After the Dixie Chicks noticed a decline in their music sales...They decided it would be easier to say they were "just kidding" regarding the comment about Pres. George W Bush, rather then apologize for the VERY stupid comment made-in ANOTHER country.

An interesting note, I taped yesterday's liberation of Baghdad.... over a previously televised Dixie Chicks concert! :teeth:

How old are these women? When my brother was about 8 years old he used to use that excuse to try to get himself out of trouble his mouth got him into. Amazing

They should just stand up for what they (truly) believe and take their lumps. Didn't anyone ever teach them that there are consequences to every action they take? Apparently not. Gosh, I learned that before I was 8 years old.

Lots of fans must agree-----they did not win ONE single award on the CMT Flameworthy (Video) Awards the other night. This is country's version of the MTV awards---FANS VOTE on who they want to win!!!! Voted the Chicks O U T.

I read one report that sales of their CD had declined 40%! That's an amazing number and I'm sure it has gotten their attention.

I did predict, back when Natalie made that outrageous statement, that before it was all over with we'd see them groveling. I think that will be next, after this "just kidding comment".

I would have had a lot more respect for them (not their opinion, but them) if they had just stuck to their original shame of the President. They say they're ashamed and, when they see the negative reaction, they apologize for it. Then, when they see that got them nowhere, the lead singer goes on some foreign talk show and says that she's not sorry and it's her right to say what she wants. So, they really have no opinion and they just say things to pander to whatever audience and emotion is prevalent at the time. I never liked their music, so I never followed them, but I think they're a bunch of hypocrits who say whatever they think people want to hear so people will continue to throw their hard-earned money at them to buy them mansions.

At least Michael Moore is consistent and doesn't back down to popular opinion. I still think he's a goon, but at least he has the courage to stand against the tide.

They should just keep their mouths shut and not dig themselves any deeper into a hole than they are. The more they try to justify, the more it looks like they are only saying what the record company wants them to. Trying to rebuild PR is B***H.

Have Marty and Emily also been involved? I thought Natalie was the one who made the statements and has continued to create the controversy. I had not heard that the other 2 Chicks (sisters Marty and Emily) had also made such statements.

Dixie Chicks Sales drop 52% while Maines "Prouder than Ever"

Although their album remains number one on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, sales have dropped a reported 52 percent since Natalie Maines' infamous comment about being embarrassed by the president. Regarding the hate mail this has generated, she has reacted flippantly to the situation. According to reports, the singer said, "The more flack I get for it, the prouder I am." Now wait a minute, just yesterday, she said, "It was a joke and it wasn't planned. And it was really funny at the time. It got lots of cheers, and that's what it was meant for. You see the trouble that you can get into if you speak religion or politics. It gets people very upset."

Was it a joke, or is she just a joke?

Now, do I read this correctly "The more flack I get for it, the prouder I am." WHAT?

Yeah, uh huh ... a poorly timed April Fools joke. Right.

Jamsmom, if all that confused you, don't worry, you're not alone. Maybe Natalie Maines inhaled too much paint fumes on that Trading Spaces she did. :teeth:

As far as I've heard it's only been Natalie making the comments....so I should have said "she" should just keep her mouith shut. Unfortunately her comments reflect on the whole group....a lot like back when I was a kid and one of the Beatles made a comment about being bigger than Jesus. (Now I'm not sure what the exact statement was, so don't tell me if that wasn't the corrext phrasing). My Dad said "The Beatles" said so and so I don't want their music played in the house.

She should be advised to stop making comments if she doesn't want them to come back and bite her in the butt!!

That said...I liked the Dixie Chicks and will probably listen to thier songs again some day, but for now I turn them off.

Aren't they sort of crossing over from country music?

I've always liked their music (not a lot but it's OK) but it'll be a long time for me to get over her statements. I just don't think many country music fans will tolerate their statements. If they cross over, they'll probably be just fine.

uhg!!! I never realized they were that homely looking...:o

I've been trying to get tickets to their sold out concert
in Columbus Ohio for weeks now. Apparently they're not
being as hurt as you'd all like to believe. Does someone
have tickets they want to give me? PM me if you are
too ashamed to admit you have the tickets already-I'll
never tell. :p

Most of their sold out shows were sold out before she made her comments. It will be interesting (to say the least) to see what happens at their first concert when they get back from oversees.

Hang outside the venue the night of the concerts. I'm sure there will be a lot of former fans that will be willing to sell you their tickets. I'm sure ticket brokers have been flooded with them too. I wouldn't have figured you for a country music fan though. *shrug*
