HI :cool1:

We have decided to go with a DJ (I think) and I emailed my EM to ask how this works. I wasn't sure if they book it, or if there are outside people we have to choose from, or if we need a playlist, or what? I have asked a couple times and haven't heard back. No biggie really, I know they're busy. I'm a planner, though, and want to have things all laid out and ready so that when they are ready to respond, I have the answers :) Can someone help me by explaining the whole DJ process?

Do we pick one or do they pick one?
Does DFTW supply them or is it an outside person?
Who do you recommend?
Do you give them a playlist, just a few songs you like, or what?

Thanks a bunch!!! :goodvibes

Hi Karen! I cannot really help you, but wanted to say those are good questions. I have been thinking about the same things. I am pretty sure that DFTW picks someone for you though. Maybe you can request someone :confused3 Hopefully we'll get some answers :)

I think I read in someone's trip report that a DJ got in touch with them about 30 days prior to the wedding to talk about music, etc. I think the EM should schedule it for you but you probably have to confirm with them.

For her reception, my girlfriend burned an entire playlist on a CD and gave it to the DJ to play throughout the reception. Alternatively, I've heard of people just telling the DJ the type of music they like and leaving it up to him. It depends on how much control you want. When it comes my time, I will probably just give him a CD with our music to make sure he only played music we liked and wanted to dance to!

I hope that helps! Good luck with the planning. I can't wait until my 8 month mark so I can stop lurking so much and start planning in earnest! :thumbsup2

You book the DJ through Disney. Once your EM knows you want one they will assign one out. We had Charles Miles and loved him. He was fabulous, he had my 87 year old grandmother dancing. That is what I call success!!!

Hopefully I can help with this!
Our EM picked one- I am not sure if it was based on availability or their preference- she said ours was her favorite.
I know gratuity isn't included which is a question I asked.
We were unsure what songs we wanted so he sent us a play list and we worked from that. If there are songs you definitley want/hate, tell them. I think you can provide your own playlist, but we didn't have one so we let him pick except for a few songs we chose.
I didn't get connected with him until two weeks before the wedding- which was hard for me to swallow (I like these things done in advance).
My suggestion is to put in writing (e-mail) everything you want (reminders about announcing gust book, etc.). We had Scott. He was great, but due to my disorganization, a few things got missed.
Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone! This is going to drive me crazy. 2 weeks before the wedding :scared1: :scared1: That is a planner type person's nightmare!! Here I am making playlists and I have almost 5 months left :rotfl: Something must be wrong with me :rotfl:

Gratuity should be included in everything including the DJ. I was told that Disney took care of all of it and if you wanted to add to it you could. Our DJ called me and we walked through the introductions, and what we wanted played when, as well as what we didn't want to be played. Personally, I drew the line at anything by any alleged molester of children...he got my drift. I wanted there to be something for everyone and for it to be fun! It was really a success. A good DJ will be able to read the crowd and make adjustments to get everyone involved based on the basic framework you provide.

We also had Charles Mailes and he was fabulous!! He had everybody up and dancing - even had us doing a conga line through the convention centre!! - we did get some strange looks from the other convention in there LOL!! Im really glad we chose to have a DJ - it really made the reception!
