DIY Room decorating tips and restrictions?

Thanks for your replies. However if you read my request above you will see I am looking for a reference about DELUXE resorts, not the DVC. Does anyone have a source for the deluxe resorts? A link to an official policy or official response would be appreciated, not just being told to google it, or a bus driver said it, etc.

I am thinking of doing something in Oct and I am trying to find out if it's allowed. I will probably just end up calling.

Thanks!

You will not talk to the resort. All call go to call center and the answers you will get are famous for being wrong.
Ask yourself if you would be happy if guests in you're house would decorate you're room, put glue or tape on the wall paper, hang stuff at the curtains and ruin the room.

No, I spoke to guest services today. Their response was that there are no rules that prohibit anything being displayed on the doors of the deluxe resorts, as long as there is nothing displayed that could be offensive to anyone, bad language, offensive graphics, etc. The display does not or will not harm the finish on the door, etc. That it does not obstruct the flow of movement through the hallways. It does not leave litter in the hallway, glitter falling off etc. That it is removed completely at the end of your stay. I did not get anything " in writing" and I did not speak to any resort directly. The CM did put me on hold before she came back with answer. YMMV.

I don't think anyone wants to cause damage to the room. Actually, it seems the opposite, that everyone posting seems more concerned about not doing any damage. I don't think anyone is gluing or stapling or nailing or even taping anything. Personally, I would never do anything that would damage my room. I'm confident that Disney would charge anyone that caused damage and the majority of people inquiring about decorating know that.

Glad to hear this - so it is only the dvc's where decorating is not allowed. I decorated my door at the Poly and nobody said anything, also at Pop Century. I used magnetic tape which I purchased at Walmart - just cut it into strips and put it on the back of my signs.

this is one of my favorites:

You did not talk to guests service ,you talked to a call center. They just give you the answer you like to hear.
As soon as I would see any trash on the doors in the resort I stay I would file a complaint.

As for the room I would make a big stink if I would get a room were there would be signs of using glue, tape or hooks. I will not pay 700 Dollars per night for a room were the glue and stains from a previous guest caused damage.
In the ten years we stay Deluxe we never ever saw a door decorated. If you would decorate you're door you would stick out like thrash.
Again I have to ask. Will you be happy if a guest damages a room in you're house??????

Check out these packages from the Disney Florist that include a door sash and wall banner along with other items. http://www.ftdfloristsonline.com/disneyfloralandgifts/pages/birthdaywishes/display

Wow - I see you are earning your ears on the Dis boards. Most of us try to express our opinions nicely. And in my opinion a decorated door does not stick out like trash. To reiterate some of the OPs - they are asking how to decorate their rooms without using tape, hooks or glue, so they will not damage the room.

Magnetic tape is only sticky on the decoration part - it is a magnet on the side that goes on the door - ergo- no stain or mess.

I don't know who the OP spoke with but I do know you can call Disney and ask to speak to Guest Services so we really don't know that she spoke to a call center.

Anytime you call Disney, you get a call center that identifies itself as what you are calling.

Maybe you could give me an answer. Do YOU like it when a guest trashes a room in you're house?
Why is it no problem to ruin a room in a Disney resort?

Why hang things? A couple of balloons (unless you are at AKL or AKV - no balloons permitted). A stuffed animal. A new Tshirt. Sing the song. Birthday button. And head out to the parks.

for the same reasons you would hang things for a birthday party at home. Wow. What a boring birthday that would be. We are doing presents and everything there. He is not having a birthday party @ home, so this is it. We are not letting his day pass uncelebrated.

thank you to those who actually ANSWERED my question. I will bring string and clothes pins :)

Please ignore the negative nellies :) I think clothes pins would be adorable...maybe paint them fun party colors and glue some Mickey head cut outs to them. You can look on Etsy and eBay and find some great Cricut designs/signs and then clip them to a string using your fancy Mickey head clothes pins :)

The Creative DISigners forum here has some great banners print outs and coupons...etc that you could get for the birthday boy.

I hope he has a wonderful birthday at Disney.....I'm sure it'll be great!

Sounds like FUN which is the point of it all, isn't it? I'm glad some good tips came out of having to put up with the imagined rules and restrictions. :confused3

I do decorate my windows at WDW, but there really are a few rules and restrictions. One of them is to not use any kind of substance to write on your windows. One poster used something designed for that, and was still charged by WDW for supposedly damaging the windows.

So yes, you can decorate but yes, there are a few restrictions. Best to know them ahead of time so you don't end up paying for your decorations twice.

OP--Could you maybe fake having a headache one day, and head back to the room early to set up your suprise?

Have lunch at the food court and soon as they sit down, tell him that you forgot something.. maybe to put deodorant. Head back to the room. They will probably won't follow you since they already got their food and they are already sitting down. This will probably will buy you about 20-30 minutes worth of decorating the room.

Don't order anything big.. order a salad and a fruit, so when you get back it's still good because they are suppose to be served cold anyway. Good luck!

I do not see any items glued or taped to the wall.

There is a banner on the wall in one of the pics, hard to tell how its attached.

I don't trust command hooks as I've managed to rip holes in drywall at home, following the instructions exactly!

I've decorated inside windows at our WDW rooms with suction cups and lights, and vinyl clings, for Halloween and Christmas. Loved it!

Op, hope your decorations look great!

Just to tell you that you can actually geta direct line to speak to the resort itself! You just have to get the number for that actual resort,I have also been put through to guest services when calling the call centre.

I stayed at AKL for 21 NIGHTS!! and we saw quiet a few rooms that had decorations on the doors!

There was people that had Happy birthday princess banners, another that had A princess is staying in this room,Happy Halloween quite a few happy Halloween banners actually!

So to say that its NOT allowed and that people would stand out like TRASH is completley untrue.

Its my sons 10th birthday the day we fly and mine and Dh 4th Disney wedding anniversary I am going to make sure that the inside of my villa is decorated!
I honestly can not see what masking tape(I belive some people call it decoraters tape) would do to the room,We use it all the time and it peels of off everything leaving no tape mark what so ever as that is its purpose "NOT TO PEEL PAINT AWAY"
If you have nothing better to do on your Disney holiday then file a complaint about somebodys door being decorated then go ahead! BUT all you will be doing is wasting your precious Vacation time while im off having fun :)

I will also answer your question about Trash and damages in my room......No i would not be happy if somebody had left there rubbish all over my room but i guess that is what Disney put bins in every room for,For people to thow their trash into;)
I doubt that any room you get will have been damaged by a few decorations But im sure that you will be on the look out either way.

I see you're trying to earn your ears. :earsboy: :) Lighten up.. Relax.. Enjoy the magic! pixiedust: Your room will not be damaged or trashed. You'll probably see furniture with more damage from wear and tear (nicks, scratch, and maybe a little rip).. than you would with window or curtain (or maybe never). I am sure the guests will clean up what they have left, and if there's any left, I am sure the Mousekeepers will clean the inside window, just like they clean the mirrors, and everything else.

No one is thrilled when the room is damaged. For those of us who have earned our ears here on the DIS :mickeyjum understand and accept that everything in the room is not going to be perfect. Ex.. We stayed at WL, and I can see the carpet has a little tore and the bunk bed has some nicks.. am I okay with that, I'm fine as long as the room is not falling apart on me or the lights are not working or the outlets are not working or something totally major.

I've seen many decorated windows and doors. In my opinion, it is not trash. They just want to show their enthusiasm of being in Disney and how much they love Disney. I for one, for the first time, will be decorating the window and I might even decorate the door with the 2 sided magnets. :)

I love when guests decorate their windows! I cant wait until December to decorate ours! Working on ideas now!

When my son was in college they were not allowed to damage the walls by nailing or taping anything to the walls. There was a substance like putty that was sold by the college bookstore to be used to hang posters,etc.. This stuff worked great, left no holes or residue.

Try checking a local college book store.
