Dissapointed with BCV

We've been here since Saturday and have one problem after the other. First the cold water in the sink didn't work, called engineering and they came and fixed. The next day, no water. I mean NO WATER at all! Couldn't shower, had to brush our teeth with spring water. It was fixed by that evening.

No, last night 4:00 AM, the smoke alarm starts beeping and wakes me up. No electricity in the room. The hallways are lit up and I hear activity going on. I call the front desk and they said they are doing "tests". Very noisy!

I can't wait till I check out and give them a piece of my mind!

We have our family trip planned here for next year, but after that, I think we'll stay at the BWV from now on.

Some of it may be because of repairs and water pressure because of the hurricanes. We were at BCV in July and had a marvelous time. We will be returning in Feb. and in July 2005. It really is a wonderful resort and I'm sorry you've had such problems.

It is our favorite place!

Pleae send a letter to DVC's Member Satisfaction Manager.

The written word is so much more powerful than giving a low level employee a piece of your mind. I'd still do that, too, but ask for the resort manager - if you're already planning to do that, just ignore the unsolicitied suggestion, LOL.

It does seem odd to test smoke alarms at night - better to do it during the middle of the day, IMHO! Also, they should have warned you they were going to do it. Left a letter in your room or something ahead of time, especially if the electricity was going to be out.

Best wishes -

Love the location, but I think DVC got "took" by the contractor. On my stay last winter the kitchen cabinets were falling apart.

Could be they did not mean to "test" the smoke detectors. I know here, when the power goes off, the wired smoke detectors sound off as they switch over to battery. Bet they cut the power to do something and ......................

We had a great trip to BCV shortly after it opened. My whole family loved it!

However, as an OKW owner, I would have to say OKW RULES

::yes::

I should probably don my flame-retardant gear before this one...

You know, I understand the POV that for every negative post regarding any resort there are dozens or hundreds of positive posts that never get written. But, all things being equal, why is it that there seem to be so many BCV negative complaints? Doesn't it stand to reason that we should see twice as many complaints coming out of BWV or three times as many out of OKW due to the greater sizes of these resorts?

I just keep thinking to myself "where there's smoke, there's fire" (no pun intended.)

We have one night reserved at BCV later in the year. Obviously I'm not anticipating any problems, but I'll certainly be on guard.

Yes. Absolutely a terrible thing, and everyone who doesn't own at BCV should IMMEDIATELY cancel all future reservations. Especially this December so I can tweak my dates. Its been full for months now... :teeth:

OK - all joking aside, I'm sorry for the OP's problems. Its never fun to deal with problems on vacation - but waiting until you check out is almost worthless. HOW can they do anything about your stay THEN? If something bothers us enough to complain about it, we do it immediately. Then when we get home we send off a letter of complaint or thanks depending on how our situation was handled.

Up until now, just asking to have something corrected has always worked at ALL the DVC resorts. After 3 stays at VWL and 2 at BCV we have not had any major problems at either one. At Vero we had to have our washer/dryer combo replaced TWICE before it would work correctly. And in July at BWV, our air conditioner was locked on the ARCTIC setting, and could not be persuaded otherwise. Oh, and the fan added a nice arctic howl to provide some atmosphere as well! ;)

The trips went on, and we had a FANTASTIC time at all the resorts. Problems arising don't bother us - that's life. Now if we reported them, and Disney ignored them, THEN I'd be on the warpath. We've received nothing but friendly, courteous and timely responses to any problem we ran into so far. And that is as it should be.

As to BCV having more problems - well, I think it could have to do with a few things. First and foremost, everyone is super-sensitive to problems there BECAUSE of the run on negative threads on the board. So - people go in looking for trouble and like to come back and report their troubles as well. I didn't feel the need to report either our Vero or BWV problems - they had little affect on our trips overall. Second, from what I can tell, BCV has very high occupancy all the time. With so few units, and the popularity of the resort the rooms DO take a beating.

And as to shoddy construction - maybe it was the brother-in-law of the guy who sided the BWV... HOW many years has it taken to get the siding redone? Well, I certainly wouldn't want to be in construction and have Disney after me for shoddy work. I believe the above mentioned BWV siders have since gone out of business... So, if things are falling apart, make sure BCV management hears about it!

Anyway - I'll be looking forward to my December stay (and won't even be onguard- I'll be expecting a great stay!). And if any one cancels - let me know so I can add a couple days!

Sorry to hear of all of the problems on this trip. I hope your next trip goes better for you.

I couldn't agree more. Why on earth would you wait until you checked out?? What good will that do you? I would have been at the front desk and talked to the resort manager lright away. I would have requested a different room. One that actually had running water. If my request was not met, then I would start demanding. I do not expect everything to be 100% on every vacation. Things happen.......yes, even at Disney. However, no running water is not acceptable. Testing smoke alarms for the fun of it at 4am is not acceptable. It is entirerly possible that they are experiencing problems from all the storms. I am an understanding person and again, I do not expect everything to be perfect everytime. If the rest of the facility had running water though, I would certainly expect the same for my room. Get down to that front desk NOW.

As for cancelling your next trip, that is entirerly up to you. However, why would you cancel? There have been some problems and they have been fixed. Has it been perfect? No. Have you done anything to make it better? No. If you had a bad meal at a restaurant, would you complain then or would you wait until you returned home and then write a letter?

I would be disappointed if I had had that many problems too, but I also wonder if problems with the plumbing or electricity were due in some way to the hurricanes. We were at the BCV for the first time in August and I was concerned about possible problems with the accommodations since I had read so many complaints on these boards. We arrived on the day of Hurricane Charley and our room was ready at 1:00 when we got there. Our room was perfect and clean and everything was just as it should be for our entire 9 day stay. I was amazed at how well the CM's kept everything running smoothly despite the fact that they were working 20 hour shifts to cover for those who could not get in after the hurricane. We fell in love with the Beach Club and will stay there again and again.princess: pirate:

Sorry you're having problems. All my stays have been perfect, but I guess sometimes stuff happens. Maybe is has something to do with the hurricanes and flooding going on in that area.

I've got the OP beat by a mile. My dishwasher didn't work, had to be replaced. The A/C wasn't working right because no one changed the filter. The ceiling fan is making noise. The landscaping is a mess, grass needs cutting. "Dust bunnies" everywhere.

Man.... I can't wait to get out of this house and check into BCV in 28 days.

You know it would be nice if when we go on vacation we could go to "Perfectville". You know that place that Walgreens advertises on their commercials, where nothing ever goes wrong.

Well it don't exist. And while we would all love to have a "perfect" vacation, stuff happens. I mean it happens at your home and it happens at hotels.

If they did not deal with what happened, I would be upset. I would not be upset it happened.

As many have stated there are a lot of problems on property right now due to Charley and Frances.

There are also a lot of CM's that don't have homes right now and maybe they are a little distracted right now and things are not completely up to par.

There is no guarantee that you won't have problems at the BWV too. Hopefully not but it does happen.

That was great!! Thanks so much for the laugh.

"had to brush our teeth with spring water."

And the big deal with this is??? I do this every trip because the water tastes so bad.

I also would not be upset about these. They are not signs of mismanagement in my opinion.

Sorry you had problems - but you have to think that no water at all must have meant the entire resort had an issue - not just your room? That can certainly happen anywhere, and without warning, so give them a break.

As for the alarms "testing" them would be inexcusable at that time of night - but you know front desk CMs don't always know what's going on. Maybe that was just their word for it and something else major happened.

But then you say you'll stay there in Dec? Why chance it - move and then you don't have to worry about anything else.

Now I need to go fix my squealing TV...................

Boy I opened up a bloody can of worms!

Don't I get to voice my complaints without being ridiculed!! I thought this was a DVC board and not a "I feel bad for the people with no dishwashers board." I do feel bad for those people who were hit by the hurricane, but that's not the topic here.

Geeze! Lighten up!

BTW- I'm not staying here in Dec, we're staying at the BWV.
My family trip is here with 8 kids in Oct 05and I will "suck up" this "dump" so the kids can play in the pool.;)

I do think BCV has been a little under the microscope as of late. These things posted are aggravating but seem like things that could happen to any resort at any time, especially since they've just come through two major weather systems. I would definitely talk to a manager at now rather than check out.
