Will the North wing still be the only one in use around Labor Day?
Yes. There is still a lot of work to do in the south wing. They told us that they hoped to have the south wing finished by November. But from the pictures I've seen of rooms with the walls removed, I can't believe that it will be finished before 2017.

So seems like this means the WL will not be as crowded. Even close to Labor Day. Do you reckon that they stay at 100% capacity while the south wing is out of commission?

My husband and I are (hopefully!) making a short trip to Wilderness Lodge 11/30-12/3. Nothing like last minute, but we are waiting for the official time off approval from his work. We stayed at Fort Wilderness with our then 2.5 year old son this past Feb. and had an AMAZING time. This is an adults-only, very belated anniversary trip so we wanted something a little fancier and couldn't resist picking this resort after seeing pictures of the Christmas decorations. Thanks for all of the helpful info in this thread!

Don't forget to take the monorail and check out the other resorts decorations, GF is amazing! Oh, you two could have diiner at one resort, dessert at another and later on have drinks at yet another resort while checking out the decorations! Lots of fun!

Fall BB offers 2017 - does anyone have information?

Also we'll be at WL on Oct. 26 - Nov. 1: Me, DH & DS(13), please put us on the Log!

2016 Oct – WDW WL
2015 Apr – TDR MiraCosta
2013 Oct – WDW WL
2012 Oct – WDW WL
2008 June – WDW Contemporary
1987, 1988 – Just for a day or two

Hi everyone. I have POR booked from 7/13-7/19 but thinking about changing to WL. I know there's construction but seems there's minimal impact. Anyone been there recently or have any thoughts. Hate to pass up a deluxe and my kids are older so will be at the parks most of the day. No need for playground or other amenities that are closed. Thanks!

First, I just want to share my excitement - 12 more days til my first stay at WL and my BIRTHDAY!! WooHoo!!

Second, I've been trying to find the perfect room to request - I booked Standard View - I really want a 6th floor room with a view of the castle/fireworks. I've been to touringplans, but I think a lot of their views are outdated from reading comments on here about the trees being gone now . . . Any room suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated! I want this to be the best, most perfect birthday I could ever dream of!!!

You sound a little like me . . . I usually stay at Moderates, and was going to stay at POR this time, but decided to upgrade to a Deluxe - I've always dreamed of staying Deluxe, but it's never been in my budget, but this time it was only $200 more than POR so I went for it - I mean why not? It's my birthday trip!! At first, I was a little put off about the thought of construction, but I don't think it will be a bother, if you are like me and spend most of your time in the parks . . . besides when I'm at Disney - there's nothing that will bring me down!! And I kind of like the idea that the resort is not jammed packed full of people like how the resorts usually are on my trips, I say the less people staying there - the better for me . . . Just my two cents - prolly not helpful to you . . . lol

I'm also in the same boat as you,so to speak, I've took a note of these rooms on the 5th and 6th floors..5000 to 5034 and 6000 to 6034... Seems they have a north facing view and point towards magic kingdom.

The resort is not crowded right now since so many rooms are under construction. We stopped by at lunch time a few weeks ago and Roaring Forks was almost empty. And there weren't very many people waiting for the buses, either. :)

The bounceback offer for 2017 should be available when you are there in October. :) The current BB offer is still for 2016 dates.

Since most of the trees are gone there are some good fireworks views. Just request a high floor. The 6th floor rooms near Otter Pond have dormer balconies and you have to stand to see out of them. Here is a picture:

I don't like the dormer balconies and would request the fourth or fifth floor to avoid having one.

So is the part of the lobby under construction still, how long will that last? Is all of the south wing going to DVC? I just wonder if there be any really deep discounts here next year?

This will be our first time staying at Wilderness Lodge (7/26 - 8/6). I have noted that the Red Flag boat only operates starting about a half hour before Magic Kingdom opening. We like to get to the gates about 45 minutes before park opening and also have a pre-park opening Bibbidi Bobiddi Boutique appointment one day. What is the best way to get to Magic Kingdom this early? We will have a rental car but am assuming that is not the most efficient method based on location of Wilderness Lodge. Would it just be best to bus it?

I had an AMAZING view my last trip in Sept. I was on the top floor overlooking the pool and had views of the lake. I was able to watch fireworks from my room AND the electric water parade. Amazing....

How is the walk from the transportation back to the villas and vise versa. Im worried about wildlife after dark coming back from the parks.

I found a club level at yaht club that would be $20 less per peron than the 2 bedroom at VWL but in order to get that price i have to get rid of the DDP. The others in my group think vwl with dining plan ks better than yaht club with no dining, but the wildlife is making me anxious.

Please let me know how the trail at vwl is. Thanks!

I was eventually going to ask the same. I haven't done much research yet (trip isn't until June 2017) but from what I read, one of the boats starts running earlier than the other but I don't remember which one. I thought maybe it was the one that went to Ft Wilderness but I really am not certain.

What wildlife are you worried about?

There isn't any construction in the lobby. The main elevators are blocked off but the rest of the lobby is normal. :)

I don't think there has been any official word yet as to whether or not all of the south wing will be DVC.

The best way to get to MK for pre-park opening would be to take the bus. You don't want to take your car because then you'll have to park and take the monorail or ferry.

The bus stop is right next to the main entrance to the villas building. You would be walking on sidewalks and it is a very short walk. The walk from the boat dock to the lodge is also on sidewalks or on the dock itself. There won't be any alligators around there. The beach is closed right now but even when it was open it had a seawall which I don't think alligators could have climbed. I would say that your chances of encountering an alligator near the WL or VWL is zero. They don't have a beach like GF has.

Now if you want to see deer you can take the walking trail to FW that begins just behind the bus stop. It is a very nice paved path that always has walkers, runners and bikers on it. We have often seen a deer but no other animals.

I think you can see snakes and spiders at any resort.

We will be in WDW for Columbus weekend - any idea if BB for 2017 will be out?
It might be out by then. I think it was released in the middle of October last year. If you don't see the offer in your resort room then dial extension 8844 from the phone in your room and ask about it. :)

@Wood Nymph what stop is WL as far as buses go? If the first, how long does it take to go to Ft Wilderness then MK? If last, are there seats left?

I thought I read the bus goes to Contemporary, too? Is that correct?

Has anyone used Amazon Prime Pantry to have water and snacks delivered to the resort? I did this last year at POFQ and it worked great.

Is there a fee to do so at WL? And will they just hold it at the front desk or bell services? Or will they deliver it to the room?
