where is the best places to look for doing it ourselves?
last holiday we went through thomas cook

Thanx in advance

we're looking at staying onsite over xmas and new year 2011
2 adults and 2 children 6 and 12

You can't book scheduled flights until 11 months before your return date so you are looking at end of Jan 2011 for Xmas 2011. Then you need to do general searches on sites like Travelsupermarket.com or Kayak.co.uk etc.

You might be able to pick up a flydrive at a good price, just checked Virgin, still not available. You need to check when all the flydrive companies release Xmas 2011.

Once you have your flights sorted then look for hotels, again travelsupermarket.com is a good start but loads more, best thing to do is post again when you have your flights, myself or others will advise best deals around.

Don't rule out a package, we went Xmas 2008. Virgin flight only were selling for £900+, Flydrive £700+ I booked with Virgin Holidays flight & hotel for £580. Rarely works like that but worth checking.

I'm sure WayneG will be along shortly to help you out, but he helped me a few years ago by telling me to use hotelopia (via Quidco - sign up for that, it's great!) and looking for direct prices with the Airlines. USrentacar.com was also recommended to me by him, which saved me a fortune on the car. :thumbsup2
Since then, I personally have saved money by using Kayak.com for my flights this time (consider flying to Tampa if you want to save more money - only an hours drive away), and most importantly keep your eyes on this board for any glitches/cheap deals being offered! WayneG managed to get me a hire car for £250 instead of £1000!!! Love that man! :)
Happy planning!

You beat me to it Wayne! Lol :rotfl:

You need to type faster:rotfl2:

Best way to go are the glitches. In past year we got £1,700 Biz class flights for £470, Dollar.co.uk car rental for about half price & Expedia 25 nights car hire for £197 instead of about £700.
Only problem is we found we loved Biz class flying so costing me a fortune this year.:goodvibes

While the glitches you found worked out great for you Wayne, it might be worth pointing out that companies do not have to honour them. A case in point is the recent debacle with WDTC's 2011 business class packages being cheaper than the economy packages- anyone who booked had to pay the difference or was refunded.

Still, can't hurt to try! ;)

Exactly Lauren, always assume they will cancel any website error but I have found the travel industry is excellent at honouring them. So far had glitches on at least 2 hotels, 2 flights(1 economy & 1 biz class) and 2 car rentals, all 6 honoured. I think this one on WDTC was the 1st I have come across with cancellations, maybe others but I don't remember them. Even with this there was nothing to lose, they should refund no problem.

Warned you! :lmao:

Hoping you might spot a biz glitch sometime soon for next year!
