Dixie Chicks tour struggling.

I used to love the Chicks when their music was fun and they weren't so political. I hate it when music and politics are mixed - that's when I lose interest.

Toby Keith will beat them at the box office every time, and for the reasons you stated.
No, no, no. Toby  will win at the box office because he is TOBY!

THe Dixie Chicks were good in their day, but no comparison. Toby  has better songs and more of them. He is more entertaining and MUCH funnier in concert. And very cute to boot. I saw the Dixie Chicks twice, but never miss Toby  . Plus, of course, Toby  doesn't tell people he doesn't want them for fans. (Duh.)

Also, DawnCt1, you forgot to put the love smilie after his name (that's a DIS requirement, ya know. Well, it OUGHT to be!)

Ah, Toby...

Really? I haven't been able to get a Toby Keith ticket in two years. He is coming back to Ct. this summer but we will be in Hawaii. Even so, they are hard tickets to snag.

If you really want to see him drive out to PA, Montage Mountain. He's played there the last few summers and you won't have any trouble getting tickets. Every year tickets were still available even a few days before the show, we saw him Summer of '04 and had seats right down in front. He'll be there 8/12 but tickets aren't on sale yet. It's a really nice place too, very scenic.

Eh, many touring acts are having problems. This isn't just exclusive to the Dixie Chicks.

Are you sure?

I bought 6 tix to a concert in January for a May concert in town. It was sold out in 3 hours. I had two extra tix, so I put them on eBay. I ended bid went for double what I paid for them.

I don't think there's a shortage of concert goers for other than Dixie Chicks, at least in the North East.

Ozzfest is doing just fine. Same with American Idols.

They ran off thier uneducated mouths to their fans, who tend to support the President. They mistakenly thought that hiding out for 3 years would make everyone forget, and they were wrong. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people!

I thought first I'd mention that I find country music artist to have much better prices on the concerts and tee shirts then most artists out there. I paid something like $65 to see Tim McGraw and sit in lower seats and within the same year or so I paid $80 to see Bruce Springsteen. Plus Tim was on stage from about 7:30 to 11:30. Bruce was only on for about an hour and a half. Go figure. I also paid $20 or $25 for a shirt and at Bruce they wanted like $40. So I think the Chicks are on the better end for ticket prices.

Out of curiosity I went to see what tickets were left for Toby Keith and then for the Dixie Chicks here in my area. (Boston) They are playing different venues but the tickets left were comparable. As for the Chicks now becoming political with their messages... if you own their cd Home then check it out. They didn't just become political. Travelin' Soldier and Truth No. 2 both carry political messages and Good Bye Earl on the album Fly they have said was speaking out against men who beat their wives. (In a rather fun way.) Oh and fwiw Toby Keith has his own set of polictial message songs. (As do many other artists. Its long been the way of the entertainment business to infuse their work with political messages.)

I'm not trying to convince anyone to like the Dixie Chicks. I'm just putting more facts out there. (Although I know I probably shouldn't even respond to threads like this.) The only reason I'm not seeing the Chicks this year is because I'm seeing Tim and Faith together. Then seeing a concert of my bf's choice. With a trip to Disney on the horizon this is the most I could budget.

I couldn't disagree with you more. Other country acts have no problem selling out. In Pittsburgh recently both the Tim McGraw/Faith Hill tour and the Rascall Flatts tour sold out (and that was just within the last month or so.) Bon Jovi is sold out or close to it. Brooks and Dunn reaches max capacity every year. Plenty more acts sell out on a regular basis. Dixie Chicks sold out her the last time (2003) but can't seem to do it this time. I would definately say it is the act and not the ticket prices!

I heard from a radio station DJ that they are very rude. He said he interviewed alot of country musicians and they were by far the worst. I think they need to remember who put them where they are.

ITA and that would be for either side.

Tickets ARE more expensive and it isnt just the $50 its that X 2 plus babysitting, plus food, plus gas plus parking. All in all it works out to WAY too much!

We make exception for the one band that we love ( as a whole family so we can all go) but unless others are playing at HOB we dont bother. Its just too much money!

Their album is number one two weeks in a row and at the same time their concert tickets aren't selling. Makes me wonder if people like their music but don't want to hear their rhetoric.

Never thought of it that way but I think you hit the nail on the head.

Jimmy Buffett as well, but he's political on his own time, never in a concert.

I think God is punishing the Dixie Chicks because they dissed his good buddy George W. :cool1:

Jimmy Buffet is an incredibly astute businessman. His laid back Margaritaville attitude is a great gig but not who he is.

I have to agree with these latest posts.

The Dixie Chicks are no longer a group of beautiful talented musicians.

Just to catch a glimpse of them on TV.... (boy they are really trying HARD to drum up some ticket sales on the PR circuit) I don't even keep the sound turned up, but just to see their faces. All I see is some pushy, angry, women with an agenda.

Sorry, I wouldn't pay to see them either.

If people want to see them, they will pay any price for tickets...look at U2, their ticket prices were really high and yet the shows were packed. I personally can think of much better things to spend my money on than a concert ticket right now for anybody. In my single days we used to go to every show we could. It is much easier paying for 1 ticket as opposed to 2, plus like it's been said, add parking (when I went with friends, parking would be split at least 4 ways), and probably drinks or food afterwards and we are spending my weeks food budget on 1 night.

DC has not had any air time here that I have heard, unless they are being played when I am channel flipping and I miss them. I've seen the vdeo a few times but not in the last week. There was a lot of initial interest in them due to controversy, but how long can they sustain that? Maybe they should think of playing smaller venues so their fans can still see and enjoy them.

I for one will be online in the morning buying my tickets when they go on sale. :thumbsup2 I think some of the comments in the article are a bit premature considering a big portion of the tour isn't even on sale yet. As for the lack of presales it could be because they were like me! I bought the CD at Target and no presale info. :( I haven't seen a concert since their last tour and truthfully there are few bands that I want to spend the money on. The Dixie Chicks we see everytime they are in town no matter what. As an aside Faith Hill and Tim McGraw are coming here along with Kenny Chesney and Alan Jackson. Those shows are less than a month away and still tickets available so maybe it's not as telling about the Dixie Chicks as the market in general.
