Where did you move to and was it a similar price?

We moved to the Grand Floridian and it is about $800 more for 2 adults (cheapest room)...and we have a pin code for 30% off. I moved as soon as we heard the rumors though. I have no idea how bad it will really be but we don't want to risk it. I think the Contemporary has rooms in their version of the outer building that are cheaper. We've considered POR and I know that is cheaper but we have heard bad things about the buses.

We're going to be at VWL October 17-24th, and I'm not changing anything before the trip. If I get there, and if I'm affected, then I'll ask for a switch. But we really have no idea what the state of construction is going to look like, especially early on. I just think it's too early to panic. But I hope others do, because I'd really like to upgrade to a 2 bedroom villa, if possible, and none are showing available right now. ;)

Good thinking LOL.

Unfortunately, the major construction project that would begin this September has been confirmed by the WL CL IPO. :( It seems to me that it would impact WL guests who have a woods view room or a standard view room in the north wing the most.......

Absolutely concur. The work beginning in SEPT is of a totally different nature than the work occurring NOW.

From the plans posted, I think it's possible to use a little common sense, and figure out what has to happen first :). "Phase 2" (if I can call it that), is going to involve the proposed Cabins and buildings to the North and South of the Lodge - in an area that is fairly heavily wooded. This will require ACCESS, and STAGING AREAS (not unlike what just happened at the Poly).

I'm guessing at this - but I believe the North Area will be affected first, as there is an existing Road and Parking lot for staging. Depending on Manpower? The proposed Southern Parking lot will go in - initially acting as an equipment staging area.

The good news? Unlike the Poly, I don't see a logistical need to mess up Timberline Drive, or the main lodge entry-exit paths. In fact, that would be a pretty inefficient way to move heavy equipment - unless someone wanted to dynamite a road through the Lodge :).

Think of a classic "Pinchers" attack - cabin construction proceeding N to S, connecting with an S to N team. And the FIRST thing they need is roads (not great roads, but SOMETHING).

Again - an educated guess. But the implications, if the guess is correct, would be that preferred rooms AFTER SEPTEMBER would be at the FRONT of the Lodge (towards Timberline), or focused toward the MAIN POOL (courtyard). In fact, AFTER SEPT, the Southern Wing of the Main Lodge may be a VERY good choice. In order to do the pool work in the Quiet Pool area efficiently, it's very likely that those new roads toward the beach need to go in FIRST.

Would love opinions from any Civil Engineers on the board.... how would YOU tackle this job, logistically?

We stayed at the WL duriig the main pool construction and we did a lot of exploring, and picture taking, of the work areas. The heavy construction vehicles came in through the back road that is located between WL and Fort Wilderness. Buses use this road to bring guests in from the resorts for Hoop Dee Doo Revue. From the plans that I've seen it looks like there will be two completely separate work areas, the one by the villas and the one by the WL north wing. There are already access roads for the construction equipment for the villas area. That area is empty right now except for lots of woods and wetlands. It doesn't look like the beach or marina will be impacted by the construction in the villas area.

What is interesting about these plans is that the other construction area is on the other side of the resort. There is at least one existing access road for cast members and deliveries that can be used for this work area. This is where cast members park and where the loading dock for the resort is located. That area is also heavily wooded and there is plenty of land there for construction staging and the actual construction. Because the two construction areas are completely separate, maybe they will work on only one side of the resort at a time.

There is another short thread addressing bus issues several posters reporting slow buses over several days and waits of 45+ min.
Has anyone there now finding the same problems??? I am wondering whether I need to consider renting a car for our trip in mid-August.

Okay, so what I am getting as I read here with regard to the construction issues are the following:

1. The areas affected in October should not be the same as what was affected when redoing the pool last year.
2. For CL, the inner courtyard facing the pool is preferred to avoid the construction.
3. The WL IPO is now admitting to the project which means that somebody knows it's going to happen as predicted.

Like I said before, we bailed last year on WL because the pool/hot tub was important to some of the crew and that courtyard view was not appealing at all with a torn up pool. My family really wanted to do WL this year and so far I don't think any other resort has had availability for all of our rooms on CL for our dates. Granted, I haven't checked recently. Guess I ought to see if there are any options at this point.

I live with both road construction and building construction daily right now. Not really keen on having a big mess at WDW which was why we went to AKL last year for the pool rehab. Put me in the debating camp.

We love WL especially for a Christmas time trip. We bailed last year too with the pool construction. Last year, and strangely, now they are only offering AKL Pool Vw as a similarly priced option. Since you have been to both, how does AKL compare in your opinion? Trying to have a back-up plan....

We bailed to AKL last year and I loved it. It's definitely "away" from everything and that was different from WL being right across from MK. But it was a wonderful trip IMO. Part of my crew did not like the food offerings as well because of the African inspiration. I'd recommend it for sure.

Thanks for the AKL info!

Before I get to multi-quoting, just a friendly reminder that I do have a separate thread devoted to the WL DVC Expansion located HERE.
Feel free to post any comments/questions/concerns/complaints/compliments...of a more in depth nature, regarding the expected expansion, on the other thread:)

Transportation question: do ALL of the boats to MK & CR accommodate ECVs (scooters)? Is it possible that a launch will pull up and we will have to wait for the next one? This is a large factor in my mom's resort choices - meaning she is pushing for monorail now. I don't think she grasps the price for such a convenience, though!
I have photos and more info. on this in the TRANSPORTATION chapter of the thread. But, in short, the answer is 'no.' Only the yellow MK boats that are enclosed accommodate scooters/wheelchairs/open strollers. The boat captain can dispatch one for you if it isn't already docked.

Hello there! My phone is just about dead, please forgive me for asking this, I tried to research as much as I could! DH and I are considering switching from CR CL to WL CL for the second part of our split stay 9/16-9/20/15. I'm brand new to this thread and am trying to determine if there is a lot of construction going on in WL (and what kind)? Is it expected to be there the second week of Sept? Just wondering if I was reading correctly before I make the call to switch resorts. TIA!

Currently, there is work being done to a few rooms on the ground floor in the South Wing. WL won't say when this will be done other than "soon." There is also some scaffolding up around the resort for repairs. That's predicted to be up probably through the end of the year. The DVC expansion is unofficially set to begin toward the end of September, at the earliest, and possibly continue until April 2017.

thank you for reply..Do you think we would hear the noise from around the swimming pool and also would the quite pool be open?

If and when the quiet pool is closed, the WL GM will send out a notice to booked guests letting them know in advance of any closure. Your noise question can't be answered since the work hasn't even begun yet and it also depends on which rooms they take out of inventory and what kind of work they're doing. The most disruptive work seems to be jackhammering and we just have no idea when that would occur.

Moment of panic. Called Reservations to add Inner Courtyard and she could not pull up my Res# (I've had a hotel lose my reservation before so this made my heart race). She finally found it w/ name and address and confirmed it was the right number - just weird. Made my room requests and she was so friendly we chatted about construction and progress at Disney and WL. Her attitude was Disney is here to stay and she doubts people want it to look and be exactly the same in another 45years so they have to keep making progress and adding new things. They try to be as efficient as possible but their goal is to keep adding new and exciting things and that takes some work and time. It's not all Pixie Dust and does requires elbow grease.
So the bolded is what they're calling it instead of "increasing profits?!" Glad they "found" your reservation and you're all set:)

That's my plan with our August Poly booking. I've changed resorts several times after checking-in, so I'm not averse to doing it again if I feel the need and, I've already prepared DD for that possibility;). Hope you get your two-bedroom!

Just want to see my ticker :) Cannot WAIT to be back at Disney :moped:Booked SciFi for lunch this morning!

Sci Fi is lots of fun and yummy, just don't get one of these…

Haven't seen the thread, but when we stayed at CR in April, that was our experience with both the DHS and AK bus which now goes to WL after CR then on to a water park from there, before arriving at the park. The wait and ride seemed endless.

We just booked Club Level for Sept 10th to Sept 13th. We are arriving around 9:30pm on the 9th but we are staing at All Star Music that night since we get in so late. We were originally at Club Level at GF but cross country airfare ended up being more than we expected so we save about $350 by staying at WL instead.

We have only been to WL once and that was back in 2006. I have a couple of questions

I have more than 25 food allergies. Does anyone know what mix they use at Roaring Fork for the GF/allergy free waffles? I can't eat Bobs Red Mill so I'm hoping they have Namaste mix. Also, do they have they have the allergy safe Chicken Tenders? I always get those w/fries at least 1x day.

In addition, how are the restaurants with allergies in general? I will probably eat at Roaring Fork at least once a day for lunch and/or dinner. We also have a lunch and breakfast reservation at Whispering Canyon Cafe. How is the allergy service there? For breakfast as long as I can get waffles, bacon, and sausage I'm happy. And for lunch I'll be very happy if I can just get a burger, fries, and some cooked veggies.

We are not going to any parks. We already know we will spend time at the pool and we plan on playing mini golf one day but what are some of the best things to do around the resort?

Cannot wait to go back! 85 days!!!

I apologize for diverting off-topic, but my curiosity is getting the better of me...why are you guys flying cross-country to WDW and not going to any of the parks?

Wish I could help on the food allergy questions! I bet others on here will be informed enough to give you a good answer.

No apology necessary! WDW is only part of our trip. We are seeing my grandparents near Boca for 5 days before we drive to Disney. Also, We've been to Disneyworld 15+ times already. We decided that we want a relaxing trip to Disney because it's been a very bad year medically already (I've had 8 hospital admissions, 20+ ER visits, and 7 surgeries/procedures since January) so we just want to escape the "real world" for a few days and be lazy with no schedule. it would definitely be a little crazy to fly that far just for 3 1/2 days and no parks!!

Are there ceiling fans in the rooms? I like a lot of air movement and I've been reading the AC thread on the main resort board. Any comments on the current thermostats in WL? Do they turn completely off with no movement - like at night. I might have a fan delivered to the room!

The rooms have ceiling fans, so no worries there. The thermostat is one of those older model ones that you dial the temp you want, unless they put new ones in since January. They don't have motion detectors and they don't turn off.

I've ordered gluten free waffles at both Roaring Forks and Whispering Canyon Cafe. They told me the name of the mix that they used but I'm sorry that I don't remember what it was. Disney chefs will come out to talk to you about your allergies and they will be able to prepare allergy safe foods for you. They are great about that. :)

On the food allergy front, there are a bunch of official-looking "reference sheets" here: http://www.glutenfreedairyfreewdw.com/dining-resources/reference-sheets/ which suggest that WL has the Namaste mix and the allergy friendly chicken tenders. They're a little dated, though.

We're checking into the WL tomorrow for the first time (yay!) with our DD who has multiple food allergies (and also can't eat Bob's Red Mill). This is our fourth WDW trip and they've been consistently spectacular about food allergy management, as you know. Will let you know how things go at the Lodge.
