DL AP to Premier?

We have DL AP recently purchased and very new to it. It's expiration is on 1/5/2014. We're planning on going to WDW on 1/1/2014 and planning to upgrade to the Premier passport for that trip once we've arrived. I wanted to find out if the upgrade date will reflect the new expiration of 1/1/2015 meaning that we have the rest of 2014 by only paying the difference between AP and premier?

when you upgrade to the Premier pass, it keeps the same expiration date, it doesn't give you a whole additional year, so you'd only have the Premier until 1/5/2014, not the whole year.

We upgraded from a DL AP to the Premier pass in 2010 (we originally bought the Premier pass at DL but had so many problems trying to use it - difficulty getting in at the gates, fastpasses, discounts- that we downgraded to just a regular DL AP). I would suggest having your receipts readily available when you do the upgrade as well so they know exactly what the difference is; with all our transactions it was very confusing to make sure that we weren't overpaying and the "systems" aren't linked so when we upgraded at WDW, they couldn't pull our "file" from DL.

Anyway, good luck with your transactions! Having the premier pass was awesome for us- we did 7 trips altogether when we had it!

On any ticket upgrade, the day of first use is the date the first ticket in the upgrade chain was first used. So if your current DLR AP expires 1/4/14, the PAP would also expire 1/4/14.

However, you can purchase a new DPP at WDW on 1/1/14 and you can also use it all year at DLR.

Before you go to WDW, go to DLR in late 2013 (within 45 days of your expiration date). Tell them you want to renew your DLR AP (and get on the monthly payment plan). Then tell then you want to upgrade your DLR AP to a Premier AP. You pay the difference IN FULL but keep the monthly payment plan on the DLR portion of the cost (you lose your renewal discount).

A friend did this when her AP expired in June 2012. She renewed it in May 2012 (DLR Premium AP) and then upgraded right after to the Premier.

You can renew/upgrade your AP within 45 days of expiration (they will sometimes stretch it out to 50 if you ask nicely as I had to do this for my AP in May 2012 [went to WDW in mid-May 2012 and the 45 days would have been the day we flew to FL]).

Your Premier AP will then be good til 1/5/14.

When you get to WDW, whichever park you go to, you need to take your Premier AP to guest relations so that it can be activated for use at WDW (with your finger scan). We went to Animal Kingdom our first day and couldn't get through the turnstiles. The cast member looked at our APs, didn't recognize them, said to go to guest relations/ticketing booth. They activated it and it worked for the 2 weeks we were there. Came back to DLR, it still worked

Cheshire is the Ticketing Guru but what I said above works (did it in May). I would not wait to go to WDW to get a new AP (since the computers aren't linked, you'd have to pay for your pass in full!)
