. It's not as critical to stay onsite at DL as it is at WDW. There are many hotels within walking distance. Still, you may wish to stay onsite for the full Disney experience, but it is quite a bit more expensive. The Grand Californian is the most expensive, and situated right next to CA park. The Disneyland Hotel is at one end of DTD, within walking distance of both parks. And Paradise Pier Hotel is a bit further than these two, but also easily within walking distance.

2. The two parks are also within walking distance of one another, with only a plaza between the two. We had a rental car for our trip, but it was a total waste of money for us; we used it on the day we arrived (from the airport to the hotel, and to make a grocery store run) and the day we left. Skip the rental car unless you plan on going other places during your stay.

3. The food plan does not save you money like it does at WDW, and obligates you to eating at only certain places within the park. Unless you are the type that would just rather have everything prepaid, skip the food plan and eat where and when you want, whether onsite or in DTD, or elsewhere in Anaheim.

There was one other thing I wanted to mention, but it escapes me... I'm sure more tips are forthcoming from other folks!

where would I find this guide?

We were looking at good neighbor hotels because we have a week long stay at WDW in both Feb and Sept, but we are going so I can visit with friends from the west coast.

We want to go to the Soda Fountain (disney's) which is off site and explore san diego so a car seems critical for us.

soda fountain is in hollywood, right next to the el capitan theater. (i think that's the one you're talking about, right?) it's about 40 minutes away from anaheim. :flower:
