Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Now that we are staying at BC, I do have one question, and it's about the air-conditioning. This was the only problem I had with the otherwise *stunning* refurb at the resort. Last year, we had come from the CR, where the AC was practically arctic (the way I like it!), and the room at BC was uncomfortably warm. There were very new-looking thermostats, which we seemed unable to set below 72 degrees. In fact, we were told they were motion sensitive and despite my doing ridiculous dances in the middle of the night, I couldnt get it to flip on....and in fact the temp climbed steadily throughout the night. On night #1, I went to the front desk and asked what could be done....nothing, other than I was told to buy a balloon (at midnight) and that would hopefully trip the sensor. So, we sweated through night 1. On night 2, I went back to the desk, and politely, but firmly explained the situation again and within 10 min, there was a maintenance man in our room who fixed it, telling us that he'd pushed the temperature lower than he should have, (a whopping 68) and that it would stay that way for 72 hrs.
For me, this isn't ok as it's very hot in FL in August, and I expect my room to be frosty cold if I want it to be. Does anyone have any ideas of how to do something about the AC without having to make a pest of oneself at the front desk?

BTW...I'm really very VERY excited to have made the move to BC, but this was a big concern of mine last year, that I'd forgotten about!

Thanks for the heads up....I've been packing warm pjs for the kids in anticipation of those frosty hotel rooms we had at WL when we went in the summer over five years ago. Last few trips to YC and Boardwalk were in Nov so the AC wasn't an issue. Looks like we will be at the BC the same time as you now and I didn't even know the AC could be a problem. I'll pack the summer pjs now!!

Search this thread or the previous one

Search this thread (or maybe the previous one) for "thermostat". Someone connected to the manufacturer had some helpful comments.

Here we go- this was posted by the mom of someone who works for Honeywell, the manufacturer of the thermostat in the new rooms, I believe. This is from the previous, closed FAQ thread. Read a page or so before and after this post.

It sounds like a great room. We booked a magical standard view and I'm hoping it turns out to be a decent location.

But I don't think that the Beach Club has any dumpster views. The huge flat roof gets in the way ;)

We have a magical vacation booked as well, arriving on Wednesday 8/24 for 10 nights. Hope we have a nice view as well. Either way, we will be in Disney at one of the most beautiful resorts at a fantastic location, so I will be so focused on that. Can't wait!!!!!!!!

Soooooo......:rolleyes1

Call me the king of changing things at the last minute after thinking and rethinking......(That's what I get for having the summer off!)

Dee?

Would you switch our dates from Aug 17-22 at YC to Aug 17-22 at BC? :beach:

I really do think my favorite resort for a million different reasons is YC, but we can't ignore those absolutely gorgeous renovations that BC did last year, and since YC is about to get a facelift, and we're probably going to just stay there forever at that point, we thought, "Let's do BC while those rooms are still fresh and new!" I'm a little bit nervous about stepping out of my comfort zone, meaning everything was all planned, we were expecting YC, etc...but I'm very excited!

Now to go make a new ticker that will be the fastest moving ticker ever!

Personally, I like renovated rooms

Oh no, that's the last think our family wants to hear. We like it cold. Even in the winter (Northern NJ), I keep the thermostat at 63 degrees at night (used to keep it at 60). We like it cold and like having blankets. If the BC get enough complaints, they will do something about it. Don't plan on buying a balloon to solve the problem either. When we stay in Marriott's the maintenance guy always comes to our room to do some adjustments and then it's cold. Plan on doing it at the BC.

My wife was at the front desk today sorting out a problem and heard the manager say to get ready as the VIP was due in the hotel very soon.

Anyone know who it was?

Just read yesterday that the ABC series Black-ish is filming their season opener at WDW. Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis-Ross, Laurence Fishburne & the rest of the cast are possibly the VIPs - the timing seems right. They will be shooting at all 4 parks (as per The Orlando Sentinel)

Thanks for all the replies! I'll try the hack when we get there, and if not, it'll have to be a trip to the front desk. Interestingly, I read a review on Trip Advisor from about 3 weeks ago, where the gentleman noted how delightfully cool his room at BC was....maybe they've unblocked the thermostats for the summer!

*Wishful thinking!*

I hope so but if he was elderly, he might think that 78 degrees is cool. Not knocking older people but they always like it warm and think it's always "cold".

Hey Scott...just wanted to let you know that my girls are literally wrapped in blankets as I type this because DH has decided to he likes the room to feel like we are in an igloo. Definitely nothing wrong with our thermostat :).

Thank you!!! Does this apply to only BCV or is this referring to all DVC properties?

:goodvibes

I think it was only BCV that distinguished between the dedicated 2-bedrooms with 2 queens and without. As far as I know, all other DVC dedicated 2-bedrooms already have 2 queens in the second bedroom. And now with the renos, BCV does as well.

Hey all, does the BC or YC do anything special on Halloween? We won't be attending MNSSHP but still want the niece to have a 'trick or treat' of sorts.

Hi Folks, booked the Beach Club again for 2017. Been twice before, once at Club Level but we have never actually booked anything other than a standard room. On both occasions we have been very lucky and had a room with a view over looking the lake toward the boardwalk and the second just above the main entrance again facing the boardwalk. This time, we have booked a Garden View and wonder if anyone has any tips on where the good or not so good rooms are. I'm not even sure what part of the building the Garden View Rooms are situated. Only 'vital' request would be a full balcony as we are staying for 14 nights.

Thanks in advance.

Excellent! Good to know!
Maybe last year, our room was a fluke....or maybe enough guests complained. 72-75 is really unacceptable in/after the Florida heat in August!

We usually book garden view and the nicest view would come from rooms near the volleyball court. Those would have a sideways view of the lagoon. But most of the garden view rooms face Epcot and have a lovely view of trees. ;) You can get a partial view of the high fireworks, though, and those rooms are closest to the International Gateway. The garden view rooms tend to have the most full balconies, although all room types have both standing and full balconies. We usually request full balcony and leave the rest to chance.
