My oldest son and my husband are both Sean. Spelled the right way.![]()
LOL - I always say that too.

My oldest son and my husband are both Sean. Spelled the right way.![]()
So she was trying to make it like "What CM would do this to your son's name?"She thought "Jaymes" was the wrong spelling and was trying to make you feel good (like "What kind of non-spelling CM's have we employed") and put down the CM that made the mistake. Immature, yes. But, I think she was actually trying to make you feel good.
Does that make sense?
I don't think she was trying to insult you at all. It just happened to be that she was commenting on your son's correct spelling.
I am sure she was mortified.
I would let it go.
I have worked with kids for years (I am a children's librarian), and the uncommon/different spellings are more the norm nowadays. You almost have to expect it. The kid with the traditionally-spelled name is actually the unusual one, it seems! When I write kid's names down, I always ask for a spelling and spell it back to them to make sure I got it right.![]()
I don't get what the issue is... it is a weird spelling of James.![]()
If the CM said "weird" then I agree with you, but the OP says the CM said "stupid," which I think is rude.
When my DD was 3, we were at a craft store, and the cashier heard me call her by name. She said, "Is her name Avery?" I told her that it was. She said, "Ugh! I HATE that name! My husband wanted to name our baby Avery, and I was like, EEWWW! It's such a stupid name for a girl!"
Definitely something to keep to herself. But she could have been talking about the incorrect spelling on the brick. Reminds me of the time when I had a doctor's appointment and was running late. A PA in training checked my BP and pulse. Then he said...holy smoke!I told him he might not want to say things like that around patients.

The title said weird
I interpreted this entirely differently. I took the CM's comment to mean "how stupid can the person who made the brick be b/c the correct spelling of the name is right there, spelled correctly. Can't the person who made the acrylic brick read?"
I didn't read it as a slight on your son's name or it's spelling. More like "What idiot who made the brick doesn't double check the spelling?!"
Maybe I'm odd but that's how I interpreted it.
For goodness sake - if you choose to name your kid in an unusual way then you must understand that people will make mistakes. As others have said in that circumstance I would have 'assumed' the 'y' was inserted by mistake...and I would have taken the comment of 'stupid' to refer to the original person taking the order getting it wrong rather than you, as the parent being 'stupid' to spell the name like that. As for complaining....come on!![]()
