Divas, Zebra Domes, and Pixie Dust! A Week in an African Paradise! New TR Link Pg.145

Too funny about the kids Mickey head ice cream! We too experienced the rapidly melting ice cream:sad2: I had to laugh about Charles not knowing where Pizzafari is, I swear I think men purposely act stupid so if they mess up they can blame us!:rolleyes1 What GREAT animal interaction, that is SO COOL! UGH! I can't believe you thought you find this nice quiet place to eat and then you get a character line.....NOT FUN!:headache:

It is not an ACT, is it brother?

I think I now know why wigd makes me wear this shirt! :cool1:

popping in to say hi!

I'm keeping my comments brief so I don't say something stupid....or stupider than usual.

That was an amazing update! I take it you managed to stay dry until you made it to the restaurant? Absolutely love the safari pictures:thumbsup2Everytime we ever ride the animals are always so far away and as I try and zoom the driver takes off and I have fuzz for a picture:headache:
Men...that's all I'll say:laughing:
Too bad about the melting ice cream bars! It's funny when you go in January and it's not super hot and you realize just how solidly frozen those Mickey bars are but in the summer heat it only takes a few moments to destroy them!

WOW!!! Your giraffe encounter was fantastic!! I wonder if she was trying to catch up to the other giraffe that had just gotten shoo'd off the road?

Another fantastic update! I love Connors Eeyore!! Glad Charles felt better and could join you all!!

Wow! Close encounters of the giraffe kind! That's amazing, and you have the photos to prove it.

And I have to say (some DISer, please feel free to prove me wrong with photos if you have them), I have never seen that lion greet anyone. He just lazes up there on his air conditioned rock, never moving... ;) :rotfl2:

I have been toying with trying to rent points at AKL for our trip next year and I think your trip report might just seal the deal. ;) I am going to wait until after we get back from our September trip before I decide, I want to see how the one bedroom at BLT works for us.

And on the flip side, I would love to stay at Bay Lake Towers sometime in the future and be on the monorail! That would be so much fun!

I love the giraffe picture, I think it would be perfect blown up in a "Safari" bathroom. I am slowly working on transforming my pool bath (pool bath, but no pool :confused3) to a safari theme. When I was expecting DD, my MIL bought a 3 foot wooden giraffe from her trip to South America for the nursery, since we didn't end up with a safari themed nursery, it found a home in the pool bath. Then, DD got DH a beautiful framed print of an alligator for Father's Day that will fit my theme perfectly. The Alligator Farm in St. Augutine is their place for daddy/daughter time.

What a cute idea! I have a feeling I am going to be amassing a lot of wooden giraffes.

Sorry to ramble on about me, back to your trip - I hope we have some close encounters on our next safari. That would be so cool. I think our husbands would enjoy touring Disney together, DH thinks a ride or two, a meal, and a few adult beverages make the perfect Disney day - although unlike Charles he doesn't have the excuse of not feeling well :) He likes to go at a much slower pace than I am comfortable with. :scared:

We have fed the giraffes at our zoo many times, DD is an animal lover. :lovestruc

Yes, Charles doesn't believe in rushing on vacation and I am always wanting to do stuff -- it makes for an interesting trip. LOL!

I need to find out if they do giraffe feedings at our zoo!

Great day! The giraffe photos were fantastic.

Thank you! We just love Animal Kingdom!

Great update! I LOVE that giraffe picture...I think she wanted to come back to the hotel with you guys! :lmao: She was so beautiful!

Thank you! I would have gladly taken her back with us -- she seemed very well-behaved! LOL!

Oh Jackie I'm green with envy over your giraffe encounter. I've had a special love for them ever since seeing the baby giraffes on safari both times I was pregnant in Disney.

I thought of you when it happened, Heidi! I knew you would love seeing the giraffe photos!

What a great giraffe pic! What an experience! I can't wait to try the Zebra domes! They sound great!

Thank you! Yes, zebra domes are delicious! I wish our Publix carried them.

That sounds amazing! Did you feel like a predator stalking its prey?

:lmao: Living with Connor, I actually felt like a Special Forces agent! ;)

The giraffe picture is amazing. Everytime I'm on the safari the animals are in hiding. It's a conspiracy or something.

Ha ha! This is the most active we have ever seen them!

And I don't know what this says about me, but I got the biggest laugh out of Chelsea losing her Mickey bar after laughing at Connor. :lmao: I guess I'm just a bit twisted.

That's because you have a brother so you could relate! Don't worry -- I laughed too and said, "That's what happens when you laugh at your brother." ;)

Ooooh! I love Ms. Giraffe!! She is gorgeous!! :goodvibes In January I got a good close picture of one of their bums! :lmao: I love watching the giraffes from the AKV too....sitting on the balcony and watching them eat, and eat, and eat! :cloud9:
The night vision IS really neat too! You can't see anything then all of a sudden it is like BAM there they are! :rotfl:

:lmao: I bet it is a very nice giraffe bum, too!

Ha! That was funny, that is the problem with Mickey Bars we discovered as well... too messy in the summer! They melt so fast!! The ice cream sandwiches at Dino Bites are made with fresh baked cookies... VERY GOOD...

Did the ice cream sandwiches hold up better?

WHAT great photos!!! That is just so cool!!!!! I know this sounds weird but I can always imagine a conversation with a Giraffe when I see them close, they look like they are thinking about something when they look at you, they look "amused"...

They have very expressive eyes -- like they have a secret they would love to share with you.

UGH the rain! And yes, that was not expected, lunch with the PhotoPass line!
Glad you found the humor in the situation! :)

We have learned that often you just have to laugh stuff off at Disney -- although sometimes that is easier said than done!

The pool looks AWESOME, and really how relaxing not to worry, What a great rest of the day! I noticed a few bugs at AK, too....

I hate mosquitoes -- wait until you hear what happens towards the end of our trip!

Your fireside was at the Lodge, right? They have something similar at Kidani as well, right outside Sanaa? The rockers didn't look like those I saw there... which makes me think there are two areas? Maybe more?

Can't wait to hear about EPCOT That is our next update too! :thumbsup2

There must be two areas -- the rocking chairs and fire pit we posed at was in the main lodge building. It was so comfortable. I would love to curl up there on an evening when it is chilly.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:Poor Connor. Poor Chelsea. Stupid 95 degree weather!

I don't think we did ice cream again as a result. We just couldn't eat it fast enough. I take that back -- Chelsea did get ice cream on our MK day.

Navigationally Challenged Charles needs to meet Directionally Deprived Denny. Sounds like they have a lot in common!

:lmao:We might never see them again as they wandered aimlessly all over the park without a clue as to where they were or where they needed to go. LOL!

I can not believe how close this giraffe is. What amazing pictures (although I am not 100% sure I cut and pasted the right ones since I can't see them at work). How cool to have a giraffe so close. That's like a picture you would get on one of those concierge safaris.

You did post the right ones! It did make me think of the concierge safari (which I always want to do, but I don't want to part with the money for it).

What a truly perfect day at AK in my opinion!!!! I love the way your day ended.....spending relaxing time sitting by the pool, sipping yummy drinks, and enjoying the beautiful surroundings all around you!!!! I want a day like that!!!!

Thank you! It was a lovely way to end the day and became quite a habit!

Hi Jackie! Now that I have finally made it back to Disboards, I have caught up on your TR! (Courtesy of your table of contents, thanks for that, btw!) Looks like you had a blast, those pics of the giraffe were awesome, as are all the pics of AKL. I am so excited to stay there in December! Keep the great updates coming!!

You will love, love, love, love AKL, Courtney! I can't wait to hear all about it -- you are going to have so much fun and the Christmas decorations are sure to gorgeous!

Great update!! LOVE the giraffe and safari eeyore!I have finally gotten back from reading your 2008 report and PTR. I really appreciate your chapter links! If I ever do a TR, I'm going to need to know how to do that! (among other things!)

You should do a TR -- they are lots of fun!

It's nice to see that you have had a relaxing trip and still gotten to do lots of things. We're hoping to add a night at AKL at the beginning of our trip in Dec. to enjoy the resort and see the animals because we won't be having a day at AK. The night vision thing sounds awesome! Not sure if we'll have warm enough weather to enjoy the pool in December though!

This was the best trip we have had so far with being able to balance resort time and park time. I need to make sure I can recreate it next time!

December is a toss-up -- I think sometimes it is warm enough and other times, it is too cold.

Just wanted to delurk and say how much I am enjoying your trip reports. I just found them a few days ago and I'm caught up with this one and am halfway through last year's and they are terrific.

:welcome: Thank you so much!

I have kids around the same age as yours, (Julia will be 10 this year and Matthew will be 8) and both of yours remind me of mine-especially the boys-I can't even tell you how much your son reminds me of Matthew.
From the love of Star Wars and Indy and the Legos and most especially how he poses for pics-he has a twin up north here.

Anyway..really cute kids, great writing style, thanks for the trip reports!

:lmao: Sounds like Connor and Matthew would get along wonderfully! I bet our girls would, too!

Disney giraffes must be especially friendly. We had one stick its head into our jeep and lick my husband. It was amazing. I am glad you got to see them up close as well.

Good timing on the rain, too bad you had to eat with an audience though.

Having your husband get licked must have been hilarious!!! :lmao:

That giraffe is just gorgeous. You took such a nice picture. I think rhinos are just unpredictable all around. We were within inches of being squirted by rhino pee last time we went to the zoo! ;)

Yikes! That would make an interesting memory! :scared:

Well...you know what they say about karma!  I would be seriously depressed if I lost my Mickey Bar. How cool that the giraffe was following your truck too! The pictures are awesome.

Love the relaxing evening by the pool and seeing the animals with the nigh vision goggles sounds like lots of fun (minus the mosquitos!).

Sounds like a good day all the way around!

Connor was not pleased about his ice cream bar!

It was a great day! We had a lot of fun!

So everytime I fall behind (I had a good excuse this time, I was in Atlantic City Wednesday and Thursday) I say "oh I only missed the update by one day" and then I come over here and see I already missed like 5 pages...what the heck?! :confused3 :lmao:

Anyway, Miss Popularity, what amazing safari pictures! That giraffe is soooo beautiful! I wish I had lashes like that :lmao:

:lmao: Did you have fun in Atlantic City?

I wish I had lashes like that, too!

That pool looks soooo wonderful and refreshing and your vantage point from your seat near the bar is heavenly :cloud9: I can't wait to stay there and all your pictures are just making me anticipate it more! :thumbsup2

It was a great view and handy for drinks! :thumbsup2

You are going to have such a wonderful time there!

You must be a great photographer or you have better subjects.....

I think I had the same subject but my photo turned out like this....

giraffe.jpg

:lmao: :cool1: :rotfl2:  :yay:

:lmao: I don't think that is the same giraffe -- that is obviously a boy giraffe!

Again, my apologies....

He can't help himself.

:lmao: about them acting stupid! With Charles I really think sometimes he thinks up ways to annoy me! ;)

The giraffe was soooo neat!

We tried to ignore the character line, but I was feeling a tad claustrophobic with all those people beside us. :scared:

It is not an ACT, is it brother?

I think I now know why wigd makes me wear this shirt! :cool1:

i_m_with_stupid_jpg.jpg

Why, what a darling shirt! :lmao:

popping in to say hi!

I'm keeping my comments brief so I don't say something stupid....or stupider than usual.

Hi, Cherie! I am glad you are back after your surgery! I hope the kids and DJ are taking good care of you and keeping the house picked up!

That was an amazing update! I take it you managed to stay dry until you made it to the restaurant? Absolutely love the safari pictures:thumbsup2Everytime we ever ride the animals are always so far away and as I try and zoom the driver takes off and I have fuzz for a picture:headache:

We did stay dry until we got to the restaurant so that was nice.

When they first pulled the bars out, I could tell they were like blocks of ice, but that lasted about ten seconds.

WOW!!! Your giraffe encounter was fantastic!! I wonder if she was trying to catch up to the other giraffe that had just gotten shoo'd off the road?

Or showing everyone that she could be just as cute as the other one.

Another fantastic update! I love Connors Eeyore!! Glad Charles felt better and could join you all!!

Thank you! Connor does love his Eeyore, and it was nice to have Charles around the rest of the day.

Wow! Close encounters of the giraffe kind! That's amazing, and you have the photos to prove it.

And I have to say (some DISer, please feel free to prove me wrong with photos if you have them), I have never seen that lion greet anyone. He just lazes up there on his air conditioned rock, never moving... ;) :rotfl2:

Thank you! Yes, I have never seen the lion doing anything except lay around on that rock -- I think they are nocturnal creatures for the most part though -- but I could just be making that up.

Did the ice cream sandwiches hold up better?

They have very expressive eyes -- like they have a secret they would love to share with you.

We have learned that often you just have to laugh stuff off at Disney -- although sometimes that is easier said than done!

ON the Ice Cream Sandwiches...

Well, in so much as you could sit and eat them with a fork/spoon, yes .... holding them? NO way. These are plate served and they are UHmazingly good.... Dessert, really. two could share one. IN OCTOBER they wont melt as fast :rolleyes1

Totally agree about the Giraffes, that is it! It is all in the eyes!! :) They really are funny to watch.

Bugs?! :scared: OH dear.... can't wait to hear about that one, definitely something you have to roll with....

Yes, must be two areas, so when you stay there again, check it out. A great place to walk out to from Sanaa if you try it!!!!

How in the world did I miss the giraffe update!!!

First off all that Safari Eeyore is adorable and he did look ready to take on Kilamanjaro LOL!!!!

That giraffe interaction is amazing and I'm in awe and a bit jealous I would love to get that close to some of the animals LOL!

Glad Charles was able to join you...did he remember where Pizzafari was after you guys returned there LOL!!!!!!

Seeing animals with Night vision goggles is just too cool for words!!

Great update Jackie!! Loved It!

Next time you eat at Boma (or when you stay at AKL), go check out the night vision viewing -- very cool!

That's the same thing I say to Charles!

Joining in a little late, but am LOVING your tr.

After quite a hectic year, I can finally come back :)

The photos of AKL are beautiful.

Jen!!! Oh my goodness! I am so excited that you are back!!! :yay: How have you been? Love that your headed back in August! Where are you staying this time?

Great update! I LOVE that giraffe picture...I think she wanted to come back to the hotel with you guys! :lmao: She was so beautiful!

Thank you! I would have gladly taken her back with us -- she seemed very well-behaved! LOL!

Then that shall be the one Trent and Jarvis drop off at your house! :)
I hope you have some nice tall trees for her to browse in!

I had my Animal Kingdom CD in this morning as I was driving, and I was thinking of how close we are to being there. :yay:

I got a couple of pics of the lion just as it was walking out for the morning (it was about 8:25):

What an awesome giraffe encounter! :cool1: I would so frame both of those photos. :thumbsup2

And in my world, it's the boys who have the long eyelashes.

Way cool on the giraffe picture! I love giraffes, they seem so gentle and peaceful. The zoo near us has a baby we saw this week, just amazing!

Sounds like a nice relaxing late afternoon/evening. Are there multiple places at AKL where you can view with the night vision goggles? That sounds really cool!

And Charles made it for a ride! Woooo hoooo! Now you are starting to get some of your monies worth! :rotfl2:
