Disneyworld bus system and hotel

Im looking to stay at a hotel where I can use the city bus system. Anyone know of a hotel that has convienent bus stops. I'm planning on visiting all parks including universal studios. I am also looking to stay at a hotel for under $30 a night. I found one but was wondering if anyone knew of other low value hotels. It needs to be in a safe neighborhood as I am taking a child with me. Thank

Many hotels offer shuttle services to and from the parks; however, it is on a limited service and usually does not go before park opening or after park closing.

Universal Studios is not on Lynx route, not the way Sea World and Disney are tied together. Lynx 111 bus route goes between the TTC at Disney World and the road just beyond Sea World's parking lot. It would probably be cheaper to stay just outside of Sea World.

If you're only wanting to go to Disney and Universal, then I would look at staying closer to Disney and renting a car to get to Universal for a couple of days. It really does not take that much time to get through those parks.

I don't think you'll be able to find a safe hotel for under $50 a night. Although some deals can be made through "name your price" online sites and the little red discounts books that they have at McD's. I would not use these options without having my own vehicle, as you could end up farther from the bus stop than you think.

Disagree!!!! I stayed in Kissimmee with my family and was completely safe for under 30 numerous times. Once we did name on our price and stayed for 12 bucks a night!!!! For years we stayed off site and used the lynx system. Buses are clean and well run. We live outside of Boston and compared to our T bus system lynx is great.

Just do your research and you'll be fine. Good luck

For years we stayed off site and used the lynx system. Buses are clean and well run. We live outside of Boston and compared to our T bus system lynx is great.

But have you done this recently? You signature says that your last off-property stay was in 2009. Like everything else, hotel prices have gone up. I'm not saying it will be impossible. But it will be harder than it was 3-6 years ago. And since the OP wants to be on the bus line, doing hotwire or priceline might not be a good idea.

The Motel 6 behind McD's across from Old Town isn't half bad. It's one of the few pet friendly hotels, and it was cheap 2 years ago. The Lynx bus is right outside to Disney's TTC. It's one of the first hotels along 192, so it's REALLY small compared to a standard room at a newer hotel.

I want to say they were putting in a new Lynx route along Palm Parkway, right outside DTD, and there's some decent hotels along there. But probably not under $45 a night in low season.

A couple years back, got a room at the Holiday Inn Express by I-drive for $40ish a night. It was through a name your price site, but it was also totally random which hotel I got. Although they were really nice and upgraded my aunt to a one bedroom suite with a kitchenette for free.

I just could not imagine staying offsite without a vehicle. How is the OP supposed to get into town? If she's flying, she'll have to get from the airport (although there is a Lynx bus between Disney and OIA).

The cheapest Disney option, which is the safest option, would be to pitch a tent at Ft Wilderness. It's cheap enough to get a partial hook up site, the free Magical Express, the free transportation onsite. It's easy enough to get to Sea World, but Universal is another story.

I read not too long ago that the lynx bus system might stop running in the Disney area because Disney decided to cut funding for it. They found that not enough people were using it to make it worth it to them. And they want more people to stay on site of course. You might want to check into that before booking anything. I don't know what the final decision was but I know it was on the table to be cut.

Other than a name-your-price site I cannot imagine finding much for $30, especially in a 'safe' neighborhood. Even a 3 block walk, especially in the dark, can be dangerous if not in the right area.

Be sure to read reviews on Trip Advisor (and google the hotel!!!) before booking anything.

I just could not imagine staying offsite without a vehicle. How is the OP supposed to get into town? If she's flying, she'll have to get from the airport (although there is a Lynx bus between Disney and OIA).

Well, I stayed offsite with my mom and sister in 2007 and we didn't have a car. We got the RT limo service for our transportation to & from the airport (for around $90 or so back then) and stayed in the Comfort Suites (I think - the ones with the Mardi Gras theme) near Old Town and used the hotel shuttle to get to Universal and to Disney's TTC. May not have been the most convenient, but it wasn't like a death sentence or anything.

I think you can find hotels in safe areas for under $30 at certain times of the year,using Hotwire and other similar sites you can get some decent hotels.However during busier times all hotel rates will rise so it'll be unlikely.I've stayed in very safe hotels in areas like Palm Pkwy,Turkey Lake rd,I-Drive countless times between $27-$35,just recently I got the Maingate Lakeside resort in Kissimmee for $21,I was worried as it's the cheapest hotel I've ever booked but it turned out to be pretty good.But like I said there are times in the year the cheapest you might get these hotels for is $45-$55.

As far as getting to the parks,I would look into renting a car,I can't imagine worrying about bus schedules,if the buses even
go to the parks,how late they run,etc...Even shuttles from the offsite hotels would have me stressed out,I've heard they may only run so late causing you to leave the parks early missing firework shows and totally changing your plans.If you don't want to rent a car book a room at one of Disney's value resorts so you have transportation to the Disney parks and then you can book the Mears shuttle to take you to Universal.It's one or the other if you're going to go for the offsite cheap hotels rent a car otherwise stay onsite at Disney.

With the OP not wanting to spend more than $30 a night, I would find it hard to believe she'd plop $90 down for a shuttle service. It's not impossible to stay offsite without a car, but there's bound to other expenses.

I do stay on property now but I have paid for my 20 something daughter to stay in the old town area just this year. I think with a lot of forethought you can get a great deal and in a safe place. And the lynx system I still use even when staying on property.

Sometimes I feel like I have been called to the principles office on this board....lol!
