Divas, Zebra Domes, and Pixie Dust! A Week in an African Paradise! New TR Link Pg.145

When I awoke Thursday morning, I was, of course, the first one awake. I took the opportunity to snap some pictures of the pool from our balcony. These were the pictures I used in the update about our room, but I will repost them here since this when I took them.

Early mornings simply sitting on the balcony and gazing at the pool are so peaceful and relaxing.

Today was our “whatever” day with no set plans until our dinner at Boma at 5:55. We decided we had the most unfinished business at Animal Kingdom, so after a quick breakfast of leftover desserts -- which by the way, in case anyone was wondering zebra domes are just as good at 8:00 in the morning -- off we headed to the buses (Charles was planning on sleeping in a bit more).

I was dying for a decent cup of coffee so outside the entrance of the park I stopped at the kiosk and got an iced mocha. Ahhhh. It was delicious and just what my body was craving!

Once inside I insisted we stop for some Photopass pictures including the much coveted Simba photo. These are my favorite two of the group.

Then we leisurely browsed through all the shops on Discovery Island while I finished my coffee. With only two days of our vacation left, I realized I needed to start making some decisions about which souvenirs I wanted to buy. I saw quite a few things I liked, but decided we could come back on our way out -- I didn’t want to carry stuff all day long.

On Sunday when we had last been at Animal Kingdom, the kids had begged and begged to go see “It’s Tough to be a Bug.” I had managed to put them off, but as soon as I was finished with my coffee, their pleas resumed. Chelsea and Connor had not forgotten their desire to see this 3-D show.

Now before I go on with this GREAT story, let me explain.

I am the only one in our family not terrified of bugs.

When I say “terrified,” I don’t mean, “Eek! There’s a bug.” I mean “MOM!!! COME QUICK!!! IF YOU DON’T, I COULD DIE!!!” kind of terrified -- to which I go running in to discover there is a gnat in Connor’s room.

I have successfully saved all three members of my family from:
Gigantic bugs.
Really big bugs.
Big bugs.
Medium bugs.
Small bugs.
Tiny bugs.
Teeny tiny bugs.
Dust mites.
Bugs you need an electron microscope to see.
Bugs they claim are there and which I eradicate even though I can’t see them AT ALL.

See where I am going with this?

I tried to persuade my children that it was in their best interests to forego a 3D show ALL ABOUT BUGS. I even said, “Lots of people on the DIS boards say it is scary for people who don’t like bugs.” Chelsea and Connor were adamant -- they wanted to experience the show ABOUT BUGS -- WHICH THEY ARE DEATHLY AFRAID OF!

Sometimes you just have to let children learn from their lack of judgement.

Trooping merrily into the theater with their little buggy glasses, my children were blissfully unaware of what they were in store for during this show since they had willfully refused to listen to my dire warnings.

Thank goodness it is a relatively short show. I loved it -- I thought it was clever and cute and funny.

Meanwhile, Connor had his head buried in my lap.

Over on the other side of Connor, Chelsea had pulled her knees up and had her head down between them.

If they had been younger, I wouldn’t have laughed. Seeing as how they are older children, I giggle every time I think about this part of the trip. Call me cruel, but I wish I could have taken a picture of them to show their future spouses. I would preface it by saying, “I think you should know that you have a lifetime of killing real and imaginary bugs ahead of you.”

As we were leaving the theater, Chelsea exclaimed very loudly, “I NEVER want to do that again!”

UP NEXT: Dinosaurs are way less scary than bugs!

Haha! Funny story about ITTBAB. My 22 year old cousin at the time declared how much he hated it because of giant spiders lol I laugh everytime i think of that!

Only another 15 or so years until they start listening to their Mother's good advice.

PS. I have hatched a plan to score myself some Zebra Domes in October!

Silly stubborn kiddos! Glad you enjoyed the show though! Did you get your coffee from the Royal Anandapur Tea Company? My goodness do they have good coffee/chai/tea/everything! I seriously suggest checking that one out next time if you didn't, yum! Btw, nice pool pics, looks so relaxing! :thumbsup2

Very funny, CP!! :lmao:

Sometimes, they just have to find out for themselves!

Great job averting the mommy meltdown on the last chapter, BTW. Relaxing at the pool sounds great, especially when the pool is so lovely!

Zebra domes are now on my list of foods to try, for sure!

Haa haa haa!! Too funny!!! I love how kids always think they are smarter then their parents are..... It's great when they finally realize they are not!! Love the photopass pictures!!

I'm always the first one awake at Disney too.:)

Family Bug Squisher is NOT a title I would have pegged you with.:rotfl: Good for you.:thumbsup2

The photopass pics are fab! You look so proud of Chelsea with Simba.:goodvibes

:lmao: Oh, CP. You remind me of my Mom. If Tim & I had pulled something like that when we were younger she would still be laughing about it. :rotfl2: She swears that we dragged her on Splash Mountain as children but I believe I was the one being dragged by her and Tim. :lmao:

You tried to warn them. You have earned the right to laugh! ;)

Too funny on the kids, well now they know ITTBAB is not on their "must do" list right?

No Charles again, I think you need to leave him home and just take the kids yourself next time, save yourself some dough!

And when I was there I couldn't remember where you bought that CD set, just the name of it. I looked in every gift shop we went to and couldn't find it! As we were leaving a CM at Pop told me to call the number on my receipt and they can see if it is anywhere. I have yet to do that but I want to. I have my mind set on getting this CD!

I love this picture...again!

'Whatever' days are nice. :thumbsup2

Where are all the shopping pictures? :)

The kids were forewarned. You have every right to laugh. ;)

That Bug show is bound to provide some great memories for the kids in the years to come! I hope they have learned that you are very wise!:lmao:

As I sit here with a stopped up nose, cough and sneezing I soooooooo want to be in a lounge chair by that pool with an adult beverage, feeling the warm sunshine on my face. Ahhhhhhhhhh :cloud9:

Charles, Charles, Charles :sad2:

Chelsea is once again looking tres chic in her sunglasses. The photo pass pictures are great. I'm kicking myself for forgetting about doing that with our photo pass pictures.

I, too, never imagined you as a bug killer! You did your best to warn those silly kids that they wouldn't like ITTBAB and they didn't listen. Therefore you have every right to laugh hysterically at their fear. :lmao: :lmao: I wasn't sure if Hannah would like this show or not because she doesn't like spiders; other bugs aren't a problem. We all loved it!

Can't wait to hear about Dinosaur! This was my favorite ride!

LOL!! Loved this update!!! I would have giggled too if they were my kids...like they say mom knows best!!!! I actually enjoy that show but for someone who hates bugs I would imagine its absolutely terrifying and no fun at all!!!

Souvenir shopping...does this mean retail therapy soon....do I get to see pictures LOL!!!!

Thanks for sharing this update Jackie I loved it!

Oh no! I can't believe they insisted on seeing a show about creatures they're terrified of. Wait, yes I can. That's exactly the kind of thing my own kids would do! lol

Did I mention that when we go down to Disney in November we'll be driving. From Nashville. Through Atlanta? ... I'm just sayin'.

Hi Jackie! I've been MIA - traveling again. I'm all caught up, and enjoyed your updates as usual!

The face painting is great! I loved the idea that even though it's kind of spendy, you'll have the pictures forever!

I love Basin - lots of natural stuff! I forgot to go back the last trip - Mickey soap sounds really cool. That would make great gifts to bring back.

That's so funny that the kids insisted on going to ITTBAB and then didn't like it - I can just hear it - "I told you so....when will you listen to me?":rotfl2:

That's great! Sometimes I love those "told you so" moments

Has the Mom's Panel been lots of fun? I think that would be such a neat experience!
It has been fantastic, I just love answering questions, I've done over 900 now :faint:

Oh, that's going to be a blast! Are you doing the Adventurer's Club dinner as well? I could see my two being like that, too! :lmao:
Fraid not, I arrive on the Thursday and due to the time difference will be fast asleep by 9pm at the very latest, that will be 2am my time and I'll have been up early and on a plane for over 9 hours :rotfl2:

If they had been younger, I wouldn’t have laughed. Seeing as how they are older children, I giggle every time I think about this part of the trip. Call me cruel, but I wish I could have taken a picture of them to show their future spouses. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: My 2 refuse to go on it after I took them on in 2005 :rotfl2:

I havn't managed to get my two to go to ITTBAB. We did it once when our oldest was about 2 1/2. Before the real fears emerged. That is too funny, I would have been laughing too!
