DL as "magical" as WDW?

As with all things.... bigger is not necessarily better. pixiedust:

True, but I find it hard to believe DL wouldn't be better if they added EPCOT by monorail and AK. I know we would more likely visit, at least longer anyway.

Now if the add Yacht and Beach and the Boardwalk look out.

We just got back from our second defection to the west in 2 years. My daughter loves DLR a lot more than WDW. But it is possible that's because the monorail takes you from Tomorrowland to Earl of Sandwich in about 5 minutes. ;)

Honestly was not that impressed by Epcot on our recent visit. I like DCA better.

AK is nice but the San Diego zoo has their Wild Animal Park and zoo approx 1 hour and 1.5 hours south of DL respectively. Now, I would love to have Expedition Everest in CA.

Honestly was not that impressed by Epcot on our recent visit. Future World felt like a tired Tomorrowland and WS was nice but is pretty much a collection of stores and restaurants with excellent theming. I like DCA better than Epcot and HS combined.

AK is nice, and surprisingly, it was our second favorite park, but the San Diego zoo has their Wild Animal Park and zoo approx 1 hour and 1.5 hours south of DL respectively. It was going to be pretty challenging for AK to come close to that. Now, I would love to have Expedition Everest in CA.

WDW does have the bubble, but DLR basically has the same amount of rides in 2 parks that WDW has in 4 parks. I love the WDW bubble, the increased planning is ridiculous IMO. I love that I still feel carefree at DLR!

If you can honestly say you would stop Disney (if you had the power) from adding EPCOT and AK (and the 27 resorts) at DL-then I have no problem with your argument. :goodvibes

Granted WDW has more choices, but you can not be any more in a bubble than staying at GRand Californian. Your hotel opens into a theme park or Downtown Disney and both park entrances are off of DTD. We don't have to board a bus or get the car to go anywhere. A bus defines leaving the bubble to me.

Even DLH keeps you in the bubble. Paradise Pier is a stretch and tough to justify to me. The only way you are staying in the bubble at either park is to stay on site.

And... I am going to say it... DLR weather is way, way better.

As far as Epcot and AK, I think it is more accurate to say that DLR has as many rides in two parks as WDW has in four. I don't find the question of me "stopping construction" clarifying. I feel like we have a full vacation at DLR with our two parks. The only two attractions I wish we would import is EE and 7DMT.

Don't get me wrong. We really liked WDW.

Annually maybe-not in the winter when us poor souls vacation-at least not on daily average over 150 years. Summer is awesome up here. So it depends when you visit.

Just got back from a week of glorious southern California weather. One day in 8 we had rain. The rest were postcard perfect. We hit a cold snap there last December, but we also hit one of those in FL a few years ago.

Agree. We had nights in the low 40's at WDW Nov16-18. That is entirely possible at DLR on occasion too.

However, in 45 years of DLR, I have never owned a Mickey poncho until I visited WDW. They do sell them on the few rain days that we have but it is a rare occasion that there is rain outside of Dec-Jan--Feb and we have storms that clear (rare to have a rainy "month").

Now, that does not mean it never rains in SoCal but a simple comparison of rainfall amounts tells a tale. Daily rain (including hurricanes) is a regular fact of life at WDW for many, many days if the year so much so that rain prep is a fact of most WDW vacation plans.

Also Humidity is rarely a factor at DL. We do get heat in the summer but not nearly as oppressive, IMO. It was interesting to see that a water bottle on a belt was a part of WDW costumes for CM. completely necessary in FL. I don't remember seeing that at DL ( though it makes sense for anyone working outside).

Lastly, (and not weather related) but the sulfer smell in the water was bothersome to me throughout our visit. Places like Splash Mountain were a distraction because of the smell.

Honestly, I love DLR for what it is. It doesn't need to be the same as WDW to be just as magical. I absolutely would stop Disney from adding 27 resorts to DLR. I *love* the fact that DLR is smaller than WDW. I love being able to walk from park to park in 5 minutes, as opposed to being on a bus for 30 mins or more (or the monorail).

Aside from the fact that it would be impossible for Disney to construct an Epcot, AK, and 27 resorts in Southern California, I agree with everything you said.

These are my feelings exactly. I love DLR just the size it is. Sure, I wouldn't mind them updating and replacing a few rides, but I much, much prefer it to WDW, and I knew WDW long before I knew DLR.

But I will say that I love the fact that I can take the monorail around WDW withought having to buy a ticket, which isn't a possibility at Disneyland. I love taking the Epcot monorail at night.:goodvibes

Disney does own the land for a 3rd gate at DL and during DCA planning they somewhat promised Aneheim the 3rd gate (I think it's currently the Toy Story parking lot)

But, yes a Safari or sprawling World Showcase like WDW obviously can never happen.

If they do intend on building a 3rd gate, they should build something completely unique to DLR. Not just copy what WDW already has in place.
