Dixie Chicks tour struggling.

I don't think it's true that they want fans that don't care about there leanings. They want fans that lean their way.

I also think ticket prices are ridiculous. It's great that $50 isn't alot to some people, but it is alot to many. Especially when you factor in the Ticketmaster fees, that can bring a price up substantially. Also some venues are now charging $15-$20 for parking. It's an expensive night out. If I am paying those prices I want to escape reality, not be slapped in the face with it.

That may be true but they also lost some Southern country music lovin Democrats with their Reba and Toby comment. There actually are Democrats who love country music who were insulted by the recent comment.

When I said "Conservative" I meant that to encompass the conservative factions of all the political parties. And not that's it's a big deal, but weren't they just responding to what Reba and Toby said about them?

Almost the same thing, isn't it?

No, I don't think so. Reba has never said anything bad about them until after they said what they said about not wanting their CD played in the same CD player with Reba and Toby's CDs. Toby and the DC did have issues back when they made their Bush comment but that was years ago. Reba's response to their comment was something along the lines of 'putting their foot in their mouth'.

I only wanted to point out that what they said also insulted some Democrats as well as Conservatives. On another thread about the DC there were some Democrat DISers who enjoy country music who were insulted.

I guess I was nitpicking with political semantics. I do see your point.

I used to love the Chicks when their music was fun and they weren't so political. I hate it when music and politics are mixed - that's when I lose interest.

I agree with you 100%. I never did like the dixie chicks music, the chubby lead singer sounds like a chipmunk, and they did a horrible remake of stevie nicks "landslide" Songs like that just dont need to be remade by anyone. I used to like Barbra Streisand too, until she wouldn't stop flapping her mouth. I just want to tell singers who are too political to "SHUT UP AND SING!"

Why does becoming an entertainer mean you can't have an opinion? Why do they have to "Shut up and Sing". It's their right as American citizens to say whatever they want. If you don't want to buy a concert ticket - don't, don't want to buy the CD don't. No big deal - it's the great part of being an American. Liberal or Conservative we all have the right to speak our mind and not one other person has to agree with it. :thumbsup2

They have every right to have an opinion, it's the 'I'm a celebrity, therefore you must hear my opinion' attitude that many have a problem with. When they are standing on stage, they have a captive audience who has no choice but to listen to them. The way to avoid this is to not go to see them in concert. Apparently, that's exactly what people are doing.

I'm giving up on these Dixie Chicks threads. I'm starting to think some posters just to "hear" themselves "speak" and it's the same stuff over and over. If it makes people feel better to hate them because they don't agree with them or don't like country music (which is a great percentage of the population at large anyway :) ) or whatever then hate away. It's a lot of energy to waste on people who have more money than I'm sure they'll ever need and who probably couldn't care less what a bunch of DISers think. :rolleyes2:

Nope, they went after Toby  and Reba first.

And they (as has been pointed out) they didn't say they don't want conservative fans - they don't want ANY fans that listen to Toby and Reba. That leaves out most country music fans. Everyone pretty much likes one or the other (or both). I guess they are counting on a whole new audience of fans who didn't like them before. Maybe they'll get it.

Toby  in fact is not a conservative. He's a democrat and has been for YEARS. He campaigned for the Democrat governor in Oklahoma, even.

I love love love the new Dixie Chicks CD, I have it on my ipod. Awesome CD, would rather listen to that then some of the other crud that's out there. I'm not a huge country fan at all, but this one is amazing.

Could care less about the political bs that's been following them, seems you're only allowed to express an opinion if you're a republican. :confused3

No it's not. There is a difference between wanting your fans to not care about your politics one way or the other, and expecting them to agree with everything you say. If they only want fans who agree with them politically they are leaving out alot of the population that still could have appreciated their music.

I don't necessarily agree with everything they say but I'll fight for their right to say it. Or anyone else's right wherever they happen to be.

Holy cow! All those new smilies but none to fit this thread.

Where's a good old 'beating a dead horse' smilie when you need one, eh? ;)

:thumbsup2 I've seen them, but not on the selection here. But that about sums it up. Hate em, love em, be indifferent, in the big scheme of things, the Dixie Chicks will still make music and the earth will still rotate on it's axis. My opinion? It's very simple. I love music and only have one criteria for it's purchase. If I like someone's music, I buy it. If I hate it, it stays on the shelf.

Reported today... says they will "reschedule"
doubt it

WFMS, the most popular country music station in Indy does not play DC music. They said they tested the new song and the listeners didn't want to hear it.
HHMMMMM... welcome to the conservative Midwest. We speak with our pocketbook.

I don't care what their views are, but if I were going to go to a concert it wouldn't be one that was full of political stuff (on either side).
