I read on the Website somewhere that if you have a disney visa, you can get the free dining plan! :cool1:
Does anyone know if this works with the discounted rooms? It doesnt say.

The disney website makes no mention of having to use your Disney Visa card to get this deal, I just checked.

Free Dining booking is usually offered to Disney Visa card holders a few days before the offer is open to the general public. I think free dining is open to GP.

You can only pick one promo - either Free Dining OR a room discount. You can't use both for the same reservation.

So do you have to have the full price room to get the free dining plan?
Does it work with room discounts?
It doesnt say.

In order to get free dining, you must pay rack rate for your room, stay a minimum of 3 nights, and buy at least a 2-day base ticket for each person on the reservation. You can never ever stack two discounts together--EVER.

That stinks! :(
Oh well. Guess no free dining for us!
I would pay rack rate and get the free dining, but the rest of my party (3 other families) don't want to do that!

Thanks for your help!

Everyone in your room must participate in the same dining plan etc if you choose to go that way. If the other families are all in differant rooms you are free to book YOUR room with the free dining promo and they can choose to book their rooms with a room only discount/no free dining. Just because you are a group traveling together doesnt mean all of your rooms have to be booked with the same pomo only that everyone in EACH room has the same promo. Each can simply choose what works best for their family:goodvibes

Hope that helps:)

ITA! The other year I traveled with two of my brothers and their families. One brother and his GF had free dining as did I, the other brother and his 3 kids had a "Kids stay, play, and eat free" promo.

If you go to dinner as a group, just let your server know when you order that you have free dining while the rest of your party will be paying cash. He/she will separate the bill and you'll only have to kick in some cash for your share of the tip along with any extras that you may have ordered. :thumbsup2

make sure you "do the math" both ways...because depending on which resort you stay at, how many people involved, who needs tickets, etc. sometimes a room discount & paying for your food comes out to being a cheaper vacation by far. Sometimes the free dining is a huge discount advantage, but usually that's for families with at least a couple of kids, staying in one room at a value resort (room discounts at values usually don't amount to much...but free dining for a family of 4, can be a huge savings, especially if 2 kids are "Disney adults")

When we treat our adult kids to vacations with us, we book them into moderate room (2 adults) and have found that the room discount+pay cash for their food comes out to about the same cost as full room price + free dining. So we'll book which ever might save a couple of bucks, but that's all it ever comes out to. We like them having the dining plan already paid for so they don't feel they have to order the cheap stuff on the menu.

Now, hubby & I have annual passes, and so we usually book our room with passholders discount...and just pay cash for food.

That is good to know, but I am not the one making the reservation or paying for the room.
No one in my party wants to do the dining plan because *in a whiny voice* "you have to make ADRs, we can't make plans, we dont know where we are going to be, what if we dont want to eat there, its to hard........"

I think the dining plan would make sense for my part of the family (we are the only ones with little kids) because we want to do character meals, but can't afford them. But I am sort of stuck with what everyone else wants to do.

You don't have to tell the server that you have free dining. Just tell the server which people will be using a dining plan. It doesn't matter which promotion you used to book your room; the dining plan is the same whether you got the free dining promotion or you paid full price for every component of your package or you got a room discount that you turned into a package to which you added a dining plan.

If you do choose to go for the free dining plan promotion while nobody else does, be prepared to hear that the rest of your group doesn't want to follow the same kind of plans as you since they'll be paying as they go for their dining and may balk at TS prices while you'll be wanting to be sure to use all of your dining credits. If you're ok with splitting up and you're ok with booking ADRs for yourself separately from the rest of the group this is a great option for you.

Of course this is only true if you're paying your own way. If this trip is being gifted to you then you go with the style of vacation that the person paying wants to gift to you.
