Disney's WILDERNESS LODGE Information & Questions

I have wl booked for our party of 8. I have some hesitations about the construction but this is my mom's dream place to stay. We're booked November 27th through December 4th. I'm hopeful it will minimally impact our stay. The one concern I have is the villas. I see the bulk of the construction is around them. We are staying in one. Anyone recently visited the villas and had a good or bad experience? Thanks!

Are they still doing Flag Family? I think I would like to check into that. The bad thing is it would mess up getting to rope drop, but if it could be on one of our AK days, it would be fine. Really the only day that we HAVE to be early at the park is when we have a pre park opening BOG, but depending on if that turns out to be one of those new pay to get in early days, we may cancel that anyway!

Maybe another advantage of a half full hotel is less people asking to be flag family...

I would ask at check in unless someone reports back sooner. I know that the staircase to the rooftop is in the same area where they are going to do the construction for the new club level lounge. I don't know if they would still do flag family or not, since the staircase is right there.

Are they still doing Flag Family?
Someone posted a while back, I think on the WL DVC Expansion thread, that they had stopped doing flag family during construction. I remember because I took it off my list of things to do while we are at the resort.

Bumping your question about the VWL view. I haven't stayed there during the construction, however, if you are facing toward FW or the bus stop area, you wouldn't see any construction at all.

If you've never stayed at WL/VWL (or your mom hasn't), there are some amenities that are closed that you should be aware of. The complete list is in POST 1 of the WL DVC Expansion thread located HERE. Also, you could get a bad "first impression" with so many closures. The positive of the construction is that the resort has a much lower occupancy which is especially nice transportation and dining-wise.

Booked a 2br villa for first week of October. I have stayed in WL before but not villas.. How far is the walk from villas to main pool/boat area?
will we still be able to see the light parade on the water?
I still remember our first trip to WL. I believe it was the first year it opened and we got a great rate of $109 to stay there. It was so magical. we loved it so much that we asked to stay another night at lodge..no problem there. we changed our flight.. no problem there either. no additional change fee for airlines.
those were the days LOL

Thinking of moving from POR to WL. Really would prefer WL, for the location. How's the construction and is it causing any real issues at the main lodge? We'll be there end of May.

You have to walk from the villas building, into the WL, then through the lobby and exit near Roaring Forks in order to reach the boat dock. It isn't a very long walk, maybe three or four minutes, but it is the only way to get there. Construction has blocked all access to the beach area for both VWL and WL guests.

will we still be able to see the light parade on the water?
If you had a courtyard view room in the WL then it would be easy to see the light parade from your balcony. I don't know whether the higher floors of the villas building would have a view or not. But you might have to go down to the area by the boat dock in order to see the light parade.

We did the same thing back in 1997 - added a day and changed our flight home without a problem. Those were the days. :)

How's the construction and is it causing any real issues at the main lodge?
There haven't been very many recent reports from guests staying at the lodge right now. But those we do get are mostly positive. Restaurants, buses, boats and the main pool are functioning as normal, or better, since they are less crowded. I don't think the heavy construction has started yet though. Once they start to construct the actual buildings it might become a lot noisier during the day.

Going to WL in two weeks and so excited! I'm hoping I get the same positive experience as everyone else. Was wondering if the construction pins are still being given out?

I hope you have a great trip. You'll have to report back and let us know if you received pins. It would be nice to know how the construction is going, too. :)

Thanks! I'll try my best to report back. I have a rest day scheduled so that should give me a little time to check things out and maybe take pics.

We are checking into Wilderness Lodge Villas a week from today! I'm hoping the construction isn't too intrusive... I'm sure Disney has done their best to make it as pleasant as possible.

Now this is new. Where did you see a "fireworks" view category?

I logged on to the disney web site and looked at room options for Wilderness Lodge Aug 5-11. Fireworks view--bunk bed is a listed category option. Its not available, but it's a newly listed category, as far as I know.
