I was originally going to just use rice paper fans then I found these fans and made a sample last night and I really like them. They are useful and nice keepsake, 2 birds with one stone kind of thing.

My concern, especially since I made a sample last night, is an easy way to cut them. One website did suggest a Rotary Paper Trimmer and I have one of those, but it only cuts straight, unless I am missing something. Scissors are too inconsistent. I just figure if I can't do it inexpensively I will just get the rice paper fans and move on.

Any help would be great!

Those are a neat design ! Can you use a circle cutter (I have a Creative Memories one) but I am sure there are others at craft/scrapbooking stores. If you were able to set the font up to do more than one per "circle" then whip the circle cutter around it, use a straight cutter to separate them and then a corner trimmer to round your corners ?? Just a suggestion.

Can you find something with just the right curve and use a utility knife such as X-acto knife to cut around it. A glass or saucer perhaps and make sure the blade is new so it is really sharp!

The fan is lovely.

Thank you for the ideas! I did consider using an x-acto blade. I'm going to try again tonight and see if it gets easier, if it doesn't I don't think I will want the hassle.

A scrapbooking corner rounder would be perfect for this! Creative Memories has an excellent one, but I'm sure you can find one at Michael's, JoAnn's, AC Moore, or any craft store in the scrapbook section. Look near the punches. Those fans will be gorgeous!

I'm sure if you cut elongated triangles and then use the corner trimmers everyone mentioned, this would be the easiest and fastest way.

Thanks for the additional ideas! I appreciate it.

I went back to the website and searched for some tips from there as well. The only way she suggested was using a cutter for the straight part and scissors or an x-acto blade for the curve parts. I did try it this way and it was slow going, but it did come out a lot better than the ones from last night. I think I'm going to venture out for an x-acto blade tomorrow since that should be easier and more efficient than scissors.

I did try my corner punch, it just does not reach with the template I have.

I did think of the triangle idea as well, the bottom just does not end up as wide and it would probably cause more hassle for the curve at the top. I found a great template. It would be difficult to get them the way I want them in my head, if you know what I mean.

I'll do one more test run tomorrow to see if I want to go in this direction, but I love the look and I would only have to make 150 fan panes, no problem

My daughter made these for her wedding on Disney Cruise in November.....I will ask and see what she used to sut them all out. Then instead of a ribbon on the bottom she used a small, it looks like a charm that is a WEDDING CAKE to hook them all together.

There is a picture of hers on her blog if you would like to see them let me know and I will post the web site where she put the pictures.....

That would be fantastic, thank you! I think I have figured out a way to cut them, it's just a slow process so any tips to make it a little easier would be awesome.
