Dissapointed with World of Color

Sometimes I see something I like and can understand how others might not like it. Other times it is hard for me to understand how others would not like it. World of Color is the latter.

I speculated here that the bulk of the negative reactions to WOC were caused by poor viewing area design and/or late show attendance.

I am not saying everyone must agree with me. That would be very narrow minded. We just had such an overwhelming experience when we had a good view at an early show. In my speculation link above I compared it to our experience with Fantasmic this summer seeing early and late shows.

I haven't seen WoC, yet. I will later this month.

My sister and BIL saw it in Aug, from the VIP section (the best view available) and there comment was, "It's overrated".

I will reserve judgement until I do see it. However, from what I have seen on the net, I'm not thinking it will be something I will want to see over and over for years to come, like I do with F!.

I loved WOC for the neat tricks they do with water and lights and music. It wasn't the pictures that interested me, but I kept say "How do they do that with water?". That is what I went to see and I wasn't expecting a story. But I understand how some might. When Indiana Jones first opened I went on it and was disappointed because I was expecting a rollercoaster. I was thinking "That wasn't fast". A year or so later I tried it again and began to think of it as a ride like POTC where you see things and I now I like it.

We went to see F! for the first time in 10 years and there were a few wow moments like the dragon, but for my family not enough wow factor to see it again for at least a few more years.

RDCT does not have a story, but it has a theme. I think calling the theme a "celebration of color" is a cop out. Had they carried the Wonderful World of Color song throughout the show, I might have bought that, but without something connecting the clips, it's just Disney's greatest hits (and some not-so-hits).

Hmmm. Interesting point. It seems like so many of us, and rightly so, judge a show based on our emotional response to it. And in many cases, our emotional response the first time we experience something just "sticks".

Then afterwards we try and figure out why we had a certain emotional response either positive or negative.

Based on the poll I created WOC is running a distant third to RDCT and Fantasmic. So you have lots of company.

Loved the music and water fountains. Didn't like the video projections. Too long to wait and too much hype. Wish they just ran the fountains and music all evening and one could stop for few minutes and enjoy.

It's easy. There is no Aladdin showing today.

Besides I would say Aladdin is a standard attraction while WoC is more like and area show, along with the parades and Fireworks.

i have seen WoC three times once from preffered dinning, once from blue fp, once from red fp, and i loved it all three times, the only disappointment was the way they set up the "holding area" before the show, everything about the show, besides the crappy pre-show is awesome, they still need to figure out a better way of getting people into the correct areas without all the CHAOS!!!

We loved it. The color was breathtaking and the little vignettes broadcast onto moving water made the characters come alive. Even my husband, who hates waiting in lines, said it was worth the wait. I would absolutely do it again.

Aladdin closed last week until early October. The once-rumored permanent closure has been postponed indefinitely.

I was somewhat disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it and I was impressed by it, but it didn't give me the lovely tingly goosebumps that I was hoping for. There were too many sections that were unnecessary (Finding Nemo, Wall-E, the bit before Pocahontas), and too many parts that seemed like the end and weren't. It felt a little too mish-mashy.

I've seen it 6 times now - twice from Paradise Park, twice from my room in the Grand Californian villas, once from the GC terrace, and once from my room in PPH. It's been interesting seeing it from so many angles. Watching it from above, without being able to see the projection, is better than watching it from a 'bad' position in PP (as we did on our first viewing), IMO.

I went in with low expectations based on some reviews from this board, but I was blown away. In fact, I stood there with a huge smile on my face throughout the entire show and was so enthralled that I actually ended up crying at a certain scene (no spoilers though).

I really enjoyed it.

I was about to say the same thing, and I know exactly where you cried because I balled my eyes out and I couldn't help it, even when it finished I was crying. I was absolutely blown away!

I have two quibbles with World of Color (both of which have been stated before by others).

1) I don't like the viewing arrangement. My kids had a tough time seeing anything. Factor in adults having kids on their shoulders, and it becomes difficult to see anything unless you are at the railing. I'm not sure why the viewing area isn't gently slopped, or have steps/risers, or why they don't ask people to sit during the entire show (giving smaller kids the opportunity to crouch and/or stand to view the show better). As it is now, the show projections aren't high enough to allow good viewing to all.

2) The lack of a story didn't bother me so much as the show didn't seem to build. After 10 minutes, I felt like I had seen everything that was going to happen. The grand finale lacked the punch I would have liked. At times, it only seemed like a show of cool things that could be done with water jets, music, and projections (with a bit of fire thrown in). The potential is there, and I hope that this is just the beginning of tapping into it.

Overall, my family and I liked the show. It may take repeated viewings to appreciate some of the subtleties I missed the first time around.

I've been waiting since the beginning of this thread for someone to say that because I wanted to see how long it took. I may have missed it before, but this is the first time I've seen it mentioned

That's all well and good, if you had a good impression to begin with. I've seen fantasmic probably 50 times now, I pick up something new each time I see it that I hadn't noticed before. But they got me to view it 50 times, because the very first time I was blown away by it.

I'll probably see WoC again at some point, but I wasn't wowed enough by it the first time to make it any sort of priority.
