Turning 40 was not depressing. Turning 50 was not either. But 60, now that just sounds OLD !
I don't think I'll be depressed over turning 40. I make jokes about it, but I don't think it will really bother me. I don't know. I guess we'll see how I feel when it actually happens. lol

Ugh! I spoke too soon.

My hip went out right after I picked up my race bib and shirt yesterday afternoon and the pain kept me from sleeping last night. It's way too late to try to squeeze in an hour of sleep, so now I get to do a race on zero sleep today. Yawn, I've been awake since 05:30 Friday. Looks like sleep will be my reward for finishing today. :D

The good news is that my hip is pretty much back in place so I'm able to walk around the house without pain this morning. Hopefully the 1-1/4 hour drive to the race site won't cause any issues. Wish me luck ladies!

I'm sorry about your hip! That sucks. I hope you do well in the race and are able to catch up on some sleep afterward! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Morning all!!

Steph thanks so much for checking in with us! I am sorry your doc was unable to perform the procedure. Does this mean you will have to do it again down the road? Glad to hear you are feeling ok at least!

Kathy I am so sorry about your hip. I saw that you are still going. Are you going to try and walk it or are you just going to go and watch now? I wasn't quite sure what you meant. What a bummer! I hope it feels better soon!

Mel people can flame me too but I am with you and I have always liked Scotty. I think the reason a lot of people don't think of him as an idol contender is because people think of this show as more of a show for rock or pop stars and not for country singers even though it has made a huge star of carrie underwood but she also is kind of a crossover so she is a bit different. I personally like country music and think he has a GREAT voice. I WAS shocked about James though and thought for sure he would be in the finals. He wasn't my favorite singer but I DO think he has talent and that he will go on to have a career perhaps in a band. Look at Chris Daughtery. He went on and did great things and didn't win so not winning is not always a bad thing! I agree with Katie as well that although I am not a huge fan of Haley that when she sings the "right" song like House of the Rising Sun she DOES have an amazing voice but she is limited in what she can sing. It will def be interesting!

Cheryl I am sorry that this happened to you as well and think it is so unfair when they do stuff like this for them not to think about how it affects the kids they do it to. I esp felt like if they were going to make this transition they should have decided it and then not put it into effect until at LEAST the following year so that the current year's kids had time to get used to the idea and finish out their time since it was just thrown at us. And again because of the ramifications I have mentioned. I agree that I wish other parents would stand with me and complain to more than just eachother and to the higher ups. It seems everyone I talk to either also has older or younger kids and doesn't seem to see it as a big deal or just doesn't want to make waves. I have NO problem saying something though LOL but I don't know that it will do much good. He seems to think that this "breakfast" is satisfactory. :(

I guess to me what makes me the most sad is that Lynn got all of these memories and Shelby will get them but poor Katy always seems to get the shaft. It has happened quite a bit to her. She got a HORRIBLE teacher for 4th grade who was down right mean to her and gave her bad grades last year and did some terrible things like tear up some of her assignments and I KNOW my child is not a bad student. In fact she is in the 95th percentile in STAR testing and even made the Honors program for next year. Up till last year she had all proficient's and advanced on her report cards and all outstandings in every category on her citizenship and this lady gave her all below averages and S- in citizenship. A kid just does not change over night like that. And of course THIS year she is back to the high grades and all O's again. So I just feel like she has gotten the bum rush and there have been other things but I don't want to go on and on but I just feel bad for her. It seems like it is always her that has this happen and as a parent I want to fix it ya know.

Anyway everyone at my house is all still passed out LOL. Shane is going to his friends house today so I am trying to think of something fun for the girls and I to do but naturally the weather is getting ugly again LOL. The temp has dropped and it has clouded up and by tonight we are supposed to get thunderstorms. Don't get me wrong I like the rain and we have needed it but I must say at this point I think enough is enough LOL.

I am ready for some sun!! ;)

I hope you all have a GREAT day whatever you do and a good weekend!!

Hi everyone! Hope you are all having a good Saturday so far.

Here it's just me and my girls. Ruben and Adam are in CA for the weekend. So we rented a bunch of movies, made some brownies, and are just kicking back. :goodvibes We just watched Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. I know Adam will be bummed he missed it. :lmao:

Beth sounds good to me!!

Sometimes those are the most fun days!! Katy really wants to enter something in the state fair and she is the "chef" of the family and loves to cook and bake so her and my mom got the idea to make some jam.

We have pomegranete trees but we didn't get around to making any jelly when the pomegranets are ripe which is in the fall so we are going to do Cherry and also some pickles.

As always it happens to be RIGHT when we are supposed to go to OR so hopefully we can get everything accomplished and entered. The deadline to enter is my birthday LOL. So many things happening that day (all the stuff at DL and now this go figure LOL) but anyway she doesn't actually have to drop the stuff off though till the first day of the fair which is July 14th and we are supposed to leave on the 17th. We may try to go to the fair on the 15th cuz they will judge the jellies that day but they don't judge the pickles till after we are gone. But it will still be really fun for her.

If this goes well next year she wants to maybe try entering some baked goods. They have several different sponsered contests from companies like C&H sugar, Fleishmans etc that have cash prizes as well as ribbons. So it will be really fun for her.

Anyway so we were out shopping for our "supplies" this morning and now we are just vegging but tomorrow we are going to mom to make some test batches. Hopefully it all works out! Canning is a lot of work and the fair has a lot of rules but I think it will be really fun if it all goes well.

Oh and Beth it is funny you mentioned Bieber. Both my girls claimed they hated him but Shelby bought a poster with her birthday money and Katy saw a Bieber one and had to have it. She now likes him ;) So I guess I will have to rent the movie! Is it good? I have heard good things.

Have a good rest of your day and weekend!!

Hi ladies! :goodvibes
I have so much reading back to do...at least a month's worth lol! I hope you all are well. Life has been crazy busy! But good. Life is good and I am SOOOO looking forward to February.:thumbsup2

Well, hopefully I can get some catching up on the thread. Miss you all

The movie wasn't bad. All my girls say they hate Justin Bieber, and we did skip through a few of the concert clips, but all in all it was really interesting to see what his life is like. So many people are counting on him, and the brand that he's become. It's a lot of pressure!! He seems like a good kid, and I love how he treats his fans.

Hope Katy enjoys her canning and baking.

Miss you all
Miss you, too!!

I'm watching Piers Morgan interview Chaz Bono and his girlfriend. She does not come across as being very sincere to me. Not showing much emotion. Wonder why? Anybody see the show?

Are you on medical leave from work now? Keep resting and keep happy thoughts. Like DL !

I was given Friday off to recuperate from the procedure. I return to work tomorrow.

I hope you all are having a nice weekend.:goodvibes

Steph- That really stinks that you didn't get to go through with your procedure. Keeping you in my prayers that you get the problem resolved without too much **heartache** (pun intended)...

Kathy- Hope you have enough umph to get the race done, without any pain (that sounds PAINFUL and doing it on no sleep makes it worse).

Beth- My girls were over the Biebs, even took down all the posters, then we watched the movie last night and the posters went back up. I hadn't watched it in theaters and I'm ashamed to admit...I have the fever now too. He is such a sweetheart. That is the kid every mom wants to marry their daughter (well, minus the millions of girls trying to steal him away, lol).

Kelly- Can the parents throw a "party" on their own? Our school doesn't acknowledge 5th grade "promotion" so the parents formed a booster club and fundraised to have a swim party at the local public pool. No official ceremony type thing but the kids do pick "class bests" & personal quotes like in HS (best smile, best personality, most likely to succeed & every kid gets to include their quote or favorite memory of elementary school) and we put it together like a mini yearbook that the kids can all sign. We have the pool, a DJ, food & a photo booth. Maybe the school would support something like that so it doesn't take away from the 6th graders hoopla?

Katie- I'm liking the adult conversation in Vegas suggestion, lol. Maybe after school is out and I have all this free time..

I have PAGES to read to catch back up. It's been so busy around here I can't keep my head above water. I thought we were supposed to be winding down at the end of the school year. Seems like it's getting busier!
I started running again Friday. I forgot how GREAT it feels after mile 2. Hoping to to work my way up to a 7-8 mile run within a month and maybe lose some weight while I'm at it!
Have a blessed day, remember to tell your loved ones how much they are loved (long story, but working in law enforcement we get that wake up call every once in a while) and enjoy it all! I'll be trudging through the rain trying to make it til my 530PM end of shift!

Andrea at this point ANYTHING that we could do that would give this group of kids something would be great but between the school thinking their lame breakfast is good enough and half the parents thinking it's either no big deal or not wanting to make waves it is a real problem. I have talked to people that don't like it but I feel like I am the only one that will actually say or DO anything about it.

I realize not all schools have this but here in our town they do and since up till this year most of the schools went to the 6th grade it was always a tradition for the 6th graders to get to go on a camping trip, get some really cool field trips and then of course get this graduation or promotion into middle school at the end of the year. This year it is an odd siutation becuase our school STILL has 6th graders but because of this unique situation the 5th graders are ALSO leaving and moving on. And like I said I told the principal I am not trying to take anything away from the 6th graders and fully feel that they need to have their own special day but I don't think that the 5th graders should get NOTHING either since NEXT year when there are ONLY 5th graders they will be the oldest and get all the privileges that the previous 6th graders used to get "including" a promotion.

So who knows what will happen. The principal knows my beef and I plan to talk to some of the other parents again but at this point it is getting so close I don't know if there is enough time to do much else :(

On another topic last week I think I mentioned that we had a boy from our swim team family that was killed in a car wreck well then I read yesterday that 2 young girls were killed LAST night in another wreck AND one of my good friends who lives in South Carolina had a 12 year old girl from her church killed last night as well ALSO in a car accident. I mean it seems like every time I turn around I hear about kids being killed and it is SO sad. I don't know what it is about this time of year but it just makes me so sad for these families. It really hit home though with this little girl. She is just about Katy's age. A 6th grader and her mom was driving the car. I can't even IMAGINE the guilt that poor woman must be feeling and the pain!

Anyway just makes me thank god and hug my kids a little tigher that's for sure!

We are off to try this canning today! Wish us luck LOL we are going to need it!!

Have a good day everyone!

Hi Ladies!

I've been keeping up with this thread but haven't posted too much lately. Darn life getting in the way:( We've had terrible weather and a flu/cold that won't seem to die. It hasn't all been bad though, my Dh is a manager at a grocery store about 45 minutes away and he just got transferred to the store here in town so his new commute is 6 minutes. I love that I can pop in and see him anytime I want. We also bought a new SUV and are hoping to buy a travel trailer so we can do some fun road trips.
This week Brad and I are going to Seattle overnight since he bought me Mary Poppins tickets for my birthday!

Here it's just me and my girls. Ruben and Adam are in CA for the weekend. So we rented a bunch of movies, made some brownies, and are just kicking back. :goodvibes We just watched Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. I know Adam will be bummed he missed it. :lmao:

My DS6 and DD5 are huge fans, it's Justin Bieber all day every day around here. They saw the 3d movie in theaters and Keira said it was like he touched her!

So are the 5th graders still going to get to go camping next year or get to do ANY of the activities? IN our district there are certain activities that are done at each level (ie Rancho days in 4th, science camp in 5th) are they totally missing out on everything because they move to the new school?
I'm angry on your behalf! Lets get a committee together and plan a better party then the 6th graders are having! Find 2 other parents that are fired up too and take advantage of the complacent parents by asking them for the $$. You can always count on them to hand it over rather then having to lift a finger.
Can you call a meeting of the 5th grade parents to plan something? Can you ask your PTA for help fund it? Best way to solve a problem is to come up with a plan of attack that the principal can't argue with..

Thanks for the supportive words Beth, Kelly & Andrea. I made it across the finish line yesterday!!! There were some tears along the way, some pain relievers at the end, and it certainly wasn't a PR, but I made it! Grabbed my medal, showered at the Y, then headed home for some much needed sleep.

My hip is still out today, but the pain isn't quite as bad. I'm going to try to get in to the chiropractor tomorrow to get this hip back in.

What a fun girls weekend for you!

Had a blast at DLR last week. It was a little crowded on Monday, but much nicer on Tues & Wed. This will be my last for awhile since my AP expires today. Love DLR quick trips!

Nope, not me. Was it interesting?

Yes, he would make a nice son-in-law, minus all those other girls throwing themselves at him! I actually feel sorry for any girls he dates. Talk about competition. I saw girls in the audience from age 4 or 5, all the way up to their 20's!

Anyway just makes me thank god and hug my kids a little tigher that's for sure!
So sad. But I agree, thank God and hug our kids tight!

Hey Angie! Sorry you've been sick. Bummer.
Good news about Brad's transfer. How nice for you both! I love road trips so I am jealous you're gonna get a new travel trailer. What style/brand?
Enjoy your time in Seattle! What a sweet thing for him to do for you. :)

Hi Girls! I am so far behind, but I hope you are all doing well!
Hi Tina! How's life treating ya? Is work keeping you busy?

Thanks for the supportive words Beth, Kelly & Andrea. I made it across the finish line yesterday!!!
Good for you!! I knew you'd make it. Take care now, and I hope a visit to the chiro can help.

I cannot believe the weekend is almost over. This one really flew by!!!
It was nasty hot yesterday, but today it's been gorgeous!! Cool and breezy, sunny but not hot, love it.

Ruben and Adam made it back this afternoon from the reunion. They had a nice time. He said people were asking for me and the girls, but honestly it just costs too much to rent a minivan, and Noelle had a ton of homework, so we decided to skip it. Plus I don't know very many of his extended family. :rolleyes1

Well, I hope everyone had a great weekend. We are counting down to the end of school here. About 3 more weeks. I'm already over it. LOL Bring on summer break!!!!! :cool1:  :yay:

Speaking of which, are y'all still interested in a "Summer Exchange"? Just want to make sure before I post it. :)

TTYL!

Dropping in :wave2: I wish I could keep up more but I read up when I can. I figure since Im listening to the Sharks/Canucks game online (stupid Versus being a channel I don't get) I would come say hello!

Beth - I love the exchanges. Not so sure I can do another one right now but if you post it I'll consider it. Good news is I'm picking up more hours at work.

Steph~ Sorry to hear about your heart - I hope that it all works out for you and you get better quickly

Wish me luck ladies!
The race is over, but I am glad to see you made it though. I always tell myself that finishing is the most important part!

So bummed I missed Bieber.....:rolleyes1

Count me in! I was thinking I would let my boys do this one, still thinking if I want to do it as well....3 boxes to ship can get pricey!

The weather is nutso today! My DH works right down the street from our house and just called to say that lightening struck his building and scared the crap out of him!

This morning I had my 5th half marathon race for the year :) The Lodi Avenue of the Vines HM was so pretty and had an amazing goodie bag. I was a little nervous with the pending storm, but the rain held off until I was finished and back in my car. The best part of it all was that I made a new personal record for myself of 2:37:04  Since I was up at 4:30am to get ready and get down to Lodi, I came home, showered, and crashed until 3. My legs are still a little sore, but otherwise I am feeling good.

Does anyone know when we start planning the meet n greet? I haven't heard anything yet and was curious.

Hi everybody!!! I hope that it was a good weekend had by all. Madison had her 11th birthday party Friday night - 8 girls for pizza, skating and slumber party. I may be getting too old for this - I was beat on Saturday. :rotfl2: She even thought about taking a nap, never happened but she actually thought about it. She's not a big napper - stopped when she was 3 years old. My friend had a Luau on Saturday night. Unfortunately, the weather in Nor Cal has been cold and windy with rain and hail. We still had a good time inside. If there are any beer drinkers out there, they had the new Costco beer (Kirkland Brand) at the party and it was pretty good. Not sure of the price but I'm sure it was priced right.

Steph-You've been in my thoughts. I hope that everything works out for you and the doctors are able to find out what needs to be done.

Mel-All I can say is I feel for you. Eye infections are the worst. If you have some tea bags around you can use them on your eyes. It will help relieve the pain. Just make sure to wear an old tshirt or towel because the tea will stain the clothes.

Beth-I would be interested in the exchange. Is it like the stocking exchange? I'm sure Madison would enjoy shopping for goodies.

Jen-You are amazing with all the runs you compete in. I wish I had 1/100 of the energy (and ability) you do.

Well, the laundry calls. I hope everyone has a great week!!

Jodi

We started up at the end of summer last year & communicated mostly thru FB.....not sure who will head up our team this time with Katie moving on, but you'll be messaged when we get started!!
