So without going into too much detail, after going into the ER for internal bleeding, I was diagnosed this morning. Scary stuff. I had never been in so much pain before. Anyone here have any experience with this. I have a follow up with my MD on the 16th.

I had a bout seven years ago. It was extremely painful. I took two very powerful antibiotics that knocked out the infection. I think I missed 3 days of work (and I rarely miss work).

Thank goodness, I've never had a reoccurrence. Rarely I will feel pain in the area where I had the infection. Honestly, I don't avoid any of the stuff they tell you to: Nuts, rice, seeds, etc.

I'm on cipro and flagil. The flagil actually burned my arm going in. Not a fun time. I'm glad to hear you're doing well.

I'm so sorry to hear this.. Yes - I ended up in the ER too - back in the mid to late '90's.. Woke me up out of a sound sleep.. Has to be one of THE most painful things I have ever experienced in my life.. I was in the hospital for 5 days - demerol shots around the clock..

It was a bad, bad time - and I have done everything possible to avoid ever having another incident..

Sending you a PM with more info..

Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you C Ann! Heading over to Read it now. They gave me morphine. Took away the pain but I hated how it made me feel.

They tell you about seeds, raw veggies and all the logical things. My mother had it pretty badly until she found out that cheap chocolate got her every time. No more M&M's or little snak sized Hershey bars. We bought her Godiva for gifts after that and she started seeding her tomatoes. Then she'd go months without any problem at all. If she got weak and at cheap chocolate - triouble!!! Get thee to the Godiva store, lol!

My Mom has it. She avoids nuts, any kind of seeds even things like strawberries and blueberries because of the tiny seeds. She hasn't had any problems since avoiding those things. She misses popcorn the most tho.

I can offer no advice but I wish you the best of luck and get well soon.

My mom went through a horrible time. Many trips to the ER. They finally decided they had to remove 12 inches of her colon. She even had a flare up when prepping for the barium enema so they could determine how much to take out. She was admitted instead and the surgery was postponed for several weeks. She has had one flare up since her surgery but that is when she forgot her Activia on vacation and did not want to inconvience anyone to go get some.:confused3 She needs to keep things moving in there or other waste, not just seeds and nuts can get caught in the pods.

Good luck.:flower3:

Diverticulosis is fairly common, all that means is you have these little pouches on your colon, diverticulitis is when one of those pouches gets infected. Antibiotics should do the trick. It may take a week or 2 for you to feel alot better, especially because the antibiotics can be alittle rough on the stomach. My father had 3 bouts of it then decided to have surgery to have the offending section of colon removed(so now we call him semi colon! :lmao:) He has not had a flare up since and I'm pretty sure he doesn't follow a diet, But I would never tell my mom that though!
Good luck to you, hope you feel better soon!

We had a family friend that suffered terribly from the condition. Don't know much of what happened, other than he was in and out of the hospital for awhile. What helped him was avoiding wheat/ grains most of the time, along with taking vitamin D and fish oil. As far as I know he hasn't had further flare ups.

Very interesting.. As I mentioned previously, I had a very bad attack and was hospitalized for 5 days back in the 90's.. Since then I have been very, very careful about "keeping things moving" and pay very, very close attention to my diet: no corn on the cob (won't even chance creamed corn); no popcorn; no seeds of any kind; no raisins; no nuts (unless I grind them into a powder); etc..

But the part of your post I bolded really jumped out at me! I love wheat bread - but couldn't figure out why I had severe cramps every time I ate it.. I guess I know now!! I can eat seedless rye; Italian; white; French; garlic bread - all without problems - but wheat bread? It kills me!!

Can your friend eat bran - as in bran flakes without raisins? I have no problems with that - as long as they're not made from wheat bran..

So glad I came back to this thread and learned something new!!! :thumbsup2
