Very true... The decline in sales of postcards a the Disney parks began mid- eighties, and merchandisers at
Disneyland asked "experts" (collectors) to come up with some ideas that could breathe new life (and sales) into the dwindling profits. Some of the ideas were 3-D cards, die-cut cards, and a "then & now" series from DL and pre-postaged cards with Disney art in the stamp blocks.
Disneyland had a long history of offering an extensive selection of park views and they were reluctant to give up those profits. As far as I know, the suggestions to revitalize the DL card racks died without a last gasp. WDW never had the range of views, or the sales, anywhere near that of Disneyland and apparently, little interest to to sell more cards even when they were in demand.
By the early 90's, both parks began cutting back on the rack views being offered. People no longer took the time to write to the folks back home when it was easier and faster to send an email with pics.
In December, I noticed a few new cards with a dull, unattractive finish. Nothing like the glossy, attractive chromes from the past. Although you can still find more cards at DL than at WDW, they are becoming extinct, and will soon go the way of "the Skyway'.
