Resort Thread Disney's YACHT & BEACH CLUB Resorts

I had a reservation for next August to stay at the Poly, because I was hoping the vast majority of construction would be complete. I just switched to the BC. From what I'm seeing, most people who have had less-than-great stays at the Poly are reporting similar things to what you posted. Having stayed at AKL, POR, YC, BC, the Poly, and the WL, I've come to realize my favorite resorts are AKL and the BC. If I go to the Poly and it's not great, I'll be thinking the whole time how much better it would have been at BC.

After just having stayed at the Poly at the beginning of September I can be the voice of experience for you. It was ok walking around the Poly trying to get from here to there but I definitely would trade the the external walkways of the Poly for the air conditioned, indoor "ambiance" of the BC/YC. That however is subjective as is this entire post. Having a permanent Dole Whip station at the Poly was a plus as opposed to the "Now you see it, oops we decided not to staff it" Dole whip station at the BC. :sad2:

Interestingly enough I found Captain Cooks to be just as limited as the BC marketplace. I suppose one could chalk that up to a menu preference though.

Menu for Capt. Cooks: BREAKFAST: http://allears.net/dining/menu/capt-cooks/breakfast
Lunch/din, din: http://allears.net/dining/menu/capt-cooks/lunch-dinner
Kona Island Sushi fiesta: Lunch, dinner: http://allears.net/dining/menu/kona-island/dinner

Beach Club Marketplace: Breakfast: http://allears.net/dining/menu/beach-club-marketplace/breakfast
Dinner: http://allears.net/dining/menu/beach-club-marketplace/lunch-dinner
Hurricane Hannah's: Lunch http://allears.net/dining/menu/hurricane-hannas/all-day

As far as transportation is concerned we used the boats and the Monorail at the Poly but there is something to be said for having two theme parks within walking distance out your backdoor like at the Beach Club.

Now we get to the thing about the Poly that really bummed me out. It was the pool. It was so small and so crowded. There was no space in the pool where you couldn't reach out and miss whacking someone with your pool noodle. People were on top of you, kids were on top of you. Entire families would charge past in in a panic trying to avoid small children in swim diapers. There was simply no place to go. The hot tub had one of those ticket machines that you see in the cold cuts line at your local supermarket. Well maybe I'm kidding about that but it was really crowded.

I know we like to bust on the lack of availability of chairs at Stormalong Bay but there were definitely not a lot of chairs available on the way smaller pool deck of the Poly. I really enjoyed going from chair to chair begging the beached resort guests for an open one. After 100 tries I was almost out of chairs before I finally snagged one from a sympathetic table dweller.

I didn't dare go down the slide at the Poly because there were no lockers to stash my phone in. The Beach Club has lockers located in the pool area. There was a shower in the ladies room of the Poly pool but it was in disrepair and it lacked a private changing area unless you were in the shower stall. This was an upgrade over the completely outdoor shower stations at the Beach Club, but then again Ninja Mom has no shame and she would not be adverse to showering "Au Natural" to teach BC/YC management a lesson about proper locker room facilities at a deluxe resort.

So there you have my two cents on one person's comparison of the Poly versus the Beach Club. If the pool is a part of your vacation experience then stay clear of the Poly pool, even if your child is still rocking the swim diapers, because they have plenty of them over at the Poly Pool :rolleyes1 ;)

What a fantastic upgrade!

Is there any chance you have some pictures of the room you can post here or email to me to post on this thread and the YC Deluxe/Suite room thread?

Or the Presidential Suite as CL lounge?

Thanks!

:cool2:

I only have a few of the room. I didn't have my phone on the morning of breakfast in the Presidential Suite. If these appear blurry, I may or may not have had a cocktail or 2 in the lounge prior :confused3

:goodvibes:

We made it!!! Check in was a little long as there were having trouble with our magic bands but they squared it away and it was off to Magic Kingdom. When we arrived there we ended up having to go to guest services as my parents magic bands would not work for park entry. About 1pm we received a text saying we had to go guest services about our room. My husband went back to the resort and Lena helped him figure everything out. Per the Hubby she went above and beyond helping us, she gave us a couple of fast passes to make up for lost time . Our requests for the room were: full balcony, king bed & connecting rooms with my parents. We pretty much were granted all our requests but the bed is queen instead of King which is no biggie at all. We are 1st floor garden view and we are right on the bath were the secret exit comes out. We had lunch at Columbia Harbor House and as I type this we are waiting to be seated at Yachtsman, yummmm. So far we are having a wonderful time!!!

Not like the Stormalong Bay hot tub where there is room to float around in a tube (and then some). But that is a couple of updates away...

;)

You know.... there IS something to be said when you can float around in the hot tub on a pool tube and be beaten about the head and neck with pool noodles by your "friends"... not that I would have personal knowledge of this...

PS. Get cracking on those trip reports woman! I ain't getting any younger ya know!

Thanks for posting you room pictures. It looks like a nice room. And the birthday cake is gorgeous. :)

Following the rules, that was us.

We shall call those love taps....

I'm hoping that the 2016 room only bounce back has been released by the time we are there next week. Do you have a bounce back offer in the Be Our Guest booklet in your room?
I looked and I didn't see anything about a Bounce Back in the guest booklet I was given.

At this time tomorrow morning we will be sitting at the gate waiting to board our flight. I can't wait to arrive at the BCV tomorrow!!! Off to pack.

Let us know what the bounce back offer is, should be RO discounts. I'm wondering what % and exclusions there may be.

Hi. I don't post much but wanted to give my review of BC CL. We just returned last night after 7 nights. This was our first trip to the Beach Club. We usually stay at the Wilderness Lodge, but with the construction starting at the WL soon, we decided to change. It was my DH and two girls ages 11 and 12.

ME: we arrived wed oct 7 around 1145. We waited briefly for the bus but we were on the ME fairly quickly. This was the most uneventful ME trip we have ever taken. TV's weren't working, everyone was silent. Very strange on arrival day. We stopped at the YC first. It was kind of crazy with a big convention going on. We were stuck waiting on the bus for awhile before the bus could move. BC was next. Boardwalk and CB were also on the bus.

Check in: we were greeted off the bus by a cast member with an Ipad. Once she realized we were CL she escorted us right up to the 5th floor. We were offered a welcome drink right away and shown to the lounge until they were ready for us. I love the welcome drink and I think that's a really nice touch for check in. I had done online check in so once I was at the desk it didn't take long. He checked all of our magic bands to make sure they worked and escorted us to our room. Our room was ready but we didn't receive a text . They asked us if we had and said they were having issues with the system.

Room: we had requested a full balcony and day bed and got both. I loved the room. The room was in great shape and was so soothing. Our view looked down on a roof but to the left was a great view of storm along bay and the lake. I was so pleased. We had booked standard CL. I was so happy with our room. I like them so much better than the ones at WL.

Lounge: breakfast was good. I loved the meat platters. We always go to the parks early so usually were in the lounge at 7. We always could find tables . We did notice however on the weekends, they seemed to be low in staff. During peak times, it was hard to find clean tables. One thing my husband wanted was scallops and bacon on Saturday night. We got to the lounge at 545 and there were 2 left. We waited for 25 mins and no one ever replenished. Lots of people asked for them . I found that strange. Overall we weren't fans of the evening appetizers. We never liked any of the fried appetizers. It seemed like it was always some fried triangle. I did like some of the cold salads but my family prefers the food at the WL CL. The staff was friendlly. The alcohol car was fine but we like it the other way . At the WL, we kept beers in our refrigerator for when kids went asleep or bring down to the pool. We did notice they would get it any time of the day for you. They just open it first.

Pool: we can't say enough good things about the pool. Our girls loved it. They would take off and play all afternoon. We could always find seats. That was never a problem for us but we did stays in the same spot most days ( in front of the part of the pool which is like a whirlpool). We liked those chairs the best, it was perfect for reading. At the WL, if you don't get to the pool at a decent hour, forget it , no chair. We really enjoyed this part. We liked the bar servers that came around the pool. They were all very nice and helpful.

Overall we loved the Beach Club. Walking into Epcot was great. The bus to MK was quick. We only waited 5 mins each time. We ate at Hurricane Hannah's a bunch and it worked for us. You can't beat the location and the pool. For our girls, it's a much better place. I just think we will save the money and not do CL at the Beach Club again. We didn't hate it, but just didn't love the food so it seems like a waste for us.

Thank you for your informative review. Sounds like you had a lovely room and your girls had a wonderful time. Love your comment about fried triangles. I always think the same whenever I see CL food photos lol.
