Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

As I sit at home surrounded by the noise and mess of having a new flat roof fitted to our home I'm staying positive by thinking about Crews Cup Lounge as an option for "date night" when we visit. Thinking happy thoughts on WDW and especially Y&BC are keeping me upbeat and productive. It's sure been a stressful year so far and I hope things start changing for the better now.

Anyone else have some great locations in mind for a couple celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary this year?

I'm still behind, but thanks to everyone for answering questions and providing feedback about everything, including the Secret entrances/exits at BC and YC, pool chair availability, dining reservations and skyways!

:thanks:

Hi everyone!!

I had a question about SAB that I really haven't found a good answer for despite all my readings. Are pool chairs difficult to come by, in the sense we'd have to be there almost at pool open? We (2 people) love to swim but have never spent much time at the pool. We usually stay at values and I find the atmosphere a lot less relaxing, and I hate the fact that I feel like I'm on top of 10 other people while sitting down. I know it will definitely be crowded, but if we come back for an afternoon swim, is it going to be a giant headache to find somewhere to sit? We have no children so no need to be directly AT/in the direct view of the water, and I don't really care what area I plop down but I just want to brace myself for a long search if that's the usual case. We will be there 5/30-6/4, so during warmer weather. I'm sure seating is generally easier to find at the quiet pools but with such a legendary pool as SAB I am sure we will spend most of our time there.

ETA: I feel like this came off snobby and I really apologize, it was never meant that way. I love the values and often stay at them! I find their pools very fun and themed very cute but the pool-chair-shimmy is one that isn't my favorite. I am sure no one wants me so close to them as I try to maneuver my chair hahaha

My two cents- My trips to the Beach and Yacht Club have been in July (2), August (2) and October. I have used Stormalong Bay in both the morning and afternoons on the trips. I have always been able to find one or two seats, but sometimes they are not in the most convenient place. If you cross over the bridges, you get to areas that are not directly connected to the other walkways, but I have always been able to find seats there. They are chairs, though, not loungers.

I believe there is some info/reviews about availability of seating on Page 1. Try Post 2 or 3, the Pool Posts and also check out ~Ninjamom's hilarious comments about Chair Piggies (search that term and you will find it- post linked in either Post 13 or 14)

I was going to post this here as well. I haven't visited this thread in a while :duck:(Hi everyone!). It seems like this might actually happen. I'm not too concerned about the aesthetics as it appears to be in front of the BW but I am concerned about the IG being the point of drop off. One of the best things about staying at any Epcot resort is that the IG is so convenient and you can RD Epcot without much of a crowd. Will this be the end of that luxury?

Good to see you again!

:goodvibes

Hi. I have a naive question - re the "BC secret entrance" - do the BCV folks have access to it? (Just curious.) And I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere! Thank u!

:welcome:

Do you have an upcoming trip?

:cool2:

we had dinner at Yachtsman Steakhouse on Monday. After the delicious appetizers we shared the Porterhouse for two. We ordered medium rare, but it seems that in Europe we have a different understanding of that. Our server handled it very well.

They put it on the grill again for a few moments and then it was PERFECT. I mean, it was excellent! The whole dinner was just fabulous.

Our server, I forgot his name but I remember that he was of Columbian origin, was very fast, friendly and helpful.

The dessert was also just perfect. From the 4 signature restaurants we dined at this trip the Yachtsman was the best.

Thanks for your review of the Yachtsman. Glad you had a spectacular meal!

::yes::

I'm so excited for our upcoming (and first) stay at the YC! We've been to Disney a lot since our first family trip in 2012, where we fell in love with the BC/YC after a visit to Cape May Cafe. We could never make it work financially until now, and I really can't wait!

I know my girls are going to be SO EXCITED to finally get to play at SAB. We walk past it at least once every time we go down to WDW. We'll be at the YC from 8/27-9/1 --- SO PUMPED to be catching the first night of Food & Wine!!!

We will be there 8/22-31 with three 12 year old girls - we'll probably see you at the pool!! And at Food & Wine if you go on the 31st... This is a huge splurge for us as well and I'm over the moon excited to finally stay there. I've been 12 times and we never did Deluxe until this past September. Of course I'm hooked! :teeth:

I disagree on the potential impact (of course my speculation). There could be/will be many guests from CBR or beyond now trying it enter at the IG.

:thumbsup2

Okay, to be realistic about this though, think of a gondola and how many people it will hold at any one time. Also, I believe you will only have two gondolas, one coming, one going, at any one time. Of course my experience with this is very limited as I have not visited any of the International resorts where this type of transportation is popular. I would agree though with Scott MC that the affect should be minimal, with no more than a Friendship boat off-loading. Nothing to get worked up about just yet. Sounds like an E-ticket ride to me. Now if you put a monorail station unloading at the IG, that would be a different story and one to get a little excited about.

I have been reading the thread on the rumors & news board. Several folks there seem to have quite a bit of experience with these types of gondolas & info as it pertains to Disney. They are talking about possibility 1200 people an hour being moved with this type of transportation. Seems guests from POP & AoA will also have direct access to this. Also definitely several gondolas moving all the time. Less than 4 minutes from DS to CBR, another 4 minutes from CBR to Epcot. I can see most people picking this over the boat or bus.

Sounds like quite an impact to the IG if that's all true. Interesting reading over there! Maybe I should take more of a wait & see attitude. But the more I read about this, the sadder I get. I just don't want to lose that quiet relaxing atmosphere around the Y&B.

The YC & BC online check-in room request options have been changed again. They are now listed as:

Near transportation, ground floor, lower floor, large balcony (BC), near lobby, near elevator, upper floor

You may select up to two options, per room.

At BC, wouldn't "near transportation" and "near lobby" be one and the same? So you can't request a daybed or full balcony?

Those are the online check-in selections. If you call in, you can request whatever you like.

Yes...you are right. They did ad back in large balcony, as well. I will edit.

Ground floor is pretty self explanatory, but what do "upper" and "lower" get you? 5 is all CL at Yacht, so that's off the table. Is upper floor 3/4 or just 4? Is lower 2/3 or just 2??

Also the near transportation is equally vague, as there is boat or bus. I suppose that could put you by either one...

This is the main reason I have never used the options available during Online Check In. They have never really made much sense to me.

When I requested "lower floor," thinking that would place my room on the 2nd or 3rd floor, the room assigned was on the ground floor. The CM told me that they complied with my request for "lower floor." :rolleyes1

Siting on the park bench at end of YC walk-way to boat doc starting at 8:30pm watching people and boats together and then the fireworks at 9:00pm before heading back in to the Crews Cup for a night cap.

Hope you have a great trip
