Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

Any recent word on how close they are to finishing the BCV refurb? I remember reading a few weeks ago that they were starting the last area.

Curious about this too but didn't know if there was any new information on it. Hoping for the occupancy on the studios to change with the completion.

Well, we are home. We spent five glorious nights at the Yacht Club and then three at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Never again! Yacht Club all the way from now on. I actually felt homesick for the Yacht Club while we were at AKL. It is beautiful, but nothing comes close to Yacht Club for me.

How many months does it usually take for rehab? Just wondering not that it will interfere with our trip 8-) just was curious.

You can see a listing of the dates of the latest beach club renovation in the first post on page 1. I think it was mid Oct to end of August for the rooms. Yc has fewer rooms

:goodvibes

I have a parking and pool question. I know the monorail resorts have really cracked down to keep people from taking advantage of free parking and then going to a park. My dad and his girlfriend will be staying at POFQ while we are at Beach Club, and they've offered to come watch our little one for an afternoon/evening while we go to Epcot and have a date night. Will they be allowed to park at Beach Club? If not we will pay for them to take an Uber both ways. Similarly, will they be allowed to take our daughter (she's 2) to the pool? I know they are really strict about that too, so I don't want to set them up for failure if there's no way that would be allowed. If not, does anyone have any other suggestions of what they could do? Does Beach Club have a playground?

Not sure on parking, but I would guess no at the pool. Only guests staying at BC or YC are allowed.

They could try the quiet pool. Not sure they check there. Of course that goes against rules so I would never ever recommend that. Lol

Haha, I'm a rule follower -- it makes my stomach twist to think about trying to get around rules. I know they are in place so people don't take advantage and make the pool more crowded than it should be. I guess I just don't see the harm, since it would still be two adults and one child, just different adults. But if it's just not allowed, then I will give my dad some other suggestions. Maybe they could take her over to the Boardwalk for some ice cream, I know she would like that! How do they check? Scanning magic bands? Any idea about the parking?

At Stormalong Bay they scan Magic Bands. For parking, they scan Magic Bands or key cards, unless you have a reservation at one of the restaurants, then they check. If you have none of these I'm not sure if they would allow you to park. During bust times at Epcot, like Food & Wine, they probably wouldn't let you park

A walk over to Boardwalk could be fu, or ride Friendship boats

Thanks for the info! I'm glad I thought to ask so we can avoid the hassle of them being turned away at the gate. Looks like Uber and the Boardwalk it is! Or maybe they can watch the Movie Under the Stars -- do they check magic bands for that?

Nope. They could watch that

They can always valet park if needed although I think they will be allowed to park and visit. I also think they will be fine at the quiet pool. I'd get ice cream at the Beaches and Cream to go window.

Valet is $25 + tip, right? I think Uber one-way will be cheaper. They will be with us for the first part of the day at Magic Kingdom, so if they won't be allowed to park, we will all take the bus back to Beach Club together and then I will get them an Uber to get back to POFQ at the end of the night. That might just be easier to do anyway rather than parting ways for them to drive over to BC.

For anyone who has been the week BEFORE Thanksgiving- is the resort decorated for Christmas and are there PhotoPass photographers in the lobby? (Someone asked on the TPAS board about resort photographers in general, so it got me thinking...) Also, a little OT, but related question: has anyone done photos with Santa at Disney Springs and what was your experience?
We were at YC 4 years ago for the week of Thanksgiving (we left the day after). The resort was completely decorated, the tree was lovely. There were no Photopass photographers there but a cast member quiet willingly took out picture in front of the tree.

I have never parked at the resort and I'm not sure what they are doing now, but I think they will scan magic bands or ask for name/reservation number to check it you are staying there or have a dinner reservation. I don't know if they restrict access or if they would let your parents in if they gave your name/reservation number and said they were visiting. Valet parking is also an option at the resort, for a fee. So, my answer to your question is that I think they should be able to park at the resort.

Magic bands are scanned for everyone trying to access Stormalong Bay. They shouldn't have a problem if they go to one of the 3 quiet pools at the resort. Also, there is a very cute kiddie pool and slide behind the stairs that lead up to the Jib Slide- check out Post 3 for pictures. Does anyone know if anyone checks Magic Band access here?

No playground at the resort. I think the closest one is at either the Swan or Dolphin.

::yes::

Thank you! Good to know that there is no playground. Luckily there seems to be a lot of options even without the pool and a playground. I'm loving Beach Club already and we haven't even stayed there yet!

We stayed at YC this past May. My oldest daughter lives in Orlando and came to visit us at the resort the day we checked in. She had no problem parking in the YC lot. I believe all she had to do was give our name and show her license and they let her right in, she was even able to park right next to us.

Parking can be an issue, particularly at busy times (festivals at Epcot, holidays). But they could ask, and if no go, they can just ask to valet park -- which might be better than and probably is the same overall cost as Uber.

They could use the quiet pool. Unlike Storm Along Bay, where they check magic bands with no exceptions, it would be exceedingly rare for them to check MBs at the quiet pools. I'm a rule follower too. I would not be nervous about them using the quiet pool. But, she's little to enjoy a pool with no real kiddie portion. A walk over to ice cream on the Boardwalk would be a great idea. (or ice cream form Beaches and Cream window). She might be too young (i.e., after her bedtime) for the movie on the lawn -- but that's fun, even if only for a few minutes.
