How is the weather? Is it really humid like WDW would be in Aug.? Does it rain a lot? We've never been to CA, so have no idea what to expect.

How are the crowds? We're looking at the first week of Aug., but could push it back more if the crowds seem to thin out more toward the end of the month.

This is a spur of the moment trip and I'm trying to pick a week during the summer, so my daughter doesn't miss school or not much if we go later in the month.

Also what days have the thinest crowds? I'm not sure if we'll be able to stay on-site this trip, since we're booking so late. I'm shooting for it, but in case we're off-site I'd like to have a good game plan for visiting there.

Man planning this trip is hard. I know WDW like the back of my hand, but I forgot what it's like being a newbie to a park and am having a heck of a time planning this one. LOL

TIA,
Pam

We usually travel to Disneyland at one of two times, either the middle part of August (to celebrate our anniversary) or during the early part of December to see the holiday happenings. There's no comparison - it's definitely busier during August than early December, but I've also been there earlier in the summer, and it's even worse. I think the crowds do start to thin out towards the middle to end of August. Go on a weekday if you can manage it - it's better than the weekend.

The last time we went in August, I think the waits were pretty reasonable, and if you use Fastpass, it's even better. The longest lines are usually for Indiana Jones.

If you can't stay on-site, try one of the hotels on Harbor. We stayed at the Fairfield Inn and were very pleased with the value of the room. It's the same distance walk from the main entrance to the Fairfield Inn as the DLH.

Have fun!

Oops, forgot your question about the weather....

We honeymooned @ WDW in August and I can tell you that there is NO comparison! It's definitely much much less humid at Disneyland in August!

There is heat and sometimes it is a moist heat, but it's not the kind of humidity that instantly saps your energy and frizzes/flattens your hair (can you tell I hate humidity? - another reason we go to WDW in the off-season).
