Last Thurday 11/13 we rented watermice from the Poly, and were given strict instructions that the dock at the Grand Floridian was "Off-Limits", but at that time were not told why. Around 11:00am we boarded the monorail for Epcot at the TTC and waited for 25 minutes before leaving - all monorail traffic was shut down. When we finally started moving, we saw white vans with flashing lights (and men in suits & sunglasses ;) ) blocking a few road.

Later we discovered it was because President Bush was speaking at a fundraiser at the Grand Floridian!

Any one else stuck on the monorail that day??

It's cool that our president goes to Disney - seems like a year or two ago I heard about a bunch of the Bushes going on a DCL cruise together.

It must have seemed frustrating at the time to be stuck on the monorail, but at least you found out there was a good reason for the tight security measures.

Well, you can't say he "Went to Disney" really. He was in Florida for fund raising. They used the Grand Floridian for an eclusive event. I doubt he went into a park.

Speaking of Presidents at WDW. Wasn't there a famous speech given at WDW back a few Presidents ago? :)

Yes, Richard Nixon's famous " I am not a crook" speech occurred in one of the ballrooms at the Contemporary Resort. The speech was in one of the rooms on the second floor of the Tower; this was before the convention center was built.

I just love the crazy, interesting, Disney knowledge I learn here!

Good trivial persuit question!

you know, my family and I saw a whole bunch of the old Presidents at Disney. They all were hanging out together in one big room. Ben Franklin sure looks good for his age!

;-)
