Hello everyone

As the title suggests, I'm addicted to Disneyland but I have never been to WDW. My very first trip will be in January... followed by another in February!

My trip in January is a short one and will be mostly filled with things pertaining to the half marathon. My mother, brother, and I all run the Disneyland half marathon and really want that Coast-to-Coast medal! Because of the running, the trip will not be filled with Disney. We arrive early Thursday morning, run Saturday, and leave on Thursday. We have three reservations: La Hacienda (Thursday dinner), Tusker House (Friday breakfast), and Tony's Town Square (Saturday dinner). We are staying at Coronado Springs. The trip will be very low-key so I won't be posting much about it. Unless I specifically state that a post is about the January trip, everything posted in this thread will be about the February trip.

Here's us after the DL half last year:

The second trip is a special trip I'm taking with my BFF Alex as a special gift from my mom for my college graduation. Here's Alex and I at Disneyland:

This is from about four years ago, we'll both be 22 for this trip, but we look pretty much the same!

So I'm not really sure if anyone is reading this but I do find it nice to have a place to officially write down my plans so I'm going to keep doing it.

Here's the basic facts:

Who: Me (Nicole) and Alex, the two Disneyland addicts

What: An awesome trip to WDW!

When: February 2nd -- 7th, 2011

Where: The Poly & The Contemporary

Why: We both just graduated college

How: My incredibly generous mother is gifting me a trip before I have to enter "the real world"!!

Next: To dining plan or not to dining plan?

I'll start this post of with a picture. I posted this in the Disneyland section because that's where it was taken, but I think it really captures our spirit!

Popcorn and double strawberry margaritas are our version of Disney heaven.

The big question after deciding we were taking the trip was whether or not we should add the dining plan. We're staying deluxe so the percentage off was a better deal than free dining so it was a complicated decision. We are also Premier passholders so unless AP rates come out for our dates (please, please Disney gods! :worship:) we would also have to buy a ticket.

If we did get the dining plan, we would have to go Deluxe. We both enjoy table services meals and feel like many of them are part of the Disney experience (rather than taking time away from Disney).

Ultimately we decided not to go with the dining plan. After many many calculations with what we thought we would order it kept coming out pretty even. The main draw of the dining plan was the ability to pre-pay for it and not have to worry about the expenses once there. However, it also felt restrictive... for example, we'd like to go to Whispering Canyon Cafe but none of the entrees appeal to me. The BBQ Pork Spring Rolls and the Southwestern Chicken Soup sound awesome though... paying OOP gives me the option to making two appetizers a meal while the dining plan doesn't.

In addition, with our passes we can get a Tables in Wonderland card. Since this would give us a discount on food AND alcohol (which if you didn't catch from the above photo, is something we enjoy... and WDW has so many awesome sounding drinks!) this comes out to be the better deal.

Also, as a way of "pre-paying" for our meal, we're planning on buying Disney gift cards throughout the time leading up to our trip, then combining them onto one before we leave. This can then become our dining only card, and we won't have to worry about that expense since it will already be payed for!

I thought this was a genius idea

Next: Our current itinerary! I like it but I'm pretty sure it will change a LOT before our trip... :rotfl:

Okay finally, time for a plan! Comments, thoughts, and tips are highly appreciated!

Day 1
Day one is pretty laid back. We arrive at 4:45PM at MCO and are taking the Magical Express to the Poly. After we check in and get to our room, first thing we need is a coconut drink! Lapu lapu's on the beach while watching Wishes sounded like a great first night to me. After, we have a reservation at 'Ohana's for 8:30PM. Then it's bedtime; we have an early morning tomorrow.

Day 2
This day looks like it will be one of my favorites! Breakfast will be either early room service or grabbing something from Captain Cook's. Personally I'm planning on some Tonga Toast! Then it's off to Epcot for the 8:30AM Around the World at Epcot Segway tour! Definitely excited for this one. Then it's time to head to Future World and pick up some fastpasses for Soarin' or Test Track and maybe do some of the other things before a lunch reservation at Via Napoli. After lunch we'll do whatever we missed in Future World and walk around the countries before a dinner reservation at Le Cellier at 7:25PM. We're hoping to get out of there in time to grab a spot somewhere for Illuminations.

Day 3
This day is a little sad, since we have to do a half day at Animal Kingdom and the other half at Hollywood Studios. But we do what we must. We have early breakfast reservations at Kona Cafe (macadamia nut pancakes since hopefully the day before will have Tonga Toast in it) and hope to make it to AK by rope drop. We're not big stage show people so hopefully we'll hit everything we want to by 12:30PM. First pick up fastpasses for Expedition Everest then run to the Safari! After we'll explore as we want. Then we'll head towards DHS, where we have a reservation at Sci-fi for 1:25PM (I think!)... I really want to try those onion rings, as well as the "Space Monkey" adult milkshake (YUM) and the peanut butter chocolate cake, which could pose a problem! Does anyone know if I could order an "adult" milkshake to-go at the end of a meal or if I have to drink it before I leave? After exploring DHS we have dinner reservations at Boma... those zebra domes look and sound awesome!

Day 4
First thing this morning we're checking out of the Poly.
We're finally going to the Magic Kingdom! Yay! With my infinite magical reservation-finding powers :wizard: I managed to book Cinderella's Royal Table for breakfast at 8:05AM on a day when the park opens at 9:00AM about 140 days in advance. We're so pumped! I get to eat in Cinderella's castle! princess:
Afterwards we're free to do MK as we see fit. We'd like to hit Space and Splash (if open and not too cold!), as well as Pirates and Haunted to see what's different, as these are some of my favorite rides at DL. I'm also abnormally excited to ride the Magic Carpets! We have lunch reservations at the Plaza where I intend to consume my very first banana split. :yay: For dinner I think we'll grab some corn dog nuggets from Casey's Corner while waiting for the parade and/or fireworks, because those look awesome too!
Afterwards, we're headed to the Contemporary to check in and get our new room

Day 5
Today we're just grabbing breakfast on the way out the door as we're spending today at Universal Orlando and Islands of Adventure. First stop: Harry Potter! After that, who knows. We're debating whether or not we want to buy those front-of-the-line pass things. Does anyone have experience with these? Are they worth it? Would you buy them again?
After UO/IOA we'll head back to the hotel and watch Wishes from the room (did I mention we're staying Theme Park View?) before taking the boat to Wilderness Lodge for dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe (deep dish bourbon pecan pie? YES PLEASE!). Then it's time to head back to the Contemporary for our last night at WDW :sad1:

Day 6
This is our very last day. We're planning on heading to Downtown Disney for breakfast at Wolfgang Puck Express before exploring for the remainder of our limited time. Our flight leaves MCO at 2:45PM so I expect we'll have to be on the ME by 11:45AM. SO SAD!

Well, there you have it. What do you guys think?

We added an extra day!

Well, after much debate, we decided we really didn't want to have to cram AK and DHS into one day so we added an extra day. To compensate, we are now staying ONLY at the Poly, GV. This way it cuts down a little on the added expense of an extra day. Bye bye my beautiful Contemporary :sad1:

On the plus side, I did save $3.00 by switching my Southwest return flight from Monday to Tuesday. Of course, I can only use that money on another Southwest flight, which I don't plan on taking, but still. Maybe I'll put it towards EBCI on the return trip?

Anyway our plan now looks something like this:

Day 1: Arrival
Arrive 4:45PM
Check in Poly
Lapu Lapu on the beach during fireworks
'Ohana 8:30PM

Day 2: Epcot
Captain Cook's or Room Service breakfast
Around the World on a Segway at Epcot tour, 8:30AM
Lunch at Via Napoli 12:45PM
Dinner at Le Cellier 7:25 PM

Day 3: Animal Kingdom
Tusker House breakfast, 8:05AM
Tour AKL, lunch at a CS (either Pizzafari of Flame Tree)
Dinner at Boma, 5:45PM
Depending on how much time Boma takes, we may head to Downtown Disney afterwards

Day 4: Magic Kingdom
Breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table, 8:05AM
Lunch at the Plaza, 12:25PM
Dinner will probably be Casey's while waiting for the parade/fireworks

Day 5: Hollywood Studios
Breakfast at Kona Cafe, 7:30AM
Lunch at Sci-fi, 12:45PM
Fantasmic! at 7:00PM, then head over to Epcot
Dinner at Coral Reef, 8:30PM

Day 6: Universal Orlando/Islands of Adventure
Breakfast at Grand Floridian Cafe, 7:15AM
Day at UO/IOA
Dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe, 7:45PM

Day 7: Depart
Our flight isn't until 3:30, so I thought we'd spend the morning at Downtown Disney before leaving on the ME (I expect around 12:30PM)

Hi Nicole! Subscribing! Followed you over from the DL Boards! :cool1:

Can't wait to hear about your upcoming trip! DBF and myself are planning our first trip to WDW, but not until Januarty 2012! Boooo

Anyway, I will really look forward to hearing your opinions on things! I especially enjoy that you like margaritas - so I will hold your opinion highly! :rotfl: No Disney trip is complete without a margie!

Welcome! Looks like you're the only one here so it might get lonely... though I prefer the term "cozy" :rotfl:

Yes, my mother tried to instill in me an appreciation for a good margarita since a few years before I could legally drink. She even took me for my first legal drink when I turned 21 last year... a frozen strawberry margarita at DCA :thumbsup2 I saw a pic on these boards of something I'm really looking forward to trying on my WDW trip, let me see if I can find it...

Found!

A Margarita Flight! Some were nasty, some were yummy, all were expensive. $18 :scared1: I'm glad I tried it once, but that was a bit expensive for my taste.

Sounds yummy :yay:

On a side note... today marks 100 days until my first trip (for the half)!!! So exciting!!! :woohoo: :dance3:

Today marks my countdown entering double digits! 98 days until I get on the plane that will bring me to the World and 99 days until I'm actually there! I'm sure it will be the longest 99 days of my life :rotfl:

YAY!! :dance3:

Okay I also posted this as a stand alone thread because I wanted some opinions.

Today I started feeling a little guilty about staying at the Poly, rather than, say, Pop Century. Let me give a little background first.

My best friend and I are addicted to Disneyland... we live about an hour away and go maybe twice a month, and we have annual passes. This year I'm taking my first trip to WDW for the half marathon in January, though it will be a short trip and I don't think I'll be able to do much. However, upgrading my DL pass to the Premier pass was only a few dollars more than buying a four day WDW parkhopper so... I went with the pass :thumbsup2

Anyway, my friend and I both graduated college this year. I also just got accepted into nursing school. My mother has graciously decided to gift me a trip to WDW in February, with the thought that if all goes as planned, I'll start working right after nursing school, and I already have the pass for this year. With the help of my grandmother, I've put myself through school, so her gift is a little larger than it would have been otherwise.

Instead of planning with me, my mom gave me $5,000 for the trip... and I can keep whatever is left over (yeah, she's pretty awesome :worship:). Since this is seriously a once-in-a-lifetime trip, and something my friend and I have been dreaming about since we first met, I wanted to go all out. We're spending six nights at the Poly (standard view) and eating at places such as CRT and Le Cellier (though not on the dining plan). The trip will cost roughly $3,000 (including room, airfare, food, and some money budgeted in for a few souvenirs for both of us) leaving me left over with $2,000... so I'm not spending it all.

I just keep thinking about how I could save $1,000 by having us stay at Pop. I'm putting myself through nursing school and although I have money saved already, it would go far to allowing me a more comfortable financial cushion while I'm in school. But on the other hand, I know I'll be disappointed if I have to cancel "the dream," I don't think we'll get a chance to go again, just the two of us, for a looong time, if at all, and this money was a gift meant to be spent on the trip. I just don't know what to do :confused3

I know this makes me sound like a privileged brat, but I know how lucky I am to be able to do this. I know that having to decide what to do with a $5,000 gift is a problem many people wish they had but that doesn't make this any easier.

Sorry this is so long. I guess I'm really just looking for some advice... would you spend the extra money to be able to have a dream trip before you enter the "real world"? :lmao: Or would you take a budget trip to have more left over?

Thanks :scratchin

I just followed you over from the resort board.

I can't really give you advice about the Poly/Pop dilemma. They are both on my list of places to stay. I am going to have to say that if my mom gave me the money to spend on the trip, I would most likely spend it on the trip and go for the Poly. It seems as though you are in a good spot and have enough to make it through nursing school and if that is the case go for it.

On the other hand I went through radiography school for two years and I ended up needed much more than I planned so I could see your desire for a bigger cushion. Plus Pop looks fun.

:confused3Not much help am I?

No matter which you pick you will have fun. I think I lean towards the Poly.

Sounds like you & your friend will have a blast!

Good luck with your resort decision. I have to say Pop Century is a TON of fun! I have always had very good luck with bus service from Pop also. It sounds like you won't be spending too much time at the resort. I do however also love the Poly. Would you consider a split stay with some nights Pop to save $$$ and a few at Poly or CR?

On your daily planning I think I would try for DTD after Boma and then add an extra park day on the last day. I love spending my last morning at MK and getting in a few last rides.

OH and are those ghost Mickeys popcorn buckets? Too cool! I've got a ton of popcorn buckets from WDW but none are that cool.

Hi and welcome... I hope you'll come hang out a little popcorn::
In the program I was accepted everything is included, plus I was able to get a small scholarship that I did not expect, so I think I'm pretty set money-wise for school. I've also been paying my own way for a while now so I don't expect any other surprise expenses. I'm trying to stay as budget minded as possible but really... who can say no to the Poly? :lmao:

A poster on my other thread suggested a split stay between Pop and the Poly, and I think it sounds like a pretty good idea so I'm starting to look into it.

We were thinking about doing DTD after Boma, but we aren't sure we'll have enough time to do everything we wanted. I think we'll probably end up visiting that day (one reason the Boma reservation is a little early), then play it by ear. We'll both have the annual pass so if we do go into a park on our last morning we can... we don't have to decide right now.

And yes, they are ghost Mickey popcorn buckets!! Aren't they the cutest? I got them at Disneyland two weeks ago. I'm not a popcorn bucket collector or anything but I had to have one of these. I was lucky to get them when I did too... they're having some issues with them (some of them don't stay shut along the sides of the body) and pulled them, though they are supposed to be back sometime in the next two weeks. Mine's sitting on my mantle right now in the middle of my Halloween decoration pirate:

Is the thought of doing a split stay completely unappealing to you?

If not, you could do half the days at Pop and half at Poly. That way, you save a little $$, but still get a taste of the dream! However, I understand that the thought of moving resorts is not for some people. :goodvibes

And - if you decide to stick with Poly for the whole trip - don't feel guilty!!! Have a blast! These are memories that will last a lifetime!

OKAY, WE HAVE MADE OUR FINAL RESOT DECISION! For now, and least....

After much thought and help from other board members (:disrocks:) we've officially decided on a split stay between Pop and Poly. This way I save about $500 but still get to experience some Poly magic pixiedust:

We've also rearranged some of our schedule as a result of the switch to Pop for the first three nights. We've canceled our reservation for 'Ohana reservation on our first night since we're not staying at the Poly quite yet. We also canceled our reservation at WCC on Sunday and switched it to 'Ohana. WCC appealed to me mostly for the deep dish bourbon pecan pie (I think I'd have to eat that pie in private ;)) but after Universal I think we'd rather chill at our own resort.

We are, however, looking to possibly do an Illuminations cruise on arrival night. It isn't a MUST so I think I'll just look on the boards to see if someone wants to share rather than try to snag one myself :wizard: If it works, that'd be AWESOME, but if not, it wouldn't be a big deal.

SO, our brand new schedule looks like this:

Day 1: Arrival
Check-in at Pop
Possible Illuminations cruise :goodvibes

Day 2: Epcot
Around the World at Epcot Segway tour (SO excited!)
Early lunch at Coral Reef
8:00PM dinner at La Hacienda (hoping for good view of Illuminations)

Day 3: Animal Kingdom
Early breakfast at Tusker House
Early dinner at Boma
Possible DTD exploration

Day 4: Magic Kingdom
Check out of Pop
Early breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table
Lunch at the Plaza
Dinner from Casey's while staking out a spot for parade/fireworks
Check-in at Poly

Day 5: Hollywood Studios
Quick breakfast from Captain Cook's
Lunch at Sci-fi
Fantasmic! (7:00PM show)
8:45PM dinner at Le Cellier (I left enough time to get here from Fantasmic, right?)

Day 6: Universal
Early breakfast at Grand Floridian Cafe
Universal!
Late dinner at 'Ohana

Day 7: Last Day :sad1:
Breakfast from Kona
Open -- either more DTD, whichever park we want, or sleep in and enjoy the resort

What do you guys think?

I found out today that there is actually a walkway between the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian. Which is awesome! So I moved my Monday morning reservation to 7:00AM... it was previously at 7:15 in order to leave enough time to get there using the monorail. I was sad there was no spot to put in a celebration, but I guess the "What Will You Celebrate?" promotion will be over so whatever.

Later I went into my reservations to cancel my 7:15AM Grand Floridian and all of my reservations, except the new one I made this morning, are GONE. :scared1: Okay. It will be fine. This is me not freaking out. :rolleyes1

I have all my confirmation numbers and tried pulling them up that way, but still got nothing. The first time I tried, it said it couldn't bring it up. The second time, I got an error page. I'm hoping this is just some glitch and that it will all turn out fine.

If they really are gone I'm going to be MAD. I had a CRT breakfast and a Le Cellier dinner. I already tried making new reservations just in case and of course, nothing. But like I said... I am NOT FREAKING OUT yet. Yet.

I'm also sick. Not strep but I have no voice! I don't know whats up. I figure I'll wait to call Disney about my reservations so I can yell if I need to :rotfl:

I haven't updated recently, because I've been too busy making so many dang trips to Disneyland :thumbsup2 Well that, and I was sick. But that's not important.

I got picked to go to the Disney Parks Blog's ElecTRONica Meet-Up last Thursday. For those who don't know, ElecTRONica is like a dance party on the weekends at DCA. There's a special 20 minute show and they teach you a dance routine, then there's a DJ and glow drinks all night. There's also performances by Laserman, which is literally a guy who does insane things with lasers, as well as a copy of Flynn's arcade from the first movie, and a 3D preview. For the meet-up, 1,500 people + 1 guest each were invited to attend on Thursday after the park closed to the public. They also had props from the movie, a special token, and a chance to meet the writers. I sooo wanted to take my dad, since he loves Tron and took me to opening night of ElecTRONica, but he was out of town :sad2: Instead, I went without him :lmao: but plan on giving him the token, a toy identity disc, the card the writers signed, a Disney Parks Blog pin (since he collects pins), and tickets to the opening day of the movie as a pre-Christmas/Thanksgiving gift :goodvibes

My family and I also went to Mickey's Halloween Party last Friday and I thought I'd share a picture, since our costumes were clearly the most creative, most amazing, most all-around awesome ever:

IMG_4380.jpg

There were 5 of us in all, but this is just me, my brother (15) and my mom. We found these shirts for like $8 at Kohl's. We got soooo many comments for such a simple costume, it was insane! We were also surprised we didn't see anyone else wearing them, since it was cheap, easy, and found at Kohl's. But fun nonetheless.

Funny story: as you can see from the picture, I don't really look 22 (but I am, I swear! :rotfl:). We had decided to stay at the DLH the night of the party so we didn't have to drive back home at midnight the Friday before Halloween (which could have been scary, especially since we have to go right through LA :scared1:). When we got there, they had us down as 3 adults and 1 child, instead of the 2 adults and 1 child we really were (my dad was still out of town). I was with my mom checking in (since I had made the reservation) and my brother was off doing something else. When we told the CM we were two adults and one 15 year old, he started talking to ME, saying I'm a child on hotel reservations but would need an adult ticket... clearly thinking I was the 15 year old! Stuff like this happens all the time I just have to laugh now :rotfl2: It might be annoying now, but I know I'll appreciate how young I look soon enough!

As a parting gift, I'm leaving you with a picture of some Halloween cookies I made. I'm very proud of them, seeing as how I have ZERO artistic or baking skills. I'll be back later today or tomorrow with some WDW planning updates.

IMG_4377.jpg

If you can't tell, there's two eyes, a bat, a tombstone, a mickey head, a cat, Jack Skellington, a vampire, a witch's hat, a spider, a skeleton, and a ghost :goodvibes

I recently found out that there will be a dance/cheer competition at Hollywood Studios the day I was planning to go to Hollywood Studios. As a former "classical" dancer (I studied ballet/tap/jazz, etc, for 18 years) these peppy people annoy me to no end. :dance3: The annoyance factor, plus increased crowds, plus it being a Fantasmic! night, convinced me that I needed to change plans. :crowded: Since I'm at Disneyland so often I don't really care about seeing F!

So, without further ado, I present my new schedule...

Day 1: Arrival
Flight lands 4:45PM
Check in at Pop!
Dinner at Wilderness Lodge

Day 2: Animal Kingdom
8:05AM Breakfast at Tusker House
5:45PM Dinner at Boma
Possible visit to Downtown Disney (depending on energy level)

Day 3: Hollywood Studios
Check out of Pop!
11:45AM Lunch at Sci-Fi
Walk to Epcot
7:45PM Dinner at Rose & Crown
Check in to Poly

Day 4: Magic Kingdom
8:05AM Breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table
9:30PM Dinner at California Grill

Day 5: Epcot
8:30AM Around the World Segway tour
11:40AM Lunch at Coral Reef
8:45PM Dinner at Le Cellier

Day 6: Universal
7:30AM Breakfast at Kona Cafe
Universal/Islands of Adventure Day
9:00PM Dinner at 'Ohana

Day 7: Departure :sad1:
7:30AM Breakfast at 'Ohana
Open morning: short park visit or DTD
On Magical Express by 12:45PM for 3:45PM flight

So... thoughts? I'd appreciate any opinions, especially since it will be my first real visit and I can't be sure it would even be possible to follow my schedule :lmao:

Greetings from another DL addict! :)

My DH and I did an "adults-only" trip last year during Marathon Weekend. You may have read about the coldest temps ever?!! :headache:

Anyway, your plan sounds great! Although I have to say, POP! is not on my must-do list. One thing I did want to mention, was the IROE is totally not worth it, IMO. There are better places to sit and enjoy a Grey Goose slushie while enjoying IROE, IMO.

We did our first trip to WDW in 2006 and stayed at the Poly for 6 days. It was :cloud9:!

Can't wait to hear about your first impressions! We were blown away! :thumbsup2

Oh, and I love that you're ending your trip with breakfast at 'Ohana. It's our traditional farewell meal. :lovestruc

I heard about the weather last year... scary!! It finally got cold here this week and I have not been enjoying training outside. Then I think about running super early in the morning in January... and think about last year's weather... and then decide this coast-to-coast thing was a terrible idea :lmao:

We were going to stay at the Poly all 6 nights but spending two nights at Pop saved too much money to resist. After much debate we've decided to get the DDP and the money we save will easily pay for the upgrade to the deluxe plan.

I'm so excited to get their I can't even explain... I check my countdown every day, and everyone I know is so tired of me talking about it :hyper:
