Long, Long time lurker - Now finally registered and posting. :goodvibes

We are staying in a cabin in January. Super excited, but my cheapskate hubby and I are in disagreement over renting a golf cart. I know there is an internal bus to take to the main bus stop where you catch the buses to the parks. We're not big on waiting so he thinks we can walk to the main bus stop, I think we should get a cart and drive. Can anyone tell me the distance between the cabins and the main bus stop? How long do you think it would take to walk? Am I right and a golf cart is the way to go? :thumbsup2

Thanks.

The answer to that depends on which cabin loop you are assigned to. Just playing around with Google maps, I get a maximum distance of .7 miles and a minimum distance of .3 miles. The walking time estimates are from 12 to 6 minutes, respectively. I have never walked it, and I don't know if there are any shortcuts. I can say that, after a long day walking through theme parks, it is good to get back and catch a bus or golf cart to our site. The last thinng we want is more walking.

When it was just my wife and I, we used the internal buses. Now that our party has grown, we find the golf carts to be more versatile.

If it helps, make sure you check out the offsite GC rental companies. Their rates are waaaaaaaay cheaper than Disney. More info HERE

The buses on the internal loops come pretty darn often. We have stayed up near the 2100/2200 loops and both the purple and orange buses stop at those stops - you get one about every 5 minutes or more. I doubt that walking to the main bus stop at the outpost or settlement would be faster, unless you're a serious walker. In Jan, you'll probably have nice walking weather.

We've vowed not to go back in the summer months without renting a cart. I don't think it's as big a deal in the cooler weather, though.

The buses ran very often. We stay in the 1700 loop and usually walk or bike to the outpost or marina. We do take the buses when it rains. It's not a bad walk and there is a well lit sidewalk. We never rent a cart, but there are people who wouldn't stay without one. Just a personal preference I guess.

Thanks everyone. That doesn't seem like a terrible walk and I'm glad to hear the buses are pretty fast. I was a bit worried after reading the unofficial guide. It seemed we would be waiting a long time and I get antsy to get in the parks. I guess if we save the money on the golf cart we could spend more on souveniers, right????

Since my trips are typically solo, I can't justify the expense for a golf cart. I didn't have any problem getting around using the bus system. I've stayed in the 2200 and 2400 loops. I walked from the Meadow pool complex back to my cabin in the 2400 loop in about 10 minutes. I had just missed a bus, and I made it back to my cabin before the next bus stopped at my loop. I would think it would be a very reasonable walk from the 2800 loop to the Outpost depot, especially in cooler weather. I don't know that I'd want to walk back late at night though, with all the wildlife in the area. I'd probably use the bus.
