Distinguishing between Direct & Resale

I just received our member package from DVC. I just wanted everyone to know that DVC is distinguishing between direct and resale even if you bought before 3/20, as is our case. Right above my address on the mailing label, are the words "VWL-RESALEPK" in small print. I seriously don't mind being labeled a "resale" as long as it doesn't affect the way that we're treated when it comes to making reservations and pre-3/20 perks...

Interesting, i would think the initial packet would be the same for direct and pre-3/20 resale. I guess they just sent you the post 3/20 packet or "the resale packet".... As an experiment you may want to call and see if you can use your points for a cruise. That will be the final deciding factor. The question I have, will they really make the distinction a decade down the road of pre or post 3/20 points or will they all quietly become "resale points" and you will have to make a scene to trade out. Personally, we are keeping a copy of the Disney paperwork stating when it cleared ROFR so if push comes to shove we can challenge Disney and prove it cleared ROFR before 3/20... The Saga Continues... popcorn::

Could it be that they've always labeled these as such? In other words, does anybody know if a resale from a year ago was labeled resale? Do they just label them as resale and direct, just for some internal clerical purpose?

Would be interested in anybody who bought resale well before 3/20 remembers if their member package was labeled resale, if it was labeled at all.

I thought I had read on here somewhere that those purchasing resale have never received the same big Fedex box full of "stuff" that those purchasing direct receive. If so that would imply that they've always sent a different member package to resale buyers.

I posted this elsewhere, but will repeat here as this discussion seems more appropriate.

Did anyone submit a contract for ROFR pre 3/21 but have it clear after and confirm that they are unrestricted points? While I understand what the resellers and others have said about only needing be submitted for ROFR by 3/20, the truth is in the pudding.

We now have people passing ROFR post 3/20 who submitted before and hopefully someone can confirm that even if noted as a resale that all benefits are intact.

Also of note per a previous posters question - anyone who passed ROFR pre-3/21, can you confirm if this was true on your paperwork as well?

This is true. Usually there is a special tote bag, whatever that direct buyers receive in addition to general paperwork. Resale and direct buyers do get different member "packages" from DVC.

I sure hope this is the case. I have it in writing from all 3 major resellers that all benefits are intact for all contracts submitted for ROFR pre-3/20. Ours was submitted on 2/24, came out on 3/21. Still waiting on closing docs so I have not received anything yet that details benefits.

We started both our UY's with resale purchases and never received anything more than our member cards from DVC but our resale points always have been labeld as resale to MS and our guide.

My concern is that Disney IT will be involved somehow in order to show the pre 3/20 designation. I could see that being glitchy in some cases.

I recieved the exact same box last month after purchasng the resale contract as I recieved a couple months ago for my Disney purchased contract -
The one with member point books and stuff but when I purchased the 1st contract I got
seperate blue box /packet thing with copies and all that of legal paperwork and I think my
membership cards maybe where in there ???
Anyway I did get the points books and stuff ,but should there have been a packet or something with more legal stuff ???

I purchased a contract after the announcement but before 3/20, and was able to use the points for the Disney Collection already. DH and I are both running the Disneyland Half and VGC is completely full the night before, so we used points to book a room at Paradise Pier. The CM at MS was great and didn't mention anything about my contract being resale. My points were just loaded in the system last week.

The question is, did you pass ROFR and close prior to 3/20 also? I'm curious about those who submit 3/20 or before but pass ROFR and close after 3/20. Looks like you probably passed ROFR prior to 3/20.

No, we closed on the 24th. Though I am suspicious because we used Fidelity and I got an email the next week saying "we just closed your file!". So I bet we acutally closed on the 29th.

So we bought after the announcement, and closed after 3/20, but were able to use our points for the Disney Collection. And the CM was super nice and never mentioned the resale. We had purchased our first contract resale right before the announcement (we were in ROFR when that happened) and this contract had the same use year and was just added to our online account though, not sure if that would make a difference or not. But we used mostly points from the new contract for the rooms in CA.

Hmmm, we did pass ROFR on Feb. 28th though. I was hoping to close before 3/20 so that there would definitely be no question on the benefits, but it took a REALLY long time to close on the points through Fidelity.

Hoping this is still good news to everyone though! I did get a FedEx box on my first contract with 2010 and 2011 Vacation Planners, and some paperwork, but nothing that said "Resale" as far as I can tell. And I got my blue membership cards already, and they don't seem to say resale anywhere either.

The CMs have all been SUPER nice, I've already made three reservations and purchased APs, and nobody has made me feel "second class" or anything.

Good luck on the half marathon:cheer2:
Can you rundown the timeline again on your purchase? Did it real take almost 4 weeks to close after passing ROFR?:scared1:
It's pretty scary to be stuck in limbo, having passed ROFR before 3/20, but closing after.

Don't forget to visit the new Aulani models when you're there, think it's open now.

There are Aulani models in CA? We will be at WDW in May at BWV and again in Feb at SSR in a THV and I was thinking about maybe visiting during the Feb trip.

YES it took that long to close...I swear Fidelity just decided that they wait two weeks before sending out the closing packet. I closed my first contract with Jaki and it was MUCH faster.

We bought a VB, and an SSR resale in the fall, and we were members since 2003. In February we received 2 boxes with point information, and in small letters above our name on the one box that I still have, it says "SSRRESALEPK." I never bothered to open both boxes because we already had the information as members. I did open the "VB" box to see just what the contents were, but there was nothing new in it, and I put the SSR package aside.

Bobbi:goodvibes

I bought Direct from Disney last summer and the only thing I got as a perk was a bigger bill!!! They don't do the bags anymore!

We did our first purchase direct and they sent us two hats, which was very nice. I would not worry about the trinkets. They will give you tons of them at the parties and greet and meets. I would assume the guide is responsible for those items and with resale you don't have a guide initially or your guide is not involved. There really isn't anything in the initial packet that is important or can't be downloaded from the Members website (really the rules and POS are the important items).
