Disneyworld with a Urostomy

Dear Dis-ers-
My DDad is facing bladder cancer and will have his bladder removed soon. Anyone with experience with this surgery and a urostomy (and the subsequent travel experiences) who can share... we'd greatly appreciate it. We love to travel together and plan to do so again (Disney crusing/DisneyWorld)Thanks-

Sorry to hear about your dad. Hope his surgery goes well.

The companion restrooms will be good for him (there is another current thread called "Family Restrooms" on this board).
They have a toilet and sink in one room with a door. (Like a private bathroom). First Aid would also be a good place, especially if he needs to store any supplies. There is a First Aid in every park and they have a bathroom and private rooms for treatments, etc.

I have not been in any of the men's rooms (obviously, since I'm not a boy named Sue ) , but the handicapped stalls in the Ladies Rooms at AK and the Studio have a toilet and a sink. There are also usually some smaller handicapped stalls also, but the larger ones have sinks. Hopefully some men can confirm what the men's rooms are like.

My DD9 has a stoma (created from her bladder to her belly button), due to her having spina bifida. She is cathered going into her bladder through her belly button. I am not sure if this is the same thing as your DDad. But, if it is or if it is close, we had no problems with her. I would use the companion restrooms (if availible) and cather her (complete cather kits with collection bags-a true life saver), while DD7 and I also used the restroom. It did not take any extra amount of time. Cathering her in this way is very convienent and also hygenic (spelling?).

My mother-in-law had bladder cancer and had her bladder removed 6 years ago. She is cancer free. She has an ostomy bag. We have been to WDW twice with no problems. She usually changes her bag once a week. My suggestion is to always bring extra supplies with you in case the bag breaks or leaks. Sometimes this happens because it wasn't attached correctly or if she bends over it compromises the seal. It really hasn't ever been an issue.
