disneyworld vet/ disneyland newbie...HELP!

Help help help...

I am looking at visiting DL on March 8. 9 10 ( 2012)

1. how are the crowds going to be?
2. are offsite hotels close/cheaper?

did a search on DIZ site...package deal...with tickets it was $2400 ( grand californiain, alll that was avail.)

room only was $1350


I saw I could by 3 day hopper tickets alone...for http://disneyland.disney.go.com/special-offers/2012-spring-3-day-park-hopper-ticket/"]$199 each[/URL]


thinking going with a good hotel for about $200 /night ( can I find one at that price?)

and save about $1000 dollars....

I imagine it is not like disneyworld ( ALL SPREAD OUT ) and can probably get a quick shuttle from my hotel ???

I just ran your dates on www.getawaytoday.com and checking in on March 8 for 3 nights it was $1337 at Paradise Pier 1635 at Disneyland Hotel and $1937 at Grand Californian. These prices include 2 Adult 3 day park hopper tickets.

I was not sure how many were in your party. We will be there a couple of days before you. Technically all of March and April are considered Spring Break but we have gone before at the beginning of March and found the crowds very manageable.

Yes, most hotels there are a quick shuttle ride or walking distance.

As far as the crowds go, you should be ok for the most part. Spring break for So Cal schools usually fall the week before or the week after Easter. However, Spring break for some of AZ and UT is the week of the 12th, so you might see a rise in crowd level Sat. the 10th, maybe even Fri, if parents take their kids out of school that Fri.

opps forgot to add I have 2 kids...so add about $400...
I am not sure I can see spending $500 /night when I can get the hilton across the street for under $200....

As far as crowds go, I think it will be a little on the higher end. We are going at the end of March, when crowd levels should be at their peak. Hotels nearby are definitely within walking distance (some).

The only off-campus hotel I'm familiar with, the Candy Cane Inn, is close, but not walking distance. However, they do offer a dedicated shuttle, which worked great for us. The rooms were fine back when I stayed there in 1999.

I've always heard good things about the nearby hotels. In fact, I have friends who solely stay at those properties, and they love them. They're clean, which is all I really care about.

Don't get me wrong, the on-property hotels are beautiful, but just not worth the extra money. You basically want a clean, safe place to take a shower and have a good nights sleep. You are really in the park all day. The only time we stay on-property is when we have DVC points to use or there is some huge deal through Expedia. Otherwise, we have stayed at the Anaheim Desert Inn and Suites for the last 18 years (almost every year too!). It is right across the street from old Maingate inbetween an IHOP and Denny's. The offer free continental breakfast (which is really just toast, sweet rolls, apples or oranges, coffee, milk, orange juice and cereal - but it fills the tummy). The rooms have microwaves and refrigerators, so we usually bring breakfast food anyway. I've gone with my family and with friends and we always feel safe and find the staff friendly and the rooms clean...

Save your money on hotel to put towards food and souveniers

I didnt realize the cost...I think I can get a better deal $$ going to the WORLD...

I couldn;t find a nice hotel ( hilton) all booked...and I would have been flying from san fran...to much hassle..

but who knows if I ever get out that way some other time I might swing by...
